Commissioner of Police, in a statement made available to newsmen earlier today by Yemisi Opalola, the command’s Public Relations Officer in Osogbo, stated that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies in the state, will ensure that all aspirants and eligible electorates/delegates can exercise their franchise on an equal footing.
While implying that the Command had taken necessary security measures to avoid a possible breakdown of law and order, Olokode stated that security agencies will not hesitate to deal harshly with anyone or group of people who attempt to cause trouble or disrupt the election’s smooth running.
“As the PDP governorship primary election scheduled for today, Tuesday, March 8th, 2022, gains momentum, the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Police Command, CP Olawale Olokode, wishes to assure the general public, especially the good people of Osun State, of adequate security before, during, and after the PDP governorship primary election,” he said, urging politicians to play the game as stipulated by the Electoral Act, 2010.
“The State’s Police and other security agencies will provide a level playing field for all aspirants and eligible electorates/delegates to exercise their franchise, while we will not hesitate to deal decisively and within the bounds of the law with anyone, group of persons, who might try to foment trouble or disrupt the election’s smooth conduct.”
Olokode also addressed parents and guardians, urging them to warn their children and wards about staying out of trouble during the election period and beyond.
According to him, thuggery, gangsterism, and hooliganism will not be tolerated by the command.
“They must not allow themselves to be used by any vicious politician to create a crisis in the State,” he warned, adding that “the command will not tolerate any kind of thuggery, gangsterism, or hooliganism.”
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has stated that a robust security arrangement is in place in the State ahead of the PDP gubernatorial congress to ensure the safety of lives and property.
