Information Minister Urges Clear Messaging on FG Reforms to Prevent Public Backlash

0

The Federal Government is committed to making sure that public service reforms are not only put into place but also effectively communicated to Nigerians in order to improve accountability, transparency, and digital governance, according to the Honorable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.

Dasuki Ibrahim Arabi, the Director-General, and the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) management team paid the Minister a courtesy call in his Abuja office on Wednesday.

He emphasized that any reform program’s effectiveness depends on effective communication. In addition to being put into practice, reforms also need to be effectively conveyed.

Resistance to reforms is inevitable when they are not fully understood.

We must make sure Nigerians know that these reforms are intended to benefit them more broadly,” he stated.

Rabiu Ibrahim, the Minister’s Special Assistant (Media), signed the statement, which included this information.

He called reform “crucial to national development” and praised BPSR for maintaining institutional improvements throughout the public service.

The Minister cited the digitization of Nigeria’s public finance management system as one of the most significant developments in the last few years. He claims that the elimination of paper-based financial procedures has strengthened accountability within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), enhanced openness, and prevented leaks.

“The days of contractors racing ministries to pick up checks at year-end are long gone. These days, the system is digital.

The smooth operation of the banking industry throughout Nigeria with technology run by Nigerians would enable our public service to function effectively as well,” he stated.

According to the Minister, attitudinal transformation is necessary to complement structural reforms. National Orientation’s inclusion in the Ministry’s mandate, he clarified, indicates the Federal Government’s determination to encourage civic engagement, patriotism, and shared ownership of public institutions.

He also revealed continuous initiatives to digitize and modernize Nigeria’s archival system in order to avoid policy gaps and preserve institutional memory. When addressing deepfakes, misinformation, and manipulation by artificial intelligence, he emphasized the value of media and information literacy.

He gave the delegation his word that the Ministry’s organizations, such as the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Voice of Nigeria (VON), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), and Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), would keep promoting reform milestones and making sure Nigerians were informed.

The visit, according to the Director-General of BPSR, was intended to advance cooperation with the Ministry in order to speed up reforms, boost communication, and increase transparency among MDAs.

The visit, according to the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, was intended to improve cooperation with the Ministry in order to expedite reform communication and improve transparency among MDAs. He described the main tenets of the National Strategy on Public Service Reforms, which include enhancing citizen involvement, digitizing public finance management, bolstering national development planning, and raising governance standards.

“Public service reform is an ongoing process of bolstering institutions, enhancing accountability, and utilizing technology to improve outcomes for residents; it is not a one-time intervention.

To make sure that these changes are effectively understood, communicated, and sustainably implemented across all MDAs, our collaboration with the Ministry of Information and National Orientation is essential,” the Director-General said.

The DG pointed out that payroll integrity has improved across federal, state, and local agencies and that digitization improvements have greatly decreased irregularities like phantom workers.

He also called for better adherence to the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and urged MDAs to make operational and budgetary data available on their official platforms.

He also emphasized current initiatives to improve public servants’ digital literacy, such as safeguarding government communication systems through training on the proper use of cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence.

2027 Polls: Abati Calls on Bishops to Seek Papal Visit to Nigeria

0

Reuben Abati, a former TV host and presidential adviser, has encouraged the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) to ask the Pope to come to Nigeria and offer prayers before the general election in 2027.

During her appearance on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Thursday, Abati made the decision.

He mentioned that the Pope will make his first papal visit to Africa in April when he travels to four African nations: Algeria, Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea.

As the nation gets closer to the upcoming general elections, Abati emphasized the need for spiritual intervention and asked if Nigeria may advocate for inclusion in the Pope’s African visit.

He cited recent statements made by Catholic bishops pleading with President Bola Tinubu to address the country’s persistent violence and growing insecurity.

He said the church should ask Pope Leo XIV to visit in order to take further action.

Abati stated: “First, you cited the Nigerian Catholic Bishops telling President Tinubu that you need to take security measures and prevent the ongoing carnage.”

Since Pope Leo XIV will be traveling to four African nations in April, I would want to urge the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria to take note of this. Pope Leo’s first papal visit.

He’s traveling to Algeria, where Saint Augustine of Hippo was born. In addition to Equatorial Guinea, he will visit Cameroon and Angola.

Given that national elections are scheduled for 2027, Nigeria needs prayers right now. Is there anything left to do to encourage the Pope to visit and offer prayers for us here, where we are in need of them? It is impossible to have too many prayers.

According to reports, Khadi Aliyu Yaya Abubakar and Khadi Yakubu Mohammed, the Khadis of the Sharia Court of Appeal, as well as Justice Mansura Bargami, the High Court judge, were among those sworn in.

Speaking to the audience, Governor Kefas called the event a major turning point in his administration’s initiatives to uphold the rule of law, enhance governance, and promote more diversity in the state.

He emphasized that the foundation of democracy is still a robust and independent judiciary.

The governor declared, “A strong and independent judiciary remains the bedrock of democracy,” adding that the nominations demonstrated the administration’s dedication to maintaining the rule of law.

Kefas tasked the just sworn-in judges with carrying out their jobs with integrity, justice, and fairness.

He emphasized that the public’s confidence in the legal system is primarily dependent on their dedication to the rule of law and urged them to administer justice without fear or favor.

As the last resort for the average citizen, the judiciary is revered by the people of Taraba, the governor said, and he urged the new appointees to explain why they are trusted.

The newly appointed Special Advisers were also sworn in by Kefas, who urged them to use their knowledge and experience to forward the development objectives of his administration.

He claims that the advisers are supposed to offer creative solutions and strategic direction that will improve the lives of people throughout the state.

The governor also inaugurated members of the Persons Living with Disabilities Commission in a related development.

Kefas reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to inclusivity, promising to develop policies that safeguard the rights and dignity of people with disabilities and to offer equal opportunities.

He insisted that inclusive and people-centered governance is necessary, pointing out that no group in society should be excluded from the state’s efforts to progress.

Stakeholders congratulated the governor on what they characterized as a conscious effort to fortify institutions and advance inclusive government in Taraba State as the event came to a close.

A video clip tendered as evidence by the Nigeria Police before a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has revealed how a complainant attempted to bribe a judge of the court with 10,000 dollars.

A lawyer, who appeared in the video clip, Barrister Victor Giwa, was seen, addressing journalists and explaining to them how Asabe Waziri, the nominal compalinant in his trial before the court attempted to compromise a judge.

According to him, the judge said in an open court that he will have to return the case file to the Chief Judge because there were attamepts to compromise him in the matter.

The police had filed a contempt charge against Giwa and attached a flash drive to an affidavit in support of their motion seeking to hold Giwa for contempt.

In the clip played in an open court, Victor Giwa was seen explaining how Asabe Waziri, the nominal complainant in the case attempted to bribe an FCT High Court judge in Jabi, with the sum of 10,000 dollars to issue bench warrant against his client, Cecil Osakwe and arraign him.

Giwa , in the video stated how Asabe Waziri sponsored five charges against him and his client.

In the played video, Giwa stated “’ Asabe has plenty dollars to play around with. She has sponsored three charges against my client and two charges against me. She bribes people who can raise charges. She got former DPP of the federation and the former AIG Legal of the Nigerian police, to raise charges against me and my offence is that I represented my client and the judgement obtained in my client’s favour was against her.

“The judge said he is a Muslim and has vowed never to receive any form of graft and compromise his oath of office”.

The human right lawyer said the FCT Judiciary still has courageous Judges who will not pander to corrupt practices.

The 15min video clip ends with Giwa’s commendation of some FCT Judges who he said were incorruptible.

The trial judge, Justice Jude Onwubueize, after the video clip adjourned the case for ruling on Victor Giwa ‘s motions challenging the Court’s Jurisdiction for lack of personal services of the charge on him and the prosecution’s motion .

Before the clip was played, the trial Judged ruled against the objection raised by Giwa”s Counsel, Farouk Akanbi, from the Law firm of Ahmed Raj, SAN, objecting to the playing of the video clip citing none compliance with Section 84 of the evidence Act.

The police had accused Giwa of forging letterhead paper of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Awa Kalu.

But Awa Kalu, in a letter to the Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode. Egebtolun, put a lie to the allegation of the police against Ibitade amd Giwa.

A staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Asabe Waziri, is the nominal complainant in the matter.

The police disregarded the letter of the SAN to the Inspector-General of Police and acted of the complaints by Waziri.

Despite the letter of Prof. Awa Kalu to the Inspector-General of Police, formally distancing himself from the allegation of forgery and impersonation against Giwa and Ibitade, the police have gone ahead to press charge against Giwa.

Chief Kalu, in a letter to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, had said his letterhead was never forged and that he had not at anytime lodged any complaint to the police about forgery of his document.

Professor Kalu, in a letter dated May 30, 2025, addressed to the Inspector General of Police, clarified that he neither filed a complaint nor reported Mr. Giwa for allegedly forging his firm’s letterhead

The trial judge, Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie, adjourned the case till February 17′, 2026 for the argument of other pending motions

Wike Isn’t APC, Yet Works With Tinubu Administration – Ajibola Clarifies

0

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is employed by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, according to Ajibola Basiru, National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress.

Wike works for Tinubu’s APC-led federal administration, despite not being an APC member, Basiru explained.

In an appearance on TVC’s Beyond The Headlines, Basiru said that the party’s victory in the most recent FCT local government elections was largely due to the degree of infrastructure improvement that has been seen throughout the Federal Capital Territory over the previous two and a half years.

He described the minister’s achievement as “sterling” and pointed out that the gains were seen in both suburban and urban areas.

Basiru continued by saying that the APC’s electoral success in the FCT was largely due to the minister’s administrative work, the party’s strategic involvement, and the cautious selection of candidates with solid political backgrounds from other parties.

According to him, the party’s electoral success and the efficient distribution of democratic dividends under the current FCT government are inextricably linked.

“Wike is not a member of our party, but he works for an APC government headed by Tinubu,” Basiru claims.

“When you observe the enormous infrastructure development that has taken place in the FCT, both in the suburbs and the cities.

“Over the course of the last two and a half years, you will find that the FCT Minister’s outstanding performance, our party’s engagement, and the careful selection of candidates with stellar backgrounds from various political parties have all contributed to the APC’s victory in the FCT local government elections.

“Therefore, you cannot exclude the triumph of our party in that election from the efficient administrative deployment of the benefits of democracy in the FCT under the current FCT administration.”

APC Forum Charges Tinubu With Delivering Transparent National Convention

0

President Bola Tinubu has been encouraged by the North-Central APC Forum to make sure that the party elects genuine national offices ahead of the All Progressives Congress, or APC, national convention.

It is planned that the APC national conference will take place from March 27 to 28, 2026. At the convention, national officers of the party will be chosen to form the National Working Committee (NWC).

The North-Central APC Forum, however, stated in a statement signed by its chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, on Thursday that it is essential that the party start discussions to choose eminent individuals with experience and track records to occupy all NWC posts, including national chairman.

In order to guarantee that only those with the necessary qualifications are chosen at the convention to lead the APC’s operations, the Forum urged Tinubu to lead a “vetting process.”

“A proper APC national chairman should be somebody whose age accords him the status of a statesman, not an inexperienced fellow who has not acquired the experience to manage the affairs of a political party with so many prominent, distinguished personalities,” the Forum states.

Having competent leadership to manage the party’s business is now a must due to the APC’s explosive development after a number of opposition governors switched to the party with their structures.

President Bola Tinubu is being urged by the North-Central All Progressives Congress, APC, Forum to make sure that the party elects a trustworthy national leadership at the upcoming national convention.

Since the APC has many well-known politicians who have served and are currently serving at the highest levels of government, we think this goal is crucial. We think it should be unavoidable to elect the greatest candidates from such a prestigious pool of political leaders.

“We implore Mr. President to lead the screening procedure that will guarantee that the appropriate individuals are elected as our party’s national officers since there should be no justification for not doing it correctly at the national convention.

“A credible APC leadership should be made up of notable individuals who possess the necessary attributes, such as age, prior leadership experience, track record, national acceptability, extensive and efficient network, and resources.”

“We implore Mr. President to make sure that legitimate candidates are chosen to fill every post in the National Working Committee, or NWC. According to the statement, “We don’t want people who will commercialize the party by looking out for their personal interests.”

The party’s national leader should not be chosen primarily based on academic credentials, the APC Forum emphasized. According to the North-Central APC Forum, political discernment and ability are more crucial attributes.

The Forum insisted on competence, stating that anyone who had previously failed to deliver their local governments, wards, and polling places for the party should not be taken into consideration.

According to the APC Forum, religious sentiment should also be abandoned.

“Leading APC is not about having a long academic background or using proper grammar. We are urging Mr. President to ensure that only those with a track record of success, who are of the appropriate age and experience, are chosen to serve as APC national officers. It all comes down to the ability to deliver.

Additionally, we recommend that the national chairman of the APC be elected at the national convention without regard to religious beliefs. Given that Nigeria is a secular society, it is crucial that the national chairman of the APC not be someone who is known to have strong religious beliefs or who believes he is speaking for Christians, Muslims, or followers of traditional religions.

“Mr. President, please make sure that the national chairman does not prioritize religion. The statement said, “The national chairman should be someone who is not sectional, who identifies with people of all faiths and ethnicities, and who will put Nigeria’s interests above all.”

Natasha Decries Exclusion From Senate Proceedings, Demands Equal Treatment

0

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, has bemoaned the apparent exclusion from Senate proceedings.

According to reports, Natasha accused Committee Chairman Ireti Kingibe of excluding her from various committee events during her remarks during the Committee on Women Affairs’ budget defense.

The member expressed worry over an invitation to attend the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) event in New York, citing the low number of women in the Senate.

Natasha said that after being apprised of the invitation, she was instructed to submit her passport for processing.

The senator claims that even though she replied within three hours, the Ministry of Women’s Affairs later informed her that her tardiness prevented her from attending.

Natasha emphasized her disconnection from the process by questioning the lack of cooperation and coordination among female senators over a major international women’s event.

She remarked, “I only found out about the event yesterday at 1:00 pm, and I replied with my passport right away. Even though I replied right away, I was later informed that I had come too late and would not be going.

“I shouldn’t receive different treatment than other women, especially when it comes to an event that aims to improve the lives of women.”
