Power Minister Adelabu abandons Accord Party, joins APC

On December 15, Power Minister Bayo Adelabu declared that he would leave the Accord Party and rejoin the All Progressives Congress, which is currently in power.
The official announcement would take place at a ceremony in the party secretariat in Oke-Ado, according to a letter written by Mr. Adelabu on December 6 and addressed to the state chairman and APC leaders in Oyo State.

I am writing to inform the All Progressive Party Congress (APC) state executive and leaders in Oyo State that I want to formally announce my return to our wonderful party on December 15, 2023, at a ceremony that will take place at the party office in Oke-Ado. The letter said, in part, “I want the state executive to spearhead this celebration, and I want all local government party chairmen and leaders to be present.

The minister broke away from the ruling party to run on the platform of the Accord Party ahead of the 2023 Oyo governorship election.

Speaking on the crisis that rocked the APC during the state congress, Mr. Adelabu recalled leaving the party and claimed that upon his return, he had consulted its leaders.

“You will remember that at the height of the turmoil that rocked the party due to the way the state congress and the primary elections were conducted, I quit the party with my devoted and committed followers.

“Nevertheless, I have made the decision to rejoin the party after consulting with our national leaders and executive. I made a polite visit to the national chairman of the party as my first proof of this, and we worked out the requirements for my return to the party,” the minister stated.
In order to carry out President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Mr. Adelabu promised to collaborate with the state administration and party leaders.
