Pope Francis’ Burial: World Leaders Flock to Rome

Millions of people, including world leaders, flocked to St. Peter’s Square on Saturday to attend Pope Francis’s Requiem Mass, which served as his final farewell.
Pope Francis passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025, according to reports. He was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on December 17, 1936, in the Flores neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
In addition to some 250 Cardinals, Patriarchs, Archbishops, Bishops, priests, consecrated religious, and laypeople, Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals, presided over the Requiem Mass.

Cardinal Re covered several of the highlights of his extraordinary and demanding twelve years of Petrine Ministry in his homily. These included his closeness to the people, his spontaneous deeds right up until the end, and—above all—his abiding love for the Church.
“We are here in great numbers to pray for Pope Francis, believing that God will accept him into the depths of His love, spiritually united with all of Christianity.” In his lectures and private meetings, Pope Francis would end by asking people to remember to pray for him.

“Now, we beg you to pray for us, Pope Francis. May you bless the Church, bless Rome, and grant us the blessing of the entire world from heaven, just as you did last Sunday from this Basilica’s balcony in a final embrace with all of God’s people as well as with all of humanity—that humanity that sincerely seeks the truth and holds high the torch of hope,” Cardina Re said.
