Nasiru Idris of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was officially declared the new governor of Kebbi State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), INEC pronounced the state’s governorship election held on March 18 to be inconclusive.
On Saturday, a second round of voting took place at 142 polling places spread over 20 of the state’s 21 Local Government Areas.
Yusuf Sa’idu of Usmanu Danfodio University in Sokoto, the returning officer, announced the final results at the INEC headquarters in Birnin Kebbi.

He stated that Mr. Idris received 409,225 votes, defeating Aminu Bande of the PDP, who received 360,940 votes, and Udu Idris of the People’s Redemption Party, who received 3,103 votes.
The returning officer stated that there were 800,560 votes cast in total, 781,478 of which were legal, and 19,082 were invalid.
Nasiru Idris of the APC, having satisfied the conditions of the law and garnered the most votes, is hereby returned elected as Governor of Kebbi, I, Prof. Yusuf Sa’idu, the Returning Officer of the governorship election held on April 15, 2023, declared.
