Peter Obi urges Super Eagles to gear up for Libya rematch

The Super Eagles should be ready for a rematch against Libya, according to former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, in light of the team’s terrifying experience in a Libyan airport last Sunday.

Before facing Libya’s Mediterranean Knights in an AFCON qualification for 2025, Nigerian players and officials were left stranded for hours without access to food or the internet.

Obi shared his condolences for the team’s hardship and praised their patriotism and forbearance in the face of unjust punishment in a message posted on his X Twitter.

Instead of letting the experience break them down, he urged the players to get back up and focus on their goal of winning the game and making it to the Morocco 2025 AFCON.

Like every other patriotic Nigerian, I really sympathize with our dear Super Eagles over their hardship in Libya while traveling to play the Morocco 2025 AFCON Qualifier return leg match. The players’ decision not to play the match led to the match being later delisted by CAF.

Their alternative decision to head back home is justified by the extremely unfortunate mistreatment and abandonment they, along with their authorities, experienced at a remote airport in Libya.

I would want to take this opportunity to thank the players for their patience, forbearance, and patriotism in the face of the harsh treatment they received from our Libyan brothers as we wait for the results of an investigation that CAF requested.

I beg them not to let this depressing event sap their enthusiasm or crush their souls.

However, it should also reinvigorate their will to strive to win the title, to qualify for the Morocco 2025 AFCON, and to win the match whenever it occurs.

Every win by the Super Eagles will not only help to bring Nigerians together but also offer them something to celebrate during times like now, when the country’s deplorable condition of things leaves them disheartened.

We should all be inspired to strive hard to instill greater respect and dignity in our country after the tragic experience of our national team in Libya.

Nigeria will undoubtedly rise again if the correct leaders are in place. A new Nigeria is, in fact, feasible.
