The petitions filed against two members of the People’s Democratic Party of the House of Representatives were denied by the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Kaduna State.

The applications filed against David Gurara, who represents the Kachia/Kagarko Federal Constituency, and Bashir Shadow, a member who represents the Kauru Federal Constituency, were both dismissed by the tribunal on Saturday.

In the House of Representatives election held on February 25, 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission returned the two federal representatives to office.

The candidates for the All Progressives Congress, Gabriel Zock and Mukhtar Zakari, brought the two PDP members before the tribunal.

Zock asked the tribunal to overturn INEC’s proclamation and order new elections in his appeal, alleging that voting had not taken place in 43 polling places.

Additionally, Zakari had filed a case against Shadow, claiming that he had submitted a forgery of a school transcript.

Zock’s petition was heard by the tribunal’s chairman, Justice H.H. Kereng, who ruled that the petitioner had not offered sufficient evidence to support his claims.

Justice Maiwada Abubakar also dismissed Zakari’s petition during her ruling on it because it lacked merit.
