Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has been warned by the Buhari Media Organization, or BMO, to be mindful of his place in history and refrain from saying things that might jeopardize national security.

In response to remarks made by the former president after the presidential and national assembly elections on February 25, the group issued the warning. In a press statement, Obasanjo claimed that there were numerous irregularities in the presidential election and charged some INEC officials with taking “blood money” to rig the results.
In a press release that was signed by its secretary Cassidy Madueke and chairman Niyi Akinsiju. The former president was “notorious, during his time in office, for organizing the worst elections in Nigeria’s history,” according to BMO, so he is not in a position to advise the federal government on how to conduct elections.

“He is not in a good position to advise the Buhari administration on how to conduct elections,” the author said. “It was also during his time in office that imposition of candidates on political parties and ultimately into public office became the norm rather than the exception.”

The group also cited the late President Umaru Musa Yar’dua’s public admission that the flawed election that put him in office and was overseen by Obasanjo was flawed.
“This in itself is a clear indictment of Obasanjo who is not known to cherish democratic principles.
“We want to remind the former President that President Muhammadu Buhari remains committed to bequeathing a credible election to the country, and this has been applauded both within and outside Nigeria.

“We therefore advise the former president to tread softly on the issue of 2023 presidential elections as any aggrieved party has a window of opportunity to challenge the outcome in a court of competent jurisdiction and the election petition tribunal,” the group added.
