Simon Bako Lalong, the Plateau State Governor, has sworn in 11 Permanent Secretaries and Hon. Justice Blessing Lyop Dalyop, the Substantive President of the Customary Court of Appeal in Jos.

Governor Lalong congratulated them on their appointments, saying that the government’s machinery requires not only talented, but also honest and dedicated employees who will help the government fulfill its goals and programs. He cautioned federal officials not to politicize the civil service, saying that anyone caught obstructing government activity for political motives would be fired.

“Let me take this occasion to remind public servants of the importance of remaining loyal to the government and abstaining from any actions that may jeopardize the smooth operation of the state’s business.” All civil officials have distinct responsibilities, privileges, and expectations under the civil service rules. Because we are in a political period, you should make every effort to follow the rules of the service and avoid being used by politicians to sabotage government operations. “Those who break the rules will not be spared,” he stated.

Excellent management
Governor Lalong expects the incoming Permanent Secretaries to lead with quality, capacity, discipline, fairness, and honesty, according to Governor Lalong. Because they are assuming these sensitive roles at a difficult time, he said, they will be expected to demonstrate innovation, creativity, and resource management in the State’s governance architecture.

He went on to say, “The time for laxity, bureaucratic bottlenecks, and sabotage is over.”

Compatibility with ICT
He commended the Head of Civil Service for ensuring the successful conduct of the ICT-based professional aptitude examination for the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries in collaboration with the Plateau State Information Communication Technology Development Agency, and directed the Head of Service to work towards ensuring that all civil servants are fully trained in the use of ICT tools for all Government business.

Lalong commended the President of the Customary Court of Appeal and urged her to build on the legacies of her predecessors who worked tirelessly to ensure that citizens were treated fairly. He expects her to embrace this opportunity to take the Plateau State Customary Court to the next level by identifying and addressing obstacles that obstruct the administration of justice.
