The fish vendors, according to reports, are from Ibadan’s main markets.
While protesting, the fish vendors stated that they had collected old receipts from their clients on Tuesday.

The fish vendors claimed that when they arrived at Bodija Market on Wednesday, the managers of the cold rooms refused to accept their old notes.
When interviewed by journalists, the fish vendors bemoaned the fact that they would lose money if they did not have a place to exchange money.

A fish vendor told our correspondent, Mrs. Olayemi Adebayo, that they were refused when they arrived at the market on Wednesday morning with the old notes.

She suggested that the Nigerian Central Bank (CBN) postpone the deadline for exchanging the old notes for the new ones.
We came here to protest, Adebayo said. This morning when we went to the Bodija Market to buy fish, they did not demand any old notes from us. We are here this morning for that reason.

“We request a date extension from the government. The change is having an impact on our sales. We have old notes that we have gathered. We each have about N30,000 in the old notes.

They were at a crossroads, according to Mrs. Fatimat Adejumo, a different fish vendor.

“On Tuesday, we gathered old notes from our clients. They are rejecting the notes when they arrive in the chilly room this morning.

“We have no jobs, no place to live, and no idea what to do. The deadline must be extended by the federal government.
