Rising Inflation and Hardship: NLC Calls for New Minimum Wage in 2026

0

Citing rising inflation and deteriorating hardship nationwide, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has urged the Federal Government to review workers’ wages immediately in the next year.

Joe Ajaero, President of the NLC, stated in his New Year’s speech to employees that workers’ pay should be a livable wage rather than just enough to survive.

In keeping with Mr. President’s pledge to pay living wages, we demand an urgent salary review given the rising inflation and hardship. A worker’s income must provide life, not just survival. We’ll use every legal tool at our disposal to pursue this,” Ajaero declared.

The labor leader admitted that 2025 was a particularly challenging year for Nigerian workers, characterized by growing vulnerability and economic distress.

“As we approach 2026, the Nigeria Labour Congress offers firm brotherly greetings and strong solidarity to every person who is burdened by the burden of our current socioeconomic system. Without a doubt, the previous year was difficult and revealed our weaknesses,” he said.

Ajaero stated that organized labor was unwavering in its quest for social justice and fair income allocation in spite of the obstacles.

“But they did little to weaken our resolve or focus in our pursuit of social justice and equitable wealth redistribution as a means of fostering national unity,” he continued.

According to Ajaero, the Federal Government, led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has promised more significant participation, therefore the new year is filled with cautious hope.

“We approach this new year with a strengthened commitment, bolstered by struggle and insight, rather than with naive hope. He stated, “The President’s pledges of a more devoted and significant engagement from the Federal Government have opened a potential vista for dialogue.”

But he cautioned that the NLC would continue to be watchful and would not think twice about organizing workers to demand accountability from the government.

“We must organize, mobilize, and hold every tier of government accountable,” stated Ajaero. Only governments and political players who exhibit a sincere desire to free the masses from oppression and poverty will have our cooperation and support.

According to the president of the NLC, organized labor will oppose political manipulation and reject politicians who profit from divisive politics and hollow promises.

He declared, “We categorically reject those mercantilistic politicians whose stock-in-trade is empty promises, divisive rhetoric, and policies that decimate our living standards for the benefit of a parasitic few.”

He emphasized that peace and safety are essential to national stability and that security must continue to be a major priority for governments at all levels.

“We acknowledge recent successes,” the NLC President stated. Since everyone deserves to live in peace and security, we will keep pushing the government to build on its current achievements. The administration ought to stop looking back.

In closing, Ajaero urged workers to stick together in 2026, stating that solidarity is the most powerful instrument for bringing about national change.

As a result, let’s proceed with greater unity, organization, and resolve than before. “Our victory lies in our unity, and our power remains in our numbers,” he declared.

Obviously lacking Jurisdiction, Abuja Judge Grants Exparte Order On Disputed Lagos Property

0

Officers of the Federal Capital Territory, High Court, Abuja, Tuesday, sealed up a property located at Lekki Peninsula Scheme, Lagos, following an Exparte Order granted by Hon. Justice Othman Musa of the court.

The sealed up property houses various business entities including Angelos, Café, Zevis, Pharmaceuticals, EOD PFM Ltd, Lord of Hosts Miracle Church, who have been carrying their various businesses in the premises for several years.

The Exparte Order was granted in a case for enforcement of Fundamental Rights in Suit No. FCT/HC/CV/4636/2025, instituted by Mr. Henry Ugonna Orabuchi Vs Nigeria Police Force and Others.

The plaintiff had alleged that his fundamental Rights as guaranteed under Sections 34, 35, 36, 37, 41, and 44 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and Articles 9 and 14 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (Ratification and Enforcement) Act, have been breached.

He claimed that he purchased 3,000 square meters of reclaimed land situated at the back of Plot No A Block 12, Lekki Peninsula Scheme, Lagos State from the Landlord, Mr. Emecheta Elvis Eze, which has nothing to do with the premises where the business entities are located.

The plaintiff filed the suit to shield him from honouring invitation of the Nigeria Police Force, following a Petition against him by Prof. Mike Ozekhome, SAN, (lawyer to Mr. Emecheta) over Mr.
Henry’s conduct that amounts to criminal trespass, damage to property and threat to life.

In the fundamental Rights suit filed by the law office of Chikaosolu Ojukwu, SAN, on behalf of the plaintiff, it was argued that the Police Invitation infringes on his fundamental Rights and is aimed at compelling him into relinquishing his lawful proprietary and contractual rights over the 3,000square meters of reclaimed land behind the sealed up property.

In his Exparte application before the Court, Ojukwu urged the Court to grant an Exparte Order to seal up the Lagos property.

The court presided over by Justice Musa granted the order on on November 24, 2025 to seal and secure the entire property, including the reclaimed land at the back of the property measuring 3,000 square meters

He also ordered the immediate stoppage of all construction works, activities, actions, or steps on the said property while ensuring that no person, authority, or entity howsoever described is permitted access to or entry upon the property pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit pending before the court.

Following the order of the court which was supposed to have been vacated, having elapsed, on December 30, 2025,, all the occupants of the property and their workers were forcefully chased out of their business premises and the property was sealed up by people who introduced themselves as officers of the FCT High Court, from Abuja.

All efforts by the various business owners to explain to the FCT Court officials that their business premises is different from the 3,000square meters of the reclaimed land upon which the plaintiff claim is predicated, met stiff resistance as they were forcefully pushed out of the premises without being allowed any opportunity to remove anything from there.

The institution of this case in FCT Abuja and the grant of the Exparte Order suggests a grand and calculated scheme orchestrated to cause mischief and hardship on the Landlord of the Premises and the innocent occupants who have been deprived of access to their business premises. The Business owners are not parties to the alleged agreement between Mr. Henry Ugonna Orabuchi, and Mr. Elvis Emecheta, over the 3,000 square meters of the reclaimed land behind their business premises and are not parties to the fundamental rights enforcement suit.

The Exparte Order of the FCT High Court over the Lagos property is a manipulation and abuse of judicial process using the instrumentality of the judiciary itself (FCT High Court) which has occasioned great hardship and injustice on the business owners and Landlord.

Peter Obi’s Defection Gets Nod from Atiku’s Aide, Tagged Historic

0

Demola Olarenwaju, senior political assistant to former vice president Atiku Abubakar, called former presidential candidate Peter Obi’s move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) “historical.”

According to reports, on Tuesday in Enugu State, Obi declared his intention to leave the Labour Party and join the ADC.

Speaking about the development on his 𝕏 account, Olarenwaju asked Atiku and Obi’s supporters to cooperate and guarantee a unified ticket.

He also out that under President Bola Tinubu, Nigerians’ future is uncertain.

“Seeing the sun at noon is not a sign of great eyesight, but rather the ability to see the sun at midnight proves our imagined reality as enlightened,” he wrote. “Peter Obi’s move to ADC is a historical pivot, repeatedly predicted by some of us.”

Therefore, the demand is for Obidients and Atikulates to sheath swords and make this happen, even as we welcome Obi to an alliance he has been a part of from the start.

“After all, it is our future, and under Tinubu, it is not safe at all.”

Obi, meantime, has voiced his disapproval of politicians’ open celebration of electoral theft.

According to reports, on Wednesday in Enugu State, Peter Obi made a public announcement about his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alliance.

Former Anambra State governor Peter Obi pledged to oppose any attempt to rig the 2027 election in a legitimate and legal manner.

In order to prevent pre-election controversies, he also advocated for early vetting of candidates’ academic backgrounds.

“We have all witnessed those who benefited from our democracy now becoming accessories of our democracy through coercion or gangsterism to the opposition,” he declared.

“We will fight against this; we cannot allow it to occur. People are now openly commemorating electoral fraud.

“And we are stating that we will use all legal and legitimate means to oppose those who intend to rig elections in Nigeria in 2027.”

‘The Nomadic Politician Will End Up as Second Fiddle’ – Tinubu’s Aide, Bwala

0

Daniel Bwala, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Policy Communication, has criticized an unidentified nomadic politician who defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

According to reports, Bwala called the ADC a criminal organization in a post via 𝕏 on Wednesday.

The nomadic politician would become a campaign DG or second fiddle in ADC, according to Tinubu’s adviser.

“Nomadic politicians joining the structure of criminality,” he declared.

By joining the criminal organization, the itinerant politician is carrying on with his crazy pursuit.

“The wondering spirit will still wind up as a campaign DG or second fiddle, whether it is PDP, APGA, Labour, or ADC.

“If your adviser is insane, that is how your political trajectory would be.”

Bwala’s statement follows former Anambra State governor Peter Obi’s transition from LP to ADC and his intention to run for the party’s ticket in 2027.

In the meantime, Peter Obi recently stated that he doesn’t have time to react to characters like Bwala.

It was remembered that Bwala had referred to Peter Obi as “419” in an interview with Channels Television, emphasizing that he had accomplished nothing while serving as governor of Anambra State.

According to Bwala, Peter Obi held state government monies in a bank falsely so he could earn interest on the deposit.

“Peter Obi saved the money, but he saved it in a bank where he was chairman, which is where he was making the money,” he stated. He would always recommend Anambra to you. He would say, “I saved this when I left.”A concept known as asset and liability exists.

“There is nothing on the ground when you subtract liability from what you thought were the savings once the manpower arrived and revealed how much liability they had. We refer to this as pure 419.

In response, Peter Obi stated, “Ordinarily I do not answer these type of characters,” in an interview with media personality Nedu on the “Clarity Zone” podcast. I had no outstanding debts to suppliers who had delivered my goods, gratuities, pensions, or salaries that the state was required to pay me when I left the office.

Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, has refuted rumors that Peter Obi might run for vice president in the 2027 elections.

In an interview with Arise News on Tuesday, Tanko denied such claims.

He claims that Obi traveled the world to become the President of Nigeria rather than to become a Vice President.

He claimed that he didn’t travel the world to become vice president.

According to Tanko, “He traveled the world to learn so that he can be number one—to be the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

‘Threats to My Life Are Increasing Daily’ – IPOB Lawyer Ejiofor Raises Alarm

0

Ifeanyi Ejiofor, a lawyer for the Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, has expressed outrage at a purported threat to his and his family’s lives.

In a petition dated December 29, 2025, Ejiofor stated that it is now necessary to formally inform the public and the world community about what he called a planned campaign of hostility and intimidation.

The Oraifite native from Anambra State’s Ekwusigo Local Government Area noted that the growing threats to his life and his family’s safety made the public alert relevant.

He emphasized that well-meaning people from all walks of life responded to the alarm with calls, messages, and statements of profound concern.

The human rights attorney went on to say that despite the public outrage, the threats have unfortunately continued and gotten worse, requiring him to present the historical and true story to the globe.

Remember when I voiced a public alert about clear and serious risks to my life and my family’s safety? Well-meaning people from all walks of life responded to the alarm with calls, messages, and statements of profound worry.

Unfortunately, these threats have since continued and increased rather than decreased, which is why I must present this historical and accurate story to the public.

The appeal stated in part, “It is well known that I am currently celebrating Christmas and New Year’s with my family at my ancestral home in Oraifite, Anambra State.”

2027: Keyamo Says Popular Former Presidential Candidate Agrees to Run as Vice-Presidential Candidate

0

According to Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, a former presidential contender has consented to run for vice president in the 2027 election.

According to Naija News, Keyamo revealed this in a post via 𝕏, emphasizing that the former presidential candidate is going through a difficult time.

Keyamo added that the candidate is aware that a rival party’s primary election has already taken place.

The Minister claims that in order to mislead his followers about why he agreed to run for vice president, the former presidential candidate wrote and tore a number of comments.

“Finally, the chicken is coming home to roost,” he wrote. “I understand that someone, somewhere, has drafted and redrafted the statement he will release to hoodwink his ‘supporters’ on why he has accepted to be vice presidential candidate after a primaries that he knows have long since been concluded.” He has penned and destroyed numerous drafts that contain the typical platitudes like “my desire to rescue Nigeria” and so forth. We are thrilled about the possibility of exposing a real turncoat and a fraud in the upcoming elections, but it’s a difficult one for him. APC Launches Online Membership Validation Across All States and FCT

0

In an effort to improve paperwork and fortify the party’s internal structure, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has started its electronic membership registration process in all 36 of the federation’s states as well as the Federal Capital Territory.

The party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, made the announcement on Wednesday through a tweet on his verified 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) account.

Yilwatda claims that the registration and certification process will be carried out at the ward level across the country, guaranteeing party members’ grassroots involvement.

He clarified that both current and potential members of the ruling party are included by the effort.

The APC chairman said, “New and prospective members are kindly encouraged to register and become part of the progressive family, while all existing members are expected to validate their membership online.”

According to Yilwatda, the exercise was essential to insuring complete member involvement in APC operations, strengthening the party, and maintaining accurate records.

A reliable and current membership list, he continued, would improve internal democracy and decision-making within the party.

He stated, “The exercise is essential for proper documentation, party strengthening, and full participation in APC activities and decision-making.”

The APC chairman reiterated the initiative’s significance and characterized the e-membership drive as a step toward creating a more cohesive and resilient party.

According to Yilwatda, “a stronger register means a stronger party and a more united progressive movement.”

Additionally, he exhorted party members and allies to view the exercise as a chance to reaffirm their dedication to the party and democratic principles.

“Let’s take advantage of this chance to strengthen our democracy, reaffirm our dedication, and advance together,” he continued.
