Ogun woos subscribers for PMB Estate

0

The Ogun State Government has announced that over 100 units of detached and semi-detached duplexes are ready for subscription by members of the public at the President Muhammadu Buhari Estate in Abeokuta.

It also stated that plots of land are available for sale to individuals willing and ready to build their dream houses in the estate.

Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi, stated this on Friday while conducting over 100 Realtors and Estate Agents around the PMB Estate, along Kobape Road, Abeokuta.

Speaking further on what subscribers stand to gain in the estate, Omoniyi said that apart from being built on virgin land with great scenery, the estate would feature a shopping mall, perimeter fence and gatehouse, children’s playground, recreational centre, and other facilities comparable to those in major estates around the world.

He said, “This estate is going to be top-notch. It will have facilities that can be compared to first-class estates worldwide. It will have adequate security, a mall, a recreational centre, a playground for children, and other facilities that will make living in this estate a pleasurable experience.

“As you can see, the buildings are constructed with the best materials available anywhere in the country. The buildings are of modern design with ample space. We are building this estate for those who want to live in a quiet environment devoid of the hustle and bustle of the cities and for Nigerians in the Diaspora who want to enjoy the same environment they are used to overseas.”

The commissioner added that the estate is strategically located close to the OgunTechHub, the State Judiciary Complex, a five-minute drive to the Governor’s Office, and 50 minutes to Lagos State. He assured that subscribers, upon full payment, would be given all their title documents.

Jagunmolu Omoniyi stated that the success recorded so far, especially with the Ibara Regeneration Scheme, informed the need for the government to also develop the PMB Estate to make more houses available to the people.

He maintained that the tour aimed to sensitize the housing market through the gathering of more than 100 Realtors and Estate Agents on the facilities being put in place to transform the once-abandoned project into one of the best estates in the country.

He noted that the PMB Estate, started by the past administration, was conceptualised as a site-and-service project with over 500 hectares of land, adding that the state government is currently developing the first cluster of over 50 hectares.

The commissioner further disclosed that the more than 100 buildings, made up of detached and semi-detached duplexes, were being constructed to demonstrate what the state government is capable of achieving.

Omoniyi lamented that despite its huge potential, the PMB Estate was lying fallow with many unfinished and vandalized infrastructures, but has now been transformed into a city of great value for the people of the state and Nigerians in the Diaspora who desire to live and work in the state.

The commissioner emphasised that the Dapo Abiodun-led administration operates an inclusive policy on housing delivery as all segments of the populace in the state have been taken into consideration.

According to him, the present administration, in the last four years, has provided affordable houses to all categories of people, ranging from low to medium and high-income earners. He added that the government desires to ensure that all citizens in the state have a roof over their heads.

He said, “This is the only state that has, within the first four years of its inception, constructed over 4,000 affordable homes in all three Senatorial Districts across the state. Ogun State is the only state that has provided truly affordable houses that are not beyond the reach of the people.

“Our low-income houses go for between N10 million and N15 million, medium-income goes for about N70 million, while the high-income goes for about N175 million. With this, we have engaged over 50,000 artisans through direct labour and turned several unknown villages into smart cities.”

Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on the Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation, Farooq Adenugba, said that Cluster 1 in the estate, currently being developed, is provided with facilities like a gatehouse, service building, children’s park, clubhouse, street lights, and a standard drainage system, describing it as “an estate of valleys and hills.”

Adenugba emphasised that the buildings are of high quality and could be compared with the best anywhere in the world.

He stated that the fully detached and semi-detached duplexes are provided with boys’ quarters, just as the fully detached duplexes sit on 900 square metres and the semi-detached duplexes on 500 square metres of land.

While assuring subscribers of getting the right value for their money, Adenugba added that the choice of housing units is strategically located, while each cluster would be fenced to provide the needed security for occupants.

A property practitioner and builder, Mr. Babatunde Denton, while fielding questions from newsmen after the tour of the estate, applauded the state government for siting the project at a strategic location to showcase the state, adding that with the standard of infrastructure and facilities available, the PMB Estate is poised to be a prime estate in the future.

The General Secretary of the Real Estate Developers’ Association of Nigeria, Ogun State chapter, Mr. Ojikutu Olusola, commended the state government for ensuring that quality materials were used in the construction of the buildings, noting that with the government’s involvement in the projects, buyers would have peace of mind after purchasing the properties.

EndBadGovernance: Tinubu has not done well – Dele Momodu

Ovation publisher, Dele Momodu, has hit out at conspiracy theories over the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests around Nigeria.
In a tweet on Friday, Momodu insisted that “nobody instigated anyone or anything.”
The media guru also absolved the Igbo of any blame during his conversation with a ‘Tinubu apologist.’
Momodu wrote: “This unfortunate conspiracy theory was forwarded to me this morning by a Tinubu apologist. Here’s my response: It is all a cheap blackmail. The people are hungry while government is living large.
“The Igbo are largely traders. They look after their own globally. Nobody instigated anyone or anything.
“You guys should accept the reality that Tinubu has not done very well. Leave the Igbo out of your excuses. To ethnicise the protests is to be disingenuous…”

Biden hails Kamala Harris emergence as Democratic candidate

0

The President of the United States of America has hailed the emergence Vice President Kamala Harris Democratic party’s presidential nomination.

Harris effectively secured the Democratic party’s presidential nomination Friday, confirming her remarkable rise to party standard bearer in November’s showdown against Republican Donald Trump.

Harris, 59, was the sole candidate on the ballot for a five-day electronic vote of nearly 4,000 party convention delegates. The first Black and South Asian woman ever to secure a major party’s nomination, she will be officially crowned at a Chicago convention later this month.

“I am honored to be the presumptive Democratic nominee for president of the United States,” Harris said on a phone-in to a party celebration after securing enough votes by the second day of the marathon virtual vote.

In the two weeks since Joe Biden ended his reelection bid, Harris has gained full control of the party, smashing fundraising records, packing arenas and erasing the polling leads Trump had built over the president.

“I couldn’t be prouder,” Biden posted on X after her nomination.

The nomination milestone came with Harris preparing to hit the campaign trail next week for a swing across seven crucial election states alongside her yet-to-be-named running mate.

The Democratic Party decided on a virtual nomination process — departing with tradition and mirroring the procedure used in the pandemic-hit 2020 election — because of an early deadline in Ohio for submitting the names of certified candidates.

The virtual roll call marks the official beginning of the 2024 convention, with the more traditional festivities getting going when thousands of party faithful descend on Chicago on August 19.

The gathering will feature a ceremonial vote for Harris in what is expected to be a raucous celebration of her rise from California prosecutor to historic candidate vying for the nation’s highest office.

Trump’s White House bid was turned upside down on July 21 when 81-year-old Biden, facing growing concerns about his age and lagging polling numbers, withdrew his candidacy and backed Harris.

– Wave of momentum –

Energetic and two decades younger than 78-year-old Trump, the vice president has made a fast start, raising $310 million in July, according to her campaign — more than double Trump’s haul.

She and her running mate are scheduled to rally Tuesday in Pennsylvania — a crucial swing state, where Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro is on the shortlist to join Harris’s ticket.

Biden beat Trump in Pennsylvania in 2020 by around 80,000 votes and it is seen as the biggest prize of the closely fought battlegrounds that decide the Electoral College system.

The Keystone State is part of the so-called blue wall that carried Biden to victory in 2020, alongside Michigan and Wisconsin, two states where Harris is due to woo crowds on Wednesday.

Harris will also tour the more racially diverse Sun Belt and southern states of Georgia, North Carolina Arizona, North Carolina and Nevada as she seeks to shore up the Black and Hispanic vote that had been peeling away from the Democrats.

In a sign that the Harris campaign is thinking big, US media reported that a raft of senior advisors from Barack Obama’s own historic candidacies in 2008 and 2012 have taken up top positions with her.

Where the now defunct Biden reelection campaign made high-minded appeals to the nation’s founding principles, Harris’s messaging has focused on the future, repositioning the race as a battle for “freedom” rather than the less tangible “democracy” that the president emphasized.

She and her allies have also been more aggressive than the Biden camp — mocking Trump for reneging on his commitment to a September debate and characterizing the convicted felon as an elderly crook and “weird.”

“Some days I feel sorry for Republicans, because they’ve got to figure out how to run a criminal against a prosecutor,” Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock said at Harris’s Atlanta event.

On the detail, however, Harris has been tight-lipped.

While she has disavowed some of the leftist positions she took during her ill-fated 2020 primary campaign, she hasn’t given a wide-ranging interview since jumping into the race, meaning voters have no clear picture of her overall vision.

Meanwhile Trump and his Republicans have struggled to adapt to their new adversary or hone their attacks against Harris — at first messaging that she was dangerously liberal on immigration and crime before pivoting to accusing her falsely of pretending to be Black for political purposes.

Video of me protesting, shocking, says Kingibe

0

The Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Ireti Kingibe, has expressed shock and disbelief over a misleading viral video that allegedly shows her and the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, leading protests in Abuja on Thursday.

Describing the video as a malicious and deliberate effort to discredit her and Obi, Kingibe on Friday said, “I am shocked and outraged by the blatant lies and misinformation being spread by mischief-makers!

“The video being circulated is from over six weeks ago, during a Labour Party NWC meeting when the NLC was protesting outside the Labour Party office.

“As stakeholders, including Sen House of Reps members, and Mr. Peter Obi, we went out to engage with the protesters and address their concerns. Now, these deceitful individuals are trying to pass off this old footage as current, claiming that Peter Obi and I were leading protests in Abuja yesterday. This is a malicious and desperate attempt to discredit us.”

She added. “Let me set the record straight, Mr Peter Obi is not in Abuja, and I haven’t left my house since Wednesday due to illness, much less distributed food and water at the protest grounds, though that would be noble for whoever did.

“I condemn this orchestrated attempt to spread falsehoods and cause confusion, using it as the basis to claim I sponsored the Abuja protest. It is a shameless and irresponsible act that will not be tolerated. We will not stand idly by while our names and reputations are dragged through the mud by these unscrupulous individuals.”

Recall that Obi also debunked the claim.

He explained that he was in his home state, Anambra and as such, could not be in Abuja and Anambra simultaneously.

Justin Timberlake pleads not guilty to drunk driving charge

0

Pop singer Justin Timberlake pleaded not guilty on Friday to driving while intoxicated in a virtual appearance before a judge who ordered that his driver’s license be suspended in New York state, US media reported.

On June 18, the 43-year-old entertainer was pulled over in the town of Sag Harbor, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) east of New York City, after police observed his BMW go through a stop sign and struggle to stay within road lanes.

The officer who pulled over the “Cry Me a River” singer said he was in no fit state to drive.

“His eyes were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath, he was unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot, and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests,” the police report said.

Justin Timberlake appeared on a video link from Antwerp in Belgium, where he was on tour to promote his latest album.

During the hearing, Judge Carl Irace ordered that Timberlake’s right to drive in New York state be suspended, which the star’s lawyer Edward Burke told reporters would last for the duration of the case.

Burke again insisted that the “SexyBack” performer was not drunk when he was stopped, and had consumed just one martini before he was pulled over.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for August 9. Timberlake is not required to attend.
