Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, and Senator Ajibola Basiru, the ninth Senate’s spokesperson, were formally confirmed on Thursday to succeed the outgoing national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and the party’s former national secretary, Iyiola Omisore.
The choice was made on Thursday, just one hour after President Bola Tinubu arrived at the Transcorp Hilton, where the NEC meeting was being held.

At at 11.35 am, the President arrived at the hotel’s Congress Hall flanked by stern-looking security guards who were possibly members of the Department of State Services.
Following the announcement of their appointments, fans of Ganduje and Basiru celebrated loudly, almost temporarily disrupting the programme.
Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi State, Chief Bisi Akande, a former governor of Osun State and the first party chairman, Senator Abubakar Kyari, the acting national chairman of the party, a former governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and Senator Ajibola Basiru, the spokeswoman for the ninth Senate, were among the dignitaries who arrived early for the NEC meeting.
