Mr Umo Eno of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the winner of the Akwa Ibom State governorship election held on March 18 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The results were announced on Sunday by Prof. Emmanuel Adigio, INEC’s Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of Nigerian Maritime University, Delta.
He claimed Eno defeated Sen. Bassey Akpan of the Young Progressive Party in 29 of the state’s 31 local government areas (YPP).
He stated that the PDP candidate received 354,348 votes, outnumbering his closest competitor, the Young Progressive Party (YPP), which received 136,262 votes.
He added that the All Progressives Congress (APC) received 129,602 votes, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) received 12,509 votes, and the Labour Party (LP) received 4,746 votes.
