Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has denounced the purported giving of high-end cars to state coordinators of a political mobilization organization purportedly connected to the Federal Government.

Obi called the development a “profound insensitivity” to the suffering of Nigerians in a statement sent on Thursday on his 𝕏 feed.

In response to accusations that state coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a political platform purportedly being mobilized ahead of the 2027 elections, received Toyota Land Cruiser jeeps, Hilux trucks, and Hummer buses as gifts from President Bola Tinubu, Obi claimed the action demonstrated misguided priorities.

“The decision of any government to allocate limited public resources for the distribution of luxury vehicles is not only insensitive but also represents a serious moral failure at a time when Nigerians are struggling with hunger, unemployment, and insecurity,” Obi said.

While millions struggle with hardship, Obi denounced the purported use of public funds for political theater.

“Those in leadership positions continue to flaunt their wealth by driving brand-new Land Cruisers, Hiluxes, and Hummers, while ordinary Nigerians are struggling with poverty and hopelessness,” he stated.

He claims that such behavior equates to “treating the suffering of the public as mere background for political theatrics.”

“Government is not this.” He continued, “It shows a deep lack of empathy and a betrayal of public confidence masquerading as a political tactic.

“Nigerians Need Food, Jobs, Security, Not Convoys” emphasized that genuine leadership should concentrate on resolving the nation’s urgent problems, which range from unemployment and hunger to inadequate healthcare and insecurity.

“Leadership should prioritize feeding the hungry, ensuring that the sick have access to healthcare, giving millions of unemployed youth hope again, and safeguarding our communities, particularly during these trying times. He stated, “It shouldn’t be about canvassing for votes or showing off expensive cars.

Noting that the reported vehicle giveaway is a “tragic misplacement of priorities,” the former governor of Anambra State also bemoaned the difficulties faced by Nigerian families, including increased insecurity, maternal health issues, and school tuition.
