Abuja, June 10, 2021 (NAN) President Muhammadu Buhari says combating corruption in democratic setting is a challenging task to accomplish.

The president disclosed this during an interview with Arise Television which was televised on Thursday.

According to him, the war against corruption hasn’t been easy for him because he turned into a democratically elected President six decades back.

He, however, stressed that his government had succeeded in easing out corrupt public officials without even creating noise about it.

Buhari recalled that much was achieved in the fight against corruption if he was military Head of State in the early 80s” when a lot of folks were sent to prisons before I was booted out”.

The president frowned in the manner and way the local government system was being managed, saying the local government administration was nearly non-existent in the nation.

He cited a scenario where country governors continued to starve the local authorities of capital stating”in a circumstance in which N300 million is allocated to local government and they’re given N100 million isn’t fair”.

He stated he had advised the security agencies to treat bandits and other criminals from the”the language they know”.

“Problem from the south-west; you have folks over there stealing each other’s cattle and burning each other’s villages.

“As I mentioned, we are going to treat them in the language they understand.

“We’ve given the authorities and the army the ability to become callous. You watch it in a couple of weeks’ time there’ll be the difference.”

“Because we advised them when we keep folks away from their plantation, we are going to starve. And the government can’t control the public.

On farmers/herders clashes, the president said the problem had persisted because older cows paths and grazing areas had been violated by growth, including that those who had taken over such conventional arrangements would be dispossessed.

On the fight against insurgency, Buhari dismissed the assertion that the bulk of Boko Haram members were banning.
