Arome Danjuma, the primary suspect who is accused of ambushing a girl and stripping her naked for a video that went viral, has been taken into custody by the Kogi State Police Command.
It was reported that Danjuma and his friend, who is still at large, carried out the heinous act in the village of Achigili, which is located close to Abocho and is located within the Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
SP William Aya, who is in charge of the police department’s public relations, stated that the incident, which received widespread criticism from the general public, will result in the perpetrator being subjected to the full force of the law.
Aya stated on Saturday, while speaking to journalists at the command headquarters in Lokoja, that the command was still conducting investigations in order to apprehend the other suspect who is currently at large.
The spokesperson for the police department stated that the suspect will be charged in court very soon.
The victim, who identified herself as Alami, stated that one of the suspects attempted to propose marriage to her, but she turned him down.
She began to tell her side of the story as follows: “One of the guys proposed marriage to me, but I turned him down.” On the previous Sunday evening, around the time I was leaving work to head home, he attacked me, took me to his house against my will, and began beating me there.
“Another person was waiting for me inside his house with a knife and an axe, and they threatened to kill me if I didn’t take off my clothes immediately.
“I had no choice but to obey them because I had no other option.” If it hadn’t been for you, they would have killed me right there in the room. They started filming my nakedness as soon as I took off my clothes, and they later uploaded the footage to the internet. They only want to make my life miserable.
Arome Danjuma, the primary suspect, admitted to having committed the crime while speaking during an interview. He emphasized that he conspired with his friend to commit the atrocity.
In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Women’s Affairs, who was represented by the Director of Research Planning and Statistics in the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Mr. Oseni Isaac, who is also the Secretary of the Kogi State GBV Technical Workgroup, referred to the incident as “one of the most barbaric in recent times.” Mr. Oseni Isaac is also the Secretary of the Kogi State GBV Technical Workgroup.
He used the word “animalistic” to describe the behavior, and he said that it would never be tolerated in Kogi State.
Isaac pointed out that the ministry is working to combat any and all instances of gender-based violence in the state, and he issued a stern warning to anyone who plans to engage in such behavior in Kogi State, stating that they should not expect business as usual going forward.
The Executive Director of the Challenged Parenthood Initiative (CPI), Eunice Abimbola Agbogun, also had a reaction to the incident, and she described it as barbaric.
“This is a heinous act of terrorism against the human race. In our opinion, it is imperative that this matter be investigated thoroughly and that justice be served.
“I am relieved that the police were able to make an intervention. We are relieved that the perpetrator has been apprehended, and we take comfort in the fact that the police have assured us that justice will be served. We will continue to investigate this matter because it serves as a stern warning to other people who commit acts of domestic violence that “it will no longer be business as usual.”
