Aloy Ejimakor, lead Counsel of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has raised the alarm over the health status of the agitator.
Ejimakor said Kanu is ill with shortness of breath, low blood pressure and general malaise.
He lamented that the Department of State Services, DSS, refused doctors from having access to Kanu despite his ill-health.
Ejimakor disclosed this after a routine meeting between Kanu and his legal team at the DSS facility in Abuja.
According to Ejimakor: “Yesterday, during our visitation with MAZI NNAMDI KANU, we found him ill, with shortness of breath, low BP and general malaise.
“For this reason, he requested to see his Doctor and we submitted a letter in this regard. Today, the Doctor arrived the DSS but was denied access to #MNK.”
The IPOB leader has been detained at DSS facility since he was rearrested and repatriated to Nigeria from Kenya.
Kanu has earlier decried his ill-health and after much back and forth between his legal team and the DSS, he was allowed to seek medical attention.

Nigerian shatters world record with 75-hour videogame marathon
A 24-year-old Nigerian man, Oside Oluwole, known as “Khoded,” has set a new Guinness World Record for the “longest videogame marathon playing a soccer game.”
According to Guinness World Records in a report via its website on Tuesday, Oluwole played for an astonishing 75 hours, far surpassing the previous record of 50 hours held by Englishman David Whitefoot since 2022.
The biochemist-turned-car dealer from Ijebu Ode chose Dream League Soccer 2023, a mobile game he’s been passionate about since 2016, for his record attempt.
Unlike previous record holders who used FIFA or Pro Evolution Soccer, Oluwole played on his iPhone connected to a TV screen.
“I really enjoyed myself playing for 75 hours straight with just some hours of rest. It wasn’t an easy task, but I must say it was all fun. It was such a great moment; the event was very interesting and I’m grateful to God that it was successful,” Oluwole said.
Following GWR rules, Oluwole was allowed five minutes of rest for every hour of gameplay. During his marathon, he played over 500 matches.
The record attempt was not just for personal glory as Oluwole used the opportunity to raise funds for a local hospital in his hometown.
His achievement has garnered praise from local officials, including Seun Adesanya of the Ogun State House of Assembly, who called it a testament to Mr Oluwole’s dedication, determination, and the countless hours of practice he invested in mastering the game.
Adesanya wrote, “The Guinness World Record for longest videogame marathon playing a soccer game is a testament to Mr Oluwole’s dedication, determination, and the countless hours of practice he invested in mastering the game.”
Oluwole’s feat is particularly noteworthy as he broke the record by an unprecedented margin. Since its establishment in 2010 with a 24-hour time, the record had been broken seven times in 11 years before reaching 50 hours.
Inspired by Chef Hilda Baci’s cook-a-thon that captured Nigeria’s attention last year, Oluwole now aims to set more world records in soccer video games, including console games like FIFA and PES.
4 people killed in shooting near a mosque in Oman
At least four people were killed and several others wounded in gunfire near a mosque in Oman on Tuesday.
The attack took place early in Wadi al-Kabir, a district east of the capital city, Muscat, as Muslim Shiites were carrying out a religious ritual.
Police said in a statement on X platform that security forces took the necessary measures to calm the situation.
The Pakistani Embassy in Oman confirmed that the country’s two nationals were among the fatalities.

Oman, which is located on the Arabian Peninsula, is considered one of the safest countries in the Arab world and is popular with foreign tourists.
In a video purporting to show the incident, dozens of people can be seen fleeing the Imam Ali Mosque as the sound of repeated gunfire could be heard.
It remained unclear whether one or more gunmen opened fire.

Kogi Govt doles out N26.5m to 1,326 newly posted Corp members
A total of 1326 newly posted Corp members will receive N20,000 each, amounting to N26,520,000, from the Kogi State Government to ease their welfare.
Governor Ahmed Ododo disclosed this on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch B Stream 1 Orientation Course held at the NYSC permanent orientation camp at Asaya in Kogi State.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Joel Salifu Oyibo, said the gesture was to motivate the Corps members deployed to the state.
Ododo, who promised to reward outstanding Corp members after their service year, implored them to be diligent, selfless and hardworking to enable them make the needed impact at the end of their stay in Kogi State.
“I am urging all employers of labour to accept Corps members posted to their organisations for their service year. I am assuring the Corps members deployed to Kogi State of my administration’s commitment to their safety and welfare during and after their service year in the state,” he stated.
Earlier, the Kogi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Monday Anyebe, advised the Corps members to avoid acts and places that can endanger their lives during and after their service year in the state.
The commissioner, who is also the Chairman, Governing Board of the NYSC in the state, urged them to be security conscious and be vigilant at all times, stressing that they should also avoid moving around during odd hours in their places of primary assignment.
In his remarks, the Kogi State Coordinator, NYSC, Femi Osungbobun, advised the Corps members to make use of the knowledge acquired from the camp to impact on their various places of primary assignment.

Delta court sentences man to death for killing twins for ritual
A High Court sitting at Asaba, the Delta State capital, has sentenced one Onuwa Ijie to death, and Nwanozie Uzor to 14 years imprisonment for murder and conspiracy to commit the murder of twin boys, Chidalu and Chigozie Agwunobi.
The court presided over by Justice Onome Marshal-Umukoro sentenced two convicts over the murder of the seven-year-old boys.
The prosecution conducted by a Deputy Director in the Ministry of Justice, Mrs Paula Akpoguma, in proof of the case called five witnesses.
The court held that the testimony of the five witnesses proved the case against the two defendants beyond reasonable doubt.
The prosecution stated that tragedy struck the family of Olise Agwunobi of Oko-Ogbele Community on March 5, 2020, when their seven-year-old twin boys were lured by the defendants to a bush and they proceeded to cut off their penis, eyes, tongues and hands which they hurriedly took to a native doctor at Aguleri in Anambra State.
“One of the defendants had earlier gone to the school of the twin children to take them but was turned down by the school teacher, one Mrs Emelda Ezekwude,” she said.
Delivering his judgment, Justice Marshal-Umukoro stated that after carefully evaluating the evidence presented before him, the prosecution had discharged the burden of proof as the first defendant from his confessional statement was the person who sowed the seed of committing human rituals in the mind of the second defendant by giving the phone number of one Chukwudi Edemuzor who was alleged to be searching for twins to kill for money.
The court maintained that the law is settled that the testimony of an investigating police officer was not hearsay evidence, and the court can rely on it.
Speaking with journalists after the judgment on Tuesday, the prosecuting counsel, Akpoguma thanked the court for upholding the cause of justice, “reaffirming that the judicial system works.”
Binance executive: Court issues bench warrant against Kuje prison medical doctor
A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Dr Abraham Ehizojie, the Medical Doctor at the health facility of Kuje Correctional Centre.
The warrant was issued over alleged refusal to produce the medical report of Tigran Gambaryan, the detained executive of Binance Holdings Ltd.
Justice Emeka Nwite gave the order following an application by Gambaryan’s lawyer, Mark Mordi, SAN.
Recall that Gambaryan was whisked into the Court 9 of the high-rise building housing the court in wheelchair earlier in the morning.
Gambaryan, alongside the cryptocurrency firm, is facing a money laundering charge preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Justice Nwite had, on July 5, ordered the management of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to release the medical certificate of Gambaryan on or before July 16 (today).
The judge gave the order following an application by Mordi.
Mordi had prayed the court to summon Ehizojie to explain why he had allegedly refused to make available his client’s medical report despite the earlier court order.
Gambaryan had, on May 23, collapsed in the open court due to alleged ill-health.
The defence law firm, Aluko & Oyebode, had also, on May 27, raised alarm that the cryptocurrency firm’s executive might die in the Kuje Correctional Centre due to his alleged deteriorating health.
NAN reports that at the resumed hearing on Tuesday, Mordi said in open court that the judge’s order had not been complied with.
The judge then asked a prison official who brought Gambaryan to court about the development.
The prison official said he got the court order and delivered the order to the doctor on July 9 (Tuesday).
“He is not here and I expected him to be here,” he added.
The EFCC counsel, Ekene Iheanacho, told the judge that he thought that the medical officer would be in court.
Mordi then prayed the court to issue a bench warrant against the medical officer of the correctional centre, to ensure that he is produced in court on the next adjourned date.
The lawyer also asked the court to make an order for his client to be given hospital remand immediately so that thorough medical examination could be carried out ob him, to know his true state of health.
“My client came in here on a wheelchair. He has been complaining of a back pain.
“We need to be careful of the life in our hands,” Mordi said.
Iheanacho, who did not dispute the fact that the defendant should be given adequate treatment, disagreed that Gambaryan should be placed in hospital remand.
After listening to counsels’ submissions, Justice Nwite said it was unfortunate that a government institution would be treating a court order with levity.
“I hereby make an order of bench arrant on the medical doctor at the Kuje Correctional Service, to appear before this court,” he said.
He also ordered that Gambaryan be taken to the Nizamiye Hospital for medicare for 24 hours, at any time of his choice but under full security surveillance.
The judge adjourned the matter until Oct. 11 and Oct. 18 for continuation of trial.
Earlier, Dr Olubukola Akinwunmi, Head, Payment Policy and Regulation Division at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), gave evidence and was cross-examined by Babatunde Fagbohunlu, SAN, counsel for Binance, the 1st defendant in the criminal charge.

Kaduna Petroleum College to be operational soon
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, said on Tuesday that the Petroleum Technology Development Fund-owned College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna, would soon become operational.
The Minister stated this during a facility tour of the institution located along the Kaduna – Zaria Expressway way, behind the Kaduna International Trade Fair Complex, on Tuesday.
Lokpobiri, accompanied by the top management staff of the PTDF, expressed satisfaction with the state-of-the-art facilities on the ground in the college established in 2009 which has so far gulped more than N15bn.
Our correspondent reports that 15 years after the projects remain uncompleted.
But the minister after the facility tour of the projects, noted that with the facilities on the ground, it was time to ensure the the college was operational while adding that the ministry won’t allow the college to rot away.
According to the minister, the college with the mandate to train senior cadre officers in the oil and gas sector, would save the country a lot of foreign exchange from training Nigerians overseas.
He added that every year Nigerians were being trained abroad but with the state-of-the-art facilities at the college, there won’t be a need for that.
The Minister said, “I am waiting on the Executive Secretary to give the relevant briefs then I will brief Mr. President to see how the place will be commissioned and put to use as soon as possible.
“This will save us a lot of foreign exchange. As you know the mandate of PTDF is basically to build capacity using the limited resources to train people at levels including doctorate level outside the country.
“But if this place is commissioned and put to use with collaboration with the university partnership with and then other stakeholders like NNPC and other industry players will be able to save the money to train a lot more Nigerians.
“Every year, thousands of people apply for training but with the limited funds can only take a few with this arrangement, a lot more people will be trained here and they will still get the foreign certificate that they need.
“So, I believe that today’s inspection is absolutely satisfactory because I saw more than what I was told in the briefs. I am happy that I came today and I am happy that Nigerians will also have the privilege of seeing this through different media and then continue to give us the cooperation that is needed to enable us to complete this project and then use them for the purpose that they have been built.”
Earlier in his welcome address, the Executive Secretary of the PTDF, Ahmad Aminu, expressed the readiness of the institute to go operational as most projects had reached the completion stage.
He added that so far Sixty-three (63) out of the Eighty-Seven (87) contracts awarded have been completed while twenty-four (24) contracts were at various stages of completion.
According to him, the completed buildings and facilities include an international Conference Centre, Residential Buildings, a Staff School, a Students Hostel, a Library, a Management Wing, an Indoor Sports Hall, a Shopping Arcade, Perimeter fencing, a Mosque, a Chapel, Dual Carriageways, Internal Road networks/drainages, parking lots, External electrical reticulation, 33KVA substation, Extension of 33KVA power line, Independent Power Generating Plants (3Nr. 1.5MVA).
Other completed projects, he said, are sewage treatment plant, IT Backbone and infrastructure boreholes, water treatment Plant, external water supply and reticulation other supporting electrical and mechanical engineering services.
Speaking further, the PTDF boss noted that the Fund established the College in 2009, aimed at developing a world-class institution for the training of senior technical, management and executive cadre within the nation`s Petroleum Industry and beyond.
According to him, the vision of the College was to become a world-class training institute serving the needs of the energy industry in Nigeria and Africa while the mission was to achieve excellence in both theoretical and practical solutions for industry training, career progression, research and development, through collaborations with reputable, international and indigenous partners in the Energy Industry and academia.
He also said that the National University Commission had granted a provincial license College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna to operate as a private postgraduate university.
He added that the NUC approved CPESK to commence operations with nineteen (19) take-off programmes spread across six (6) departments and three (3) faculties respectively.
He explained that based on the approval, PTDF initiated discussions with three reputable United Kingdom universities to run postgraduate programs in Engineering, Applied & Earth Sciences, Computing & Telecommunication Technology, Health, Safety & Environment, and Business Management based on an International Joint Venture approach.
“The three universities are the University of Portsmouth; University of Strathclyde; and Robert Gordon University,” he said
He added that in line with global best practice, a lean governance structure is being proposed for the College.
“This will be a top-bottom structure consisting of a Board of Trustees, President/Vice Chancellor, Heads of Functional Unit (Head of Academic, Librarian, Registrar, Director of Works, and Bursar,” Aminu said.
In addition, he said, PTDF and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited developed a collaborative framework for the delivery of all Continuing Professional Development, Career Progression Programmes and industry-based training for the oil and gas industry at CPESK.
He said, “In this regard, the Fund and NNPCL have signed a Memorandum of Understanding under mutual terms and conditions to strengthen the collaborative framework for the effective utilization of the College’s facilities.
“One of the terms of the MoU is the furnishing of the 240-room ICC by the NNPC, which has since commenced and attained appreciable progress.”
Court dismisses Emefiele’s bid to get medicals in UK
Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on Tuesday dismissed a bid by the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele to travel to the United Kingdom for medical treatment.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Emefiele for criminal breach of trust, forgery, conspiracy to obtain by false pretence, and obtaining money by false pretence during his time as CBN governor.
The commission alleged that the defendant fraudulently obtained $6.2 million by forging a document titled: “Re: Presidential Directive on Foreign Election Observer Missions,” dated January 26, 2023, with Ref No. SGF.43/L.01/201 and purported same to have emanated from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (AGF).
He was also accused of using his office to confer unfair and corrupt advantage on two companies – April 1616 Nigeria Limited and Architekon Nigeria Limited.
In his ruling, Justice Muazu dismissed the application for lack of merit.

Muazu held that though the applicant said he would be away from July 28 to September 10, there was no medical appointment or invitation brought before the court.
He said the court had the discretion to grant leave but the applicant is standing trial in various charges in three courts of competent jurisdictions.
The judge said: “The letter of invitation for medical follow-up is not attached.
“As it stands now, I cannot use my discretion to grant the application and he is standing trial in three courts.
“The application is hereby dismissed and the adjourned date for continuation of the trial still stands.”

Courts in Anambra State on Tuesday remained under lock owing to the strike action by members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Anambra State branch.
The strike crippled activities in all the courts in all parts of the state, leaving court premises deserted.
JUSUN had last weekend declared the indefinite strike, following the expiration of a 21-day ultimatum issued by the union.
In a strike notification letter signed by the Assistant Secretary of JUSUN in the state, Nwezi Ugochukwu, the union said the industrial action was due to the Anambra State government’s refusal to pay the Consolidated Judiciary Salary Structure (CONJUSS).
When TVN visited the state Judiciary complex in Awka, the place was locked with no worker in sight.
Some stakeholders of the justice sector in the state decried the nonchalance of the governor in dealing with the workers.
A judiciary staff who pleaded anonymity said: “Now that the courts have been paralyzed, maybe government will now be forced to negotiate with us.
“This matter has lingered since 2011 when we had an agreement with government, and again in 2015, but all these have been ignored.
“Even the 21-day ultimatum we handed government before embarking on this strike, they ignored it.”

Reps to grill FCT council chairmen on expenditure Tuesday
The House of Representatives has slated Tuesday, July 26, 2024, for questioning of six Area Council Chairmen of the Federal Capital Territory on their expenditures.
They would face the House Committee on FCT and Ancillary Matters after failing to honour several invitations extended to them.
The Chairman of the Committee, Frederick Agbedi, stated this on Tuesday during a meeting attended by the Minister of State for FCT, Mariya Mahmud and the six council chairmen.
The lawmaker chided the council bosses for treating parliamentary invitations with contempt.
He said, “The committee is not witch-hunting anyone, but anyone who is in public service must be accountable.”
The Minister apologised for not being able to meet up with previous invitations, pledging however, that going forward, she will work with the committee.
Similarly, the Chairman, Kwali Area Council, Danladi Chia, apologised on behalf of his colleagues, promising to cooperate with the panel in the future.
According to a schedule provided by the Clerk of the Committee, Matthew Okureka, Abaji Area Council would appear before the Committee on Tuesday, July 23, 2024; Bwari on Wednesday, July 24, 202 and Gwagwalada on Thursday, July 25, 2024.
Also, the Kuje Area Council would face the Committee on Tuesday, July 30, 2024; Kwali on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, and AMAC on Thursday, August 1, 2024.
The hearings are expected to be held by 1 pm on the allocated days.
Agbedi said the Committee had to adjourn the investigative hearing till next week following the death of Ekene Adams, a lawmaker
Recall that the Committee had last Tuesday, threatened to stop the budgetary allocation to the FCT, owing to the failure of the council chairmen to honour its summons.
