Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, his deputy, Marvellous Godwins Omobayo, and leaders and members of the Edo Peoples Democratic Party campaigned for the party’s candidate in the upcoming election on Saturday.
The PDP stalwarts took the party’s campaign for the 21 September governorship election to Owan East and Owan West Local Government Areas, seeking support for Dr Asue Ighodalo and his running mate, Osarodion Ogie.
The campaign train was met by jubilant crowds in both LGAs, with the party’s candidate pledging to sustain the growth and development trajectory in the state if elected.
Speaking at the Owan West Local Government Area Secretariat, Obaseki said the party is presenting a competent and credible candidate who will emerge victorious in the forthcoming election.
He added that the party’s campaign is focused on issues affecting the people.
He noted that the party’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo, and himself were the pillars of the previous government under Adams Oshiomhole, working for eight years without pay. Obaseki highlighted that Ighodalo has the experience to sustain the ongoing projects and programmes initiated by his government to improve the lives of the people and place the state on the path of prosperity and progress.
Obaseki stated, “Asue Ighodalo has been working with me since 2008, and I have known him for 40 years. He is not seeking money, fame, or fortune but wants to work for the people of Edo. He is wealthy and chairs many boards, but he resigned to serve the people of Edo.
“When Oshiomhole approached me to work for him, I told him I couldn’t do it alone. He asked me to find capable people to assist, so I called Asue Ighodalo to join me. We were the backbone of Oshiomhole’s administration.
“We told Oshiomhole that we would invest our own money to work for the people of Edo. Oshiomhole never paid us for eight years. We paid to serve the government and the people of Edo State.”
He added, “Ighodalo’s collaboration with Osarodion Ogie will ensure the development of the state. Owan West is for PDP, and we always win our elections here, but this time, we need a 90 per cent victory.”
Speaking to party faithful at the Afuze Mini Township Stadium in Owan East Local Government Area, Obaseki said, “Asue Ighodalo is a hardworking man, not a thief, and will not steal your money. Instead, he will work tirelessly to improve the people’s lives in the state.”
Reassuring the sustainability of all ongoing developmental projects and programmes if Ighodalo is elected, Obaseki said, “We came together in 2018 to rescue Edo State, and since 2016, Ighodalo has worked as the chairman of Alaghodaro to move the state forward and put it on the path of development and growth.
“In the last eight years, we have done much for the people of Edo State. We have achieved a lot in sports and other sectors. We have much more work to do, and only brilliant people can continue our development. Ogie and Ighodalo are the right people to continue where we stop. The team is solid and has the state’s best interests at heart.”
On his part, Ighodalo promised to improve all sectors of the state’s economy, including security, agriculture, education, power, and internet connectivity, making life more meaningful for the Owan people and the Edo people at large.
Ighodalo also vowed to expand the agricultural sector, especially with the commissioning of the Sobe-Sabongida Ora Road, adding, “We will work to ensure Edo becomes the number one cocoa producer in Nigeria.”
In Afuze, Ighodalo promised that his administration would revitalise Afuze and restore Nigeria to winning ways, adding, “Obaseki has set the pace for us to build upon. The suffering is too great, and we must work together to end the suffering and hardship.”
