As the naira depreciated further to N580/$1, the Peoples Democratic Party accused the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government of corruption for retaining Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

This was stated in a statement signed by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja on Sunday, titled, “PDP to APC: You Have Admitted to Wrecking the Naira.”

According to the PDP, the APC’s acceptance of Emefiele’s retention, who allegedly oversaw the looting of the country’s treasury, is an admission that the party purposefully sabotaged the economy and made life difficult for Nigerians.

“Our party insists that, based on Senator John Akpanudoedehe’s comments, the APC deliberately kept a CBN Governor in office who allegedly supervised the ‘sharing and looting’ of monies in order for APC leaders to pillage the CBN. “We call on the APC and the Buhari Presidency to come clean on their activities in the CBN that have brought the value of the CBN down.

Attempts to contact the APC were unsuccessful. The phone number of the party’s National Secretary, John Akpanudoedehe, was switched off when calls were made to it.

As of the time of filing this report, no response to a text message sent to him had been received.
