Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the most recent general elections, has urged young people in Nigeria not to be deterred by the nation’s current state of affairs.
On Saturday, to commemorate World Youth Day, Obi posted on his official Twitter account and urged young Nigerians to be steadfast, upbeat, and hopeful about a better nation.
“The current political turbulence and economic difficulties in our country should not deter our youth, but rather inspire them to remain dedicated and resolute in the struggle for a new and better Nigeria,” Obi tweeted.
We won’t be able to create the New Nigeria of our aspirations unless we continue to be dedicated to the fight for a better country. On our way to a new country, we must be resilient and continue in the face of any challenge.
He insisted that if policymakers prioritize youth development, many of the issues the nation is currently facing might be resolved.
If we create a better economy where adolescents are actively employed, “the high level of insecurity and the social vices associated with youths, like drug and other substance abuse,” will be reduced.
With a 33.3% unemployment rate, Nigeria tops the list of nations with the highest percentage of unemployment in the world, according to studies.
And additional research indicates that Nigeria’s unemployment rate will increase further to 40.6%, indicating that more than half of the population is not employed and is of working age.
“As a result, the country will keep stumbling under the weight of several economic and social problems.
“The nation will overcome many of its challenges by creating a favorable economic environment and fostering the expansion of small businesses in the country.”
