Pan- Yoruba group accuses southern governors of overheating the polity: 2023 Presidency

A pan-Yoruba advocacy group, Yoruba Appraisal Forum (YAF) on Friday, claimed that the position canvased by Southern Gov­ernors ahead of the 2023 election is tantamount to “overheating the Polity” and called for caution over the ongoing national de­bate on which part of the country will produce Presi­dent Muhammadu Buhari’s successor.

The Southern Gover­nors at their meeting in Lagos earlier this week in­sisted that the presidency must rotate to the South in the coming dispensation, a position YAF claimed is generating needless ten­sion between the North and South.

YAF said that the tension being generated by the res­olutions of the Southern governors’ meeting with the rest of the country has become a cause for concern amongst all Nigerians.

Already, Northern gov­ernors and elders, youths as well as various groups have rejected the position of the Southern governors, particularly on power shift and other demands made by them last Monday in Lagos.

The Yoruba coalition al­leged that some powerful politicians and individuals have leveraged on the is­sues to mobilize traditional rulers and groups from dif­ferent ethnic nationalities to agitate in support of the position of the governors.

Comrade Adeshina An­imashaun, YAF National Coordinator in a statement noted that the utterances of some of the civil society groups already recruited by these powerful politi­cians, creating tension across some of the South­ern States is not promoting peaceful coexistence of various tendencies.
