Kaduna LP declares support for Abure

0

The Labour Party in Kaduna State has affirmed its support for the National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure.

In a statement signed and released by the LP’s State Chairman on Friday, alongside his Deputy, Secretary, and the Chairman of Chikun Local Government, Auwal Tafoki, Bulus Maisamari, Peter Hassan, and Yerima Abraham, the party warned members against any anti-party activities capable of causing discord among members.

The party alleged that some “selfish individuals and a suspended member of the party are trying everything possible to manipulate party affairs using their influence.”

The party, therefore, urged supporters to remain committed to the LP’s ideals and leadership ahead of the forthcoming Local Government Elections in Kaduna State.

Tafoki further stressed that the 23 LG Chairmen of the
LP in Kaduna State are firmly behind Barrister Abure’s leadership, which they believe has the potential to advance the party’s goals, not just for the party but as an initiative that can fulfil the yearnings and aspirations of the Nigerian people in the 2027 general elections.

“The Labour Party Chairman in Kaduna State, along with the 23 Local Government Area Councils, on 29th August 2024, passed a vote of confidence in the embattled National Chairman of our party, Barrister Julius Abure.

This affirmation is intended to encourage them to remain steadfast in discharging their party’s constitutional responsibilities and not to be swayed by unscrupulous elements on a mission to destroy the Labour Party in Kaduna State and Nigeria at large.”

“For the record, it is important to note that the Labour Party does not have any faction in Kaduna State. We are one family, united under an indivisible body, resolute and determined to make a mark in the state, even as Nigerian youths and the elderly believe in our party’s ideology to birth a new Nigeria, Peter Obi.

“Meanwhile, we cannot ignore the fact that some selfish individuals who contested elections under the party in 2023 are trying everything possible to control the party in Kaduna State. This is an attempt in which they have already failed woefully.”

“At present, the Labour Party in Kaduna State, without any distractions, is primarily focused on the forthcoming Local Government Elections, slated for October this year. We have submitted the names of our candidates to the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (Kad-SIECOM), and we are optimistic about our chances of winning major seats in the elections. Therefore, distraction at this moment is not an option.”

“Additionally, we call on the Executive Governor of Abia State, Governor Alex Otti, to use his office to unite the party… By doing so, the Labour Party can become a force to reckon with, not only in Kaduna State but across the entire nation,” the statement added.

Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Oredo local government area of Edo State switched to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday.
The defectors who were from Ward 1 of Oredo LGA were led by Sidney Egede, an APC chieftain in the area.
They were received into PDP by the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwole Uzzi.
Uzzi commended the defectors for making the bold decision to dump the APC for PDP ahead of the September 21 governorship election in the state.
According to him, the defection will further boost the chances of the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, in the election.
The commissioner described Ighodalo and his running mate, Osarodion Ogie, as the most qualified candidates to succeed Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Uzzi urged the people of Oredo to reciprocate Obaseki’s magnanimity of appointing two persons from the ward into his cabinet.
He said: “Those tagging Governor Obaseki as ignorant and bereft of ideas are the ones bereft of ideas. We grew together in this ward.
“While Governor Obaseki grew up in the College area, I grew up in the Jemide area. Those who call the governor a Lagos boy do not know what they are saying.”
On his part, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, said the political dominance of APC in the ward has ended.
Osagie said Egede and other’s defection to PDP was a major boost to the party in the locality.
