Police invite Ogun ex-deputy Speaker for barricading Assembly gates

Dare Kadiri, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, was invited by the Ogun State Police Command on Tuesday for using his car to blockade the gates to the Assembly complex.

The Governor’s Office, which houses the legislative chambers, was stormed by Kadiri, who had been impeached and suspended from the Assembly, and he blocked the gates.

The embattled lawmaker, according to an eyewitness, sat in his car after blocking the gates with it and wouldn’t allow anyone into the chambers.

A week after the House passed a petition calling for Kadiri’s dismissal, the Assembly member for Ijebu North Constituency 2 was impeached.

According to reports, Kadiri blocked the gates early on Tuesday, which required the arrival of police officers.

The Assembly workers had to slog through a different entrance into the complex, it was learned, due to the circumstances.

Witnesses claimed that Bolanle Muritala, the deputy commissioner of police, had to intervene in order to persuade Kadiri to leave the Assembly entrance.

Despite this, the police invited the troubled lawmaker to discuss the disturbance.

SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state’s police public relations officer, confirmed the lawmaker’s invitation when contacted.

“The man is here with us,” Oyeyemi declared. He’s been invited, after all. Investigative work is being done. The matter is being looked into. His declaration has been made.

“We have requested a statement from the other parties, and we are investigating. They’re coming any second now, we’re ready for them.

When asked if the lawmaker would be released, Oyeyemi responded, “It is a bailable offence.”
