President Buhari presides over valedictory cabinet meeting

The final meeting of the Federal Executive Council for the current administration is currently taking place in the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja. President Muhammadu Buhari is serving as the meeting’s presiding officer.

The meeting is being attended by a number of high-ranking government officials, including the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan.

Others include Zainab Ahmed as Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning; Abubalkar Malami as Minister of Justice; and Abubakar Aliyu as Minister of Power.

Pauline Talllen, Hadi Sirika, and Prof. Isa Pantami, who are the Ministers of Aviation, Women’s Affairs, and Communications and Digital Economy, respectively, are also present.

The President of the United States administered the oath of office to seven new federal Commissioners of the Revenue, Mobilisation, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) just prior to the start of the meeting.

Senators Ayogu Eze (from Enugu State), Peter Opara (from Imo State), Hawa Aliyu (from Jigawa State), and Rakiya Haruna (from Kebbi State) were among those who took their oaths of office.

Others are Ismaila Agaka (Kwara State), Kolawole Abimbola (Oyo State) and Ayuba Ngako (Federal Capital Territory).

The President also received a presentation on the Health Sector Reform Committee’s findings and recommendations from Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

In order to devise a strategy for achieving universal health coverage throughout the nation, a committee led by Osinbajo was established and given that responsibility.

The report makes a number of recommendations, one of which is to increase funding for the health sector to more than 10 percent.

The document includes a strategy for the nation’s long-term development that is intended to be carried out by succeeding administrations if it is to be successful.
