Petition by the People’s Democratic Party the Kaduna Electoral Commission is in charge of the collation center

The PDP has accused the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission of relocating collation and distribution centers in the Igabi local government area ahead of Saturday’s election.

During a courtesy visit to KADSIECOM headquarters in Kaduna on Friday, Mohammed Yaro, chairman of the PDP Stakeholders Forum in Igabi, made the accusation.

In a statement signed on Friday, KADSIECOM chair Saratu Dikko-Audu said that elections for the chairmanship and counsellorship positions would be held on Saturday (today) in the Chikun and Kajuru local government areas.

Others, such as Kachia and Soba local government areas, were put on hold due to pending court cases, while Zangon Kataf and Birnin Gwari would not hold due to security concerns.

Mr Yaro explained that the forum was at the commission to formally submit a letter of complaint to the KADSIECOM boss, urging him to carry out his duties in accordance with the law.

“The crux of the issue is the undue relocation of electoral ward collation and distribution centers in Igabi local government. The same thing happened in the recent election, with inconclusive results in two of our wards, Sabon Birni and Gwaraji,” Mr Yaro said. “With the election approaching tomorrow (today), we discovered that distribution centers had been relocated to new locations.”

The PDP does not believe the action is “in accordance with the law governing this election and the State guidelines,” according to him.

He urged KADSIECOM to be free of outside interference.

Mr Yaro stated, “We feel we can only participate in this election if it is fair, transparent, and credible.”

Ms Dikko-Audu responded by praising the delegation and promising that the issues raised would be addressed.

She did, however, advise the PDP to take their complaint to the police commissioner because the decisions concerned people’s lives and prosperity.
