Peter Obi, the candidate for the Labour Party in the presidential election that will take place in February 2023, has provided his response to the call that took place between Antony Blinken, the Secretary of State of the United States, and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the President-elect of Nigeria.
Recall that on Wednesday, Blinken placed a phone call to Tinubu in order to reaffirm his ongoing commitment to further bolstering the US-Nigeria relationship with the incoming administration.
In response, Obi stated that the United States’ actions regarding Nigeria’s affairs ought to be founded on mutual respect, shared ideals, aspirations, and interests, all of which ought to transcend the considerations of any individual.

Before tacitly conferring legitimacy on any of the contending parties, the United States are supposed to wait for the full resolution of the ongoing judicial processes, as stated by the former governor of Anambra State, according to the information provided by the former governor.
“There is still a lack of clarity on the basis of the call that U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken made to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), on May 16, 2023. The rule of law is both the most fundamental democratic principle and one of its central values.
“These ideals, which are so dear to the people of the United States, serve as the cornerstone of Nigeria’s democratic system. In order to avoid the possibility of interfering in Nigeria’s internal affairs, the relationship between the United States and Nigeria should be governed by the fundamental principles of democracy.
“Above all else, Nigerians anticipate that the United States’ reactions to our affairs will be predicated on mutual respect, shared ideals, aspirations, and interests, all of which ought to supersede the considerations of any individual.
In this context, the deliberate manipulation and falsification of the will of Nigerians as it was freely expressed during the elections held on February 25 cannot be ignored by genuine friends and partners of Nigeria.
Because of this, it is of the utmost importance that the United States, which is seen as a shining example of democracy, does not react to the political developments in Nigeria in a way that even hints at taking sides in the conflict.
“An ongoing political and judicial process is taking place in Nigeria in relation to the country’s most recent presidential election. Before tacitly conferring legitimacy on any of the contending parties, we anticipate that the United States will wait until the complete resolution of the ongoing judicial processes to do so.

The relevant courts of law are the only ones who can make a definitive decision regarding who the actual winner of the election was. In addition to this, the issues that are currently being debated in the courts imply serious violations of both the Nigerian Electoral Law and the Nigerian Constitution, as he stated in a tweet.
