The necessity of a corrupt-free political system in Nigeria has been emphasized by Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential contender for 2023.
Obi said this as he paid his condolences at the home of Prof. Ben Nwabueze, the late pioneer secretary general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and a constitutional lawyer, in Ajao Estate, Lagos State.
Obi bemoaned the pervasiveness of political corruption in Nigeria during a passionate speech and pushed for the restoration of a parliamentary form of government.
He characterized the late well-known attorney as a man of integrity and dedication to the country, and as a steadfast supporter of a greater Nigeria.
True change in Nigeria, according to the former governor of Anambra State, can only be accomplished by tearing down the framework of criminal enterprises that politicians have built.
He also expressed disapproval of the N160 million cars that each federal member had purchased, highlighting the fact that such costs were unreasonable at a time when a great number of people were suffering.
Legislative projects are illegal, he declared. It gave in to stuff like that because the executive has a criminal mind. Our culture has been deeply embedded with rudeness and inappropriate behavior. The parliamentary form of governance is preferable because it gives the people we elect the ability to directly solve our issues.

Obi went on to voice his dissatisfaction with the existing presidential system, saying that presidents frequently abdicate responsibility by referring questions to their advisers.
“People who already have cars are being given cars worth N160 million,” he said, calling for the destruction of the current criminal society. Humility is required because others are suffering. The public must have access to the elected officials.
Thinking back on his association with the late Professor Nwabueze, Obi commended his unwavering support in pushing for a constitutional amendment and addressing social problems.
Regarding this, Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo honored Professor Nwabueze, recognizing his important contributions to constitutional law and his steadfast dedication to justice and equity.
He conveyed the grief of the government and people for the passing of a well-known individual whose legacy would motivate coming generations.
