Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has reassured residents of the state of their continued safety.

He stated that the command in synergy with other security agencies are poised to vehemently resist any attempt capable of truncating the existing peace in the state.

Danjuma gave the assurance while speaking with journalists on Sunday and reacting to an order declared by the self-acclaimed Biafra leader, Simon Ekpa, for a five-day sit-at-home across the South East states, beginning from July 29, to August 2.

The commissioner insisted that the command under his watch would continue to remain committed to ensuring that adequate security of lives and properties of the citizens and residents alike in the state is guaranteed.

He disclosed that the command in synergy with security agencies has deployed water-tight security across the state to forestall any break down of law and order in the state and to encourage the residents to go about their lawful businesses without any fear of harm or molestation within the period and beyond.

Also, responding to the planned nationwide protest, Danjuma stated that although, citizens have the right to protest, they must comply with security rules of being peaceful or without the use of violence.

He also advised parents and other stakeholders especially the community leaders in the state to help educate their children, wards and subjects about the consequences of engaging in violent demonstrations.

Danjuma insisted that security and overall development of the state and nation is a collective responsibility of every citizen.

He said, “Hoodlums who intend to exploit the protest for their criminal gains or agendas to stay off Imo state, adding that harming innocent
citizens, destruction or looting of public and private property and businesses would never be condoned and anyone caught in such act would be severely dealt with according to the law.”
