The Rivers Police Command says it is investigating certain officers accused of kidnapping and extorting an N620,000 resident at gunpoint.
SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the command’s Spokesperson, said in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday that the officers would face prosecution if found guilty.
Daniel, the victim, was allegedly taken by suspected policemen at 9 p.m. while returning to his home in Port Harcourt.
According to reports, the police officers assaulted and violently brought the victim to a secluded town outside the city before withdrawing N620,000 from his bank account with the assistance of an accomplice POS vendor.
Mr Iringe-Koko stated that the Rivers Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Emeka, was concerned by the reports and had ordered a complete investigation to catch the corrupt cops.

“Our attention has been drawn to an alleged extortion of N620,000 by some men dressed as police officers on Sani Abacha Road in Port Harcourt.”
“Nwonyi Emeka takes misconduct seriously and is concerned about the reported incident; therefore, an investigation is underway to prosecute the personnel if found guilty,” she stated.
According to the police spokeswoman, the commissioner of police has stated that he will never shield any staff found to be guilty of any criminal offence in the state.
“As a result, this matter will not be swept under the rug, as any police officers involved in the crime will be prosecuted accordingly.”
“The affected person should come to the command headquarters at Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, to report the matter so that we can find the culprits,” Mr Iringe-Koko said.
