The Nigeria Police Force has revealed its updated strategy for combating abduction in Nigeria.
According to NPF, this action will strengthen internal security.
Recent victories, including as rescue operations that neutralized kidnappers, recovered weapons, and ensured the safe release of victims, were emphasized by the Force.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, released a statement on Thursday headlined “Kidnapping: Police Re-Strategise to Curb Kidnapping, 3 Kidnappers Neutralised, Victims Rescued in Dangerous Operations,” in which the police reaffirmed their dedication to guaranteeing the safety of every Nigerian.
Success for Benue
According to the statement, on December 31, 2024, officers from Benue State’s Vandiekya Police Divisional Headquarters reacted to a distress call about Tor Gajir’s kidnapping in Kwande Local Government Area.
He claimed that after questioning a suspect named Desmond Ahar, they were able to locate the kidnappers’ hideout in Adikpo.
The operatives were involved in a heavy gunfight when they arrived.
According to the statement, “three of the kidnappers were neutralized in the ensuing confrontation while others fled with bullet wounds.”
Officers found two AK-47 rifles, six loaded magazines, and multiple rounds of live ammo, and the victim was taken away unharmed and given medical attention.
Operations at Nasarawa and Bayelsa
On December 28, 2024, police officers in Nasarawa State found an abandoned Sienna car on the Keffi-Kaduna Highway during another operation.
They found and freed two hostages who were unharmed after following leads. The fugitive kidnappers are still being sought.
Usman Mohammed was stopped by Bayelsa State Command agents on his way to Rivers State on January 7, 2025. An array of firearms, including an AK-47 rifle, a Type 09 AR, magazines, and 120 rounds of ammo, was found when his car was searched.
Investigations are ongoing after the suspect was taken into custody.

Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, praised the officers’ collaboration and gallantry during these operations.

The IGP urged police officers to maintain their pace in maintaining internal security, saying, “The incidents highlight the dedication of our police officers to keeping our communities safe.”
In order to improve public safety, he also urged people to cooperate with law enforcement and maintain their vigilance.
“By working together, we can make Nigeria safer,” Egbetokun continued.
