Candidates who are unable to concede defeat in previous general elections do not deserve the joy of victory when they eventually win in subsequent polls, according to President Bola Tinubu’s statement.
The President, who made the declaration during his Democracy Day Nationwide Broadcast, admitted that the presidential election in 2023 was extremely contentious, and he attributed the outcome to the progress that the country has made toward becoming a democratic nation.

“The beauty of democracy is that those who win the election today can lose tomorrow,” said Bola Tinubu. “And those who lose the election today will have the opportunity to compete and win in the next round.”
He pointed out that those who are currently “taking full advantage of the constitutional provisions to seek redress in court and that is one of the reasons why democracy is still the best form of government invented by man” is one of the reasons why democracy is still the best form of government.

The President characterized the disappointment voiced by politicians who were not favoured by the outcome of the elections that took place in February and March as being natural and understandable.
