Guber polls: ECWA denies endorsing Kaduna Deputy Governor

Prior to Saturday’s governorship and state House of Assembly elections, leaders of the evangelical church winning all (ECWA) denied endorsing Her Excellency, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarebe, the Kaduna state deputy governor.

Rev. Dr. Yunana Tanimu, the chairman of ECWA, and Rev. Nehemiah Bature, the secretary, released a statement in which they stated that “the attention of Pastors and leaders of the 21 District Church Councils (DCCs) in Kaduna State has been drawn to a misleading news item on the social media claiming that ECWA endorsed the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Her Excellency, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Bal

The news item was characterized as being strange, false, and misleading in the statement.

The statement claims that ECWA, a non-partisan organization, has taken a neutral stance in previous and upcoming elections.

However, the statement said, “Embedded in ECWA’s neutrality is our total objection to any same faith ticket – whether Christian-Christian or Muslim-Muslim ticket – in line with the same objection that the national headquarters of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed.

It reaffirmed its position that ECWA has not given the impostors authority to speak on its behalf.
