Daniel Bwala, a spokesman for the Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign council, asserted that Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, was responsible for forcing Peter Obi to defect from the PDP and join the Labour Party (LP).
He claimed that Wike’s tricks and antics were what compelled Obi to leave the party.
For the LP, where he chose that party’s presidential ticket for the 2023 elections, Obi had left the PDP just before its presidential primary.
Before the party’s presidential primary last year, Bwala stated during an Arise TV program on Wednesday that it was generally accepted that the presidency should be zoned to the South-East in the interest of equity.
Additionally, he asserted that Atiku Abubkar, who eventually declared himself a candidate for president, had argued that the two regions that had not yet produced a leader should be the South East or the North East.

According to Bwala, in an effort to secure the nomination, Wike plotted the ouster of PDP National Chairman Uche Secondus and pushed the committee designated for the task to hold a nationwide contest rather than zoning the presidency.
He claimed that is when Obi left the party because he was worried he wouldn’t win the nomination for president if the race was made open.
Bwala berated Governor Wike, whom he referred to as “Michael Jackson” for thinking too highly of himself, and argued that despite opposition from Wike, the party’s presidential candidate would get the highest number of votes in Rivers State.
Furthermore, Wike does not have the sway in the state that he believes he does, according to Bwala, who noted that the PDP enjoyed strong support from the populace.
He asserted that the G5 governors, whom he also referred to as the “Jackson five,” had acknowledged their errors and were now silent, noting that only Wike was still discussing the group.

He added that Wike owes the PDP credit for everything he is and has accomplished, but expressed regret that the governor was waning in support within his own state and was on the verge of joining the “dustbin of former governors.”
