Aloy Ejimakor, the lead Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Thursday, charged President Bola Tinubu to free the Biafra agitator.
Ejimakor said Tinubu had risen to become Nigeria’s president despite his past stance against one-Nigeria.
In an interview with Thisday on April 13th, 1997, Tinubu had said ‘I don’t believe in one Nigeria’.
However, posting on X, Ejimakor wrote: “Free Nnamdi Kanu because you were also once against one Nigeria
“In 1997, Tinubu proclaimed that he doesn’t believe in #OneNigeria but he went scot-free & became President. So, where lies the moral authority to detain MAZI NNAMDI KANU that said nothing different?”
The IPOB leader has remained locked up by the Department of State Services, DSS, on the orders of the Nigerian government.
Kanu has been locked up since he was rearrested in Kenya and repatriated to Nigeria to face his trial over his agitation for the actualization of Biafra.
Despite court rulings granting him bail, the Nigerian government has refused to let him off the hook.

Cross River Assembly calls for crackdown on illegal miners

The Cross River State House of Assembly has called on the State Government, through its relevant agencies, to stop the activities of migrants engaged in illegal mining in Okwa 1 and 2 and Ukwango in Boki Local Government Area.
The lawmakers made the resolution on Thursday in Calabar, sequel to a matter of urgent Public Importance on the encroachment of Fulanis in Okwa 1 and 2 and Ukwango communities in Boki LGA, sponsored by the Member representing Boki 1 State Constituency, Bette Obi.
Leading debate on the matter, Obi who is the Chairman House Committee on Agriculture and Forestry, disclosed that a large influx of unidentified Fulanis, estimated to be over 1000, have entered the Boki communities in pursuit of solid minerals.
Boki legislator said, “These Fulanis have been carrying out illicit gold mining within the Government Reserved Area hence robbing Boki LGA as well as the State of its natural resources and revenue.”
The lawmaker also expressed concern about the well-being of his constituents,” the communities are now facing crisis as the influx of the Fulanis has exceeded the number of indigenes. These communities now live in fear for their lives and property,” he stated.
In separate contributions, members lamented that illegal mining has become endemic in the State describing the situation as ” unfortunate”.
The lawmakers also observed that illegal mining is usually accompanied by criminality while calling on security agencies to stop the menace as soon as possible.
The assembly further resolved that security agencies be deployed to the affected communities to arrest and prosecute the miners while advocacy groups should be engaged to educate community leaders on the ills of allowing illegal mining in their communities.
In his remarks, the Speaker of the House, Elvert Ayambem, commended members for their overwhelming support for the motion and commitment towards improving the lives of the citizens through effective legislation.
Ayambem noted that illegal mining contributes greatly to environmental degradation and promised that the Assembly will ensure that the people of Boki do not suffer any negative consequences.

The lawmakers further noted that the present administration of Governor Bassey Otu is a responsive government with its “Peoples First” mantra expressed confidence that issues affecting the well-being of the citizens will receive immediate attention
Man Utd eye former Chelsea player to address defensive concerns

Manchester United are reportedly considering former Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso as a potential solution to their defensive issues.
The Red Devils have faced challenges in the left-back position, with both Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw struggling with fitness problems last season.
According to The Mirror, United have compiled a three-man shortlist for the left-back position, which includes Alonso, Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell, and Feyenoord’s David Hancko.
Alonso, who recently left Barcelona as a free agent, brings Premier League experience, having been part of Chelsea’s Premier League-winning side in 2016-17 and their Champions League triumph in 2020-21.
According to Caught Offside, the 33-year-old Spaniard is viewed as a short-term option and potential backup for Luke Shaw as his attacking prowess could provide additional support for United’s forward line.
“He has experience in the Premier League and he can help the full-back during attacks.
“The 33-year-old would only be a short-term option for the Red Devils considering his age and would mainly act as backup to Luke Shaw.
“It shows United’s intention to strengthen their defence in more than one position this summer. The Red Devils have also been linked with a move for a right-back to replace Wan-Bissaka.
“Negotiations are currently underway with Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt, which shows United are ready to completely overhaul their defensive line-up,” a post on Thursday via its website said.
This interest in Alonso comes as part of a broader strategy to strengthen United’s defence. The club has already secured the signatures of striker Joshua Zirkzee and defender Leny Yoro, while also being linked with Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt.
United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, is keen to address the left-back position after the team was forced to deploy right-backs Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot in that role last season due to injuries.
The Red Devils have been active in the transfer market, offloading players like Mason Greenwood, Willy Kambwala, and Donny van de Beek. There are also rumours surrounding the potential departures of Casemiro and Scott McTominay.
Give Tinubu time to correct abnormalities, APC chieftain begs Nigerians

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Uche Nwosu, has appealed to Nigerians to shelve the nationwide planned protest and allow President Bola Tinubu to fix the nation.
The chief of staff to former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, disclosed that it would be unfair to expect a government that has just spent a year in office to quickly fix the rots that plagued the country for decades.
Nwosu made the plea in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday.
His appeal comes barely 24 hours after the ruling APC called on concerned parents to watch the movement of their wards to prevent them from being recruited for violence ahead of the nationwide protest.
The demonstration, scheduled to run from August 1 to 10, has continued to generate tension and elicit mixed reactions from Nigerians.
Several groups who indicated interest in championing the campaign said the call for protest was provoked by the soaring cost of living and economic hardship in the country.
But Nwosu insisted that the president should be given time to ‘correct all the abnormalities.’
He said, “Let me use this opportunity to appeal to our beloved Nigerian youths to give peace a chance. We are indeed passing through hard times in our dear nation. But we cannot give up like those who do not have hope. It is true that in a democracy citizens have the right to protest but most often the protests in Nigeria where we have 250 ethnic groups do not end well.
“For instance, the EndSARS protest where a very peaceful protest was being hijacked by people who do not mean well for the country at the end of the day properties worth billions of naira and many lives were lost. Yes, President Bola Tinubu’s policies and reforms might be harsh now. But at the end of every tunnel, there will be light.
“He is barely a year in office. Why don’t we give him time to correct all the abnormalities we have seen in this country, the abnormalities of yesterday? Let’s give him time to correct them so that we can have a country of our collective hopes and aspirations. There is no place like home. Nigeria is our country. Let’s have a country where you and I will live and say this is our country.”

AJINOMOTO advocates low salt consumption among Lagosians
Ajinomoto Foods Nigeria Limited, an affiliate of a global food giant, Ajinomoto, makers of AJI-NO-MOTO® Umami food seasoning, has tasked Lagos residents with healthy living and low consumption of salt to reduce the risk of hypertension and other non-communicable diseases.
The firm said the use of AJI-NO-MOTO®food seasoning, a monosodium glutamate-a major kind of amino acid that enhances Umami taste, promotes healthy living by enhancing the flavour of food and reducing excessive salt consumption.
The company said the awareness was part of its efforts to improve nutrition through the reduction of salt while maintaining or enhancing flavour which it noted supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 for Zero Hunger and 3 for Good Health and Well-being.
Studies have shown that high sodium consumption can raise blood pressure, and high blood pressure is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke.
The firm reassured Nigerians of the safety of the food seasoning which promotes low salt intake, healthy living, and enhances the flavour of foods.
As part of its long-term strategy, AJINOMOTO has over the years, developed “AminoScience” and Enzyme technologies to create unique flavour for food products without compromising on quality or safety standards set by regulatory bodies worldwide.
Speaking at the 13th Annual Symposium & Awards Ceremony of the Health Writers Association of Nigeria, HEWAN, held in Lagos recently, Corporate Communications Manager of Ajinomoto Foods Nigeria Limited, Francisca Ikediashi, said people should avoid excessive salt intake, citing health reasons.
Ikediashi said the company had continually and significantly contributed to the promotion of good health and good culinary practice for healthy living of all families through the provision of nutritional seasoning products and other products of high quality to our consumers.
The manager noted that the safety of AJI-NO-MOTO had long been scientifically proven and its safety was approved by authorized agencies of the United Nations. She explained that Umami translates to “deliciousness”, and the term was named in 1908 by a Japanese scientist Ikeda Kikunae to describe the savoury taste produced by glutamate.
She pointed out that the umami food seasoning can be considered a healthier alternative to table salt, adding that it contains just one-third of the sodium.
Additionally, she explained that Umami” is the taste of “Glutamate”, an amino acid that is a component of protein.
“The most abundant natural raw material in the form of free glutamate that can be found naturally in meat, seafood, tomatoes, vegetables, human breastmilk. It is also found in Umami seasonings through fermentation or aged such as shrimp paste, fish sauce, fermented fish, fermented soya bean, soy sauce, etc. she said
Ikediashi assured that the food seasoning, made from sugarcane is safe for consumption and is used in over 100 countries and regions of the world to bring out the deliciousness in foods and promote the flavour of foods.
Urging Nigerians to patronize the brand and ignore misinformation around it, Ikediashi pointed out that excessive salt consumption leads to hypertension, a major risk factor for heart failure, stroke, and kidney disease which are currently on the rise in the country.
“AJI-NO-MOTO is considered a healthier alternative to salt in our meals as it helps to promote the deliciousness of Umami and reduce the salt content without compromising that great enjoyable taste at meal times.
“We are actively developing products and seasonings that utilize salt-reduction technologies and the safety of AJI-NO-MOTO® has long been scientifically proven and its safety approved by authorized agencies of the United Nations”, she said.
She urged Nigerians to debunk the myths and unscientific claims about MSG and to work with facts and science as the AJINOMOTO Group is committed to contributing to wellness of the human beings, the society and the planet through “AminoScience”
