Plateau Assembly declares ex-speaker’s seat vacant due to defection

During Tuesday’s plenary session, the Plateau State House of Assembly declared Hon. Ayuba Abok’s seat in the Jos East constituency vacant.

Abok is the house’s immediate previous speaker.

Rt. Hon. Yakubu Sanda, the current Speaker of the House, who declared Abok’s seat empty, said the decision was based on a letter from the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) requesting that the seat be declared vacant.

Abok left the APC last week and joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“In accordance with Section 109(1) of the legislation, I thus proclaim Rt. Hon. Abok’s seat vacant,” Hon.
