NDLEA and NSCDC officers are arrested by the police in Imo for alleged extortion
For allegedly harassing and extorting residents of the state, the Imo State Police Command has detained three officers from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and two from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
This was revealed to reporters on Tuesday in Owerri by the command’s spokesman, ASP Henry Okoye.
A 37-year-old police inspector was detained for the same offense along with the others.
He claimed that the accused had a history of utilizing point-of-sale devices to extort innocent bystanders, particularly the young people of Owerri.
These are security agents operating in secret in Imo under the guise of Operation Search and Flush, harassing and extorting the populace, especially the youth, for sums of money totaling thousands of naira.
He continued, “They use POS, seize, and search the victims’ phones, causing them immense pain.
Okoye gave the public the assurance that steps will be taken quickly to wrap up the investigation and bring the suspects to justice.
