Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has insisted that despite the danger, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in his state is focused on making sure that voters use their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) “to teach a lesson to those who think they can undermine the state.”
According to reports, Governor Wike stated that he is a target for eradication during his remarks on Thursday at the PDP campaign flag-off rally for the Tai Local Government Area (LGA), which was held at the Primary School II field in the neighborhood.

The G5, of which Wike is a prominent member, formed after Atiku Abubakar defeated Wike and other PDP candidates to win the party’s nomination for president in the 2023 election.
The group has been demanding the resignation of the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to pave the way for a southerner to lead the party in order to achieve a “regional balance”.
Ayu and Atiku are both from northern Nigeria, according to the governors.
Governors and other Wike-supporting party members left the PDP presidential campaign committee.
“But, what did I really do that they want to kill me for?” the Rivers governor questioned. I only insisted that since the presidential candidate came from the north, the national chairmanship position should go to the south. This follows the “live and let live” philosophy. Did I make a mistake?
