In connection with the death of Federal University of Oye Ekiti student Modupe Deborah, the Ekiti State Police Command announced on Thursday that it has detained 10 individuals.
DSP Abutu Sunday, the command’s public relations officer, announced the change via the command’s X (previously Twitter) profile.
Sunday stated that on September 5, 2023, the school’s late 200-level nursing student was reported missing while on campus.
The PRO reported that Deborah’s body was located in a small grave around 30 meters behind the nursing lecture hall.
“This is to inform the public that the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Ogundare Dare, has ordered a thorough investigation into the cause of the death of one Atanda Modupe Deborah, a 200-level nursing student of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), who was declared missing within the school grounds on September 5, 2023, but found dead in a shallow grave about 30 meters behind the nursing Lecture Hall,” Sunday said.
He assured them that the police would make sure the criminals would face the full force of the law.
The commissioner urges everyone to remain calm while pledging that the command will take all necessary steps to identify the offender(s) and see to it that they are brought to face the full force of the law.

Ten suspects are presently being held while being investigated, and the deceased’s body has been placed in the morgue for an autopsy.
Earlier, the school administration issued a statement with Mufutau Ibrahim’s signature, the Registrar, informing the public of the student’s passing.
Ibrahim continued, “It will be remembered that earlier today, the Management made public the upsetting development of the deceased’s disappearance and assured that an inquiry was proceeding to determine the whereabouts of the unfortunate youngsters.
However, recent information that has reached the university’s security unit has shown that the aforementioned student is deceased.
While expressing sympathy to the bereaved family and the university community as a whole, in particular to our beloved students, the university management reaffirmed that an investigation is still ongoing and that it is being conducted in cooperation with national security agencies in order to identify the cause of the tragic event and bring the offenders to justice.
