It will be “extremely weird,” according to Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, for him to attend Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s inauguration.
In addition, Obi, who spoke via his assistant Tai Obasi, denied organising a protest before the incoming President’s inauguration today.
Following rumours that the former governor of Anambra State and his Obidient movement would protest near Eagle Square in opposition to the Federal Government’s insistence on holding the President-elect’s inauguration, the rebuttal was made.
I’m not sure where that report is coming from, Obasi said. We have no information about it or the individuals responsible for the planned protest. But I can categorically state that nothing has been brought to my principal’s attention.
“He is an Obi, and his obeisance is Obeidient. I agree that sometimes they may act independently despite your instructions to the contrary. These men are furious. The way that everything was used against Obi, who had given them so much hope, infuriated them. They kept pace with him and waited for him at every turn.
In response to claims that political parties and their presidential candidates received individual invitations, Obi’s aide said, “My principal is a very humble and reasonable man who is always looking for peace and unity of the country at all costs. I don’t think my principal will be attending Tinubu’s inauguration.” But for him to attend a ceremony for a man whose election victory he is contesting in court will be extremely strange.
“My principal can’t behave in such an odd and unreasonable manner. I am unable to confirm whether he is invited to the swearing-in ceremony. However, I’m here to tell you that you can’t see him there.
