The 33 council chairmen in Oyo State have pulled out of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) over the Supreme Court’s judgment granting fiscal autonomy to local governments across the country.
In a communiqué, the chairmen unanimously declared their support for Governor Seyi Makinde.
The state ALGON’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Akintayo, described the chairmen’s stance as solidarity with Governor Makinde’s recent stand on local government autonomy as ruled by the apex court.
They attributed their loyalty to Makinde for his exemplary leadership and unrivaled achievements since his assumption of office.
TVN recalls that Governor Makinde, during a meeting with some stakeholders after the court ruling, constituted committees to review the apex court’s ruling on local government autonomy.
“I called this meeting because I felt that even though we have not seen the Certified True Copy of the judgment of the Supreme Court, we have to be proactive and discuss the decision of the Supreme Court as it concerns the financial autonomy of the local government councils because I believe a lacuna has been created between the decision and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that we all swore to uphold.
“The law is the law, and when there is a conflict, yes, we should go to court. But it behooves us to look for our own home-grown solutions that can ensure we have transparency and that our people do not suffer. This is because when two elephants are fighting, it is the grass that will suffer,” the governor stated.

“Annual inflation is falling,” Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek said on the social media platform X.
“We continue to get positive results in all areas of our programme, whose main objective is disinflation,” he said.
“The decrease in inflation will be felt more in the coming period.”
The central bank began raising interest rates to battle inflation last year after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan dropped his opposition to orthodox monetary policy.
The bank kept borrowing costs unchanged at 50 per cent for a fourth consecutive month in July.
Inflation traditionally eases during summer in Turkey, as energy consumption falls and tourism brings in foreign currencies.
While the annual inflation rate eased in July, it rose by 3.23 per cent compared to June. It had increased by 1.64 per cent every month in June.
Education, housing, health, hotels, and restaurants saw the biggest price increases.

Paul Okoye blasts APC chieftain, Joe Igbokwe over comments on rift with twin brother
Paul Okoye, one half of the music group, P Square, fired back at the All Progressives Congress ( APC) chieftain, Joe Igbokwe over his comments about the brewing rift between the singer and his brother, Peter.
Igbokwe had in a post on social media, asked elders in the singers’ family to settle the rift between the brothers.
He added that it was shameful that the twin brothers cannot work together, love and trust each other.
Igbokwe wrote; ‘‘So shameful that two twin brothers Paul and Peter cannot work together, cannot love one another, they cannot trust each other, they cannot think together, they cannot reason together, they cannot forgive each other and they cannot manage their wives.

“They cannot manage their success story, they cannot control their emotions, they cannot manage their internal contradictions, even their wives could not help matters, what about their parents, their brothers and sisters, their Nnaochie? etc.

In a post on his Instagram page, Paul lambasted Igbokwe and called on him to focus on the suffering of Nigerians instead of commenting on the problems he has with his twin brother.
He wrote: ‘‘JOE IGBOKWE… Your papa.
‘‘Elder way mumu!! Focus on the country way you put mouth scatter!! People are hungry!!
