Five die in Osun road accident

0

Osun State Fire Service on Friday said five lives were lost in the fatal accident involving a gas tanker and a commercial bus that occured in Ile-Ife, Osun state.

The According to had earlier reported that many commuters were trapped in the accident, which happened along Ife/Ibadan Expressway on Thursday.

The spokesman for Osun Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kehinde Adeleke, whose agency was among the first security agencies to arrive at the scene, said about 17 people were in the bus when the accident occurred.

However, while providing an update regarding the accident on Friday, the spokesman for Osun State Fire Service, Ibrahim Adekunle, said five passengers, two male, two females and a toddler, were bought out of the wreckage dead.

According to him, the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife.

The statement partly read, “On Thursday, September 12, 2024 as a gas tanker overran a commercial bus popularly known as ‘Sabo-Lagere’ which conveyed an unspecified number of passengers and crushed them to death. They both swerved off the road into a ditch along Ibadan Express Road, Ajebandele, Ile-Ife.

“The incident was reported to our Ile-Ife Zonal Command at around 12 noon and they mobilised to the scene and joined the headquarters from Abere to give adequate backup because of the nature of materials involved in the crash (LPG).

“After frantic efforts by the men of the State Fire Service in conjunction with FRSC Ile-Ife Zonal Command led by SRC Kenny Olorundare and some local residents, five passengers were recovered from the wreckage which comprises two men and women each and a toddler. They are subsequently conveyed to the OAU Teaching Hospital morgue.”

Describing the incident as unfortunate and avoidable, the Director of Osun State Fire Service, Mr. Ismail Olaniyi, sympathised with families of the deceased, and Ile-Ife community.

Gas explosion claims lives of Patoranking’s sister, brother-in-law

0

The Police Command in Ebonyi has confirmed that the explosion that claimed the lives of Mr and Mrs George Onuabuchi in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, was caused by a gas cylinder and not an inverter battery.

Deputy Superintendent of Police and spokesperson for the Command, Joshua Ukandu, informed the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday that the incident occurred on 25 August.

Ukandu stated that a preliminary investigation revealed the couple died as a result of a gas explosion.

“It happened in the Waterworks area of Abakaliki on 25 August. Residents living nearby alerted our personnel, who visited the scene, but the couple had already been taken to the hospital.

“Unfortunately, both have now passed away. The wife, Chioma, died in August, while the husband passed away this month, in September.

“We gathered that the wife was the younger sister of popular Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Patoranking.

“There aren’t many details available, as the victims did not survive to share their account of the event. The cause of death was a gas explosion, not an inverter explosion,” Ukandu clarified.

A relative, who chose to remain anonymous, also spoke with NAN, describing the incident as a tragic loss for the family.
“They were a young couple. They had only one child, a three-year-old son.

“I can’t say more than this. They’re gone,” the relative said.

APC chairmen endorse Ganduje, say Wike added value to Tinubu’s Govt

0

The national chairman of the party, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and his counterpart from Rivers state, Tony Okocha, have been praised by the chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in each of the 36 states of the union and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for maintaining stability within the party.

The APC State Chairmen Forum also praised Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, for his excellent work that has improved President Bola Tinubu’s government during the past year.

Prior to submitting a letter of recommendation to the national chairman, the forum, led by Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, its chairman, and Alphonsus Ogar Eba, its secretary, expressed their positions yesterday at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.

Speaking on behalf of the group, APC Rivers State Executive Committee chairman and secretary Eba of Cross River State praised Ganduje for his unwavering support of the decision made by the committee to suspend Emeka Beke, the former executive, and to further restrain him by the Rivers State High Court.

He said the meeting also recognized Wike as a performing minister of the Tinunu-led Federal Executive Council, praising his efforts in the areas of significant FCT infrastructure development, security measures, and human capital development.

“The democratic ethos of the party and the success of our APC-led administration, led by President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his dependable Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, are among the issues that the Forum of All Progressives Congress (APC) States Chairmen met to discuss yesterday.”This press conference will be followed by a letter of appreciation to our esteemed party’s national chairman for his unwavering support of the APC Rivers State Executive Committee’s decision to suspend Chief Emeka Beke, the former executive, and for his subsequent restrictions by the Rivers State High Court.

“For those who are blind or deaf, the past seven months have seen the active, resilient, and vibrant Rivers State APC Chapter thanks to the activities of Chief Tony Okocha’s executives. Additionally, the doldrums, docility, and chicanery that once characterized the APC’s political landscape in Rivers State before the 2023 general election have been revitalized by Chief Tony Okocha’s dynamic leadership.”

In order to strengthen our democratic ethos, foster unity, and bring long-lasting peace to every chapter of our party where there are unresolved issues, we as a Forum have therefore decided to unite in our praise of the National Working Committee’s decision in this regard, even as we commit to continuing our dialogue with them.

As a performing minister of the President Asiwaju-led Federal Executive Council, whose efforts are evident in every aspect, the Forum also singled out His Excellency Nyesom Wike. We greatly appreciate his enormous contributions to the FCT’s infrastructure development, security measures, human capital development, etc.

“With his unique and outstanding performance in his role as Honorable Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Forum would like to take this opportunity to congratulate him and to convey our sincere gratitude and solidarity.” The Forum will always be grateful to all those who support the party’s expansion and President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s successful government,” Eba continued.

PDP suspends Dino Melaye for anti-party activities

0

The Peoples Democratic Party has suspended one of its prominent members, Senator Dino Melaye over alleged anti-party activities.

According to a letter cited by Punch Online on Friday, the suspension was made by the ward party executive committee in Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1 after reviewing the report of the disciplinary committee set up to investigate Melaye’s actions.

It appears that Melaye’s recent actions were deemed detrimental to the PDP’s interests and unity, prompting the suspension.

This move is not unprecedented, as the PDP has taken similar actions against other members accused of anti-party activities. For instance, Peter Babalola, a chieftain from Osun, was suspended in August 2024 for alleged anti-party activities and not attending party meetings for two years.

In another instance, former Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, was also suspended by the Benue PDP over alleged anti-party activities.

Similarly, Senator Gabriel Suswam and others were summoned by the Benue PDP over alleged gross misconduct and anti-party activities.

These actions demonstrate the PDP’s commitment to maintaining party discipline and unity. However, details of Melaye’s suspension are still emerging, and more information is expected to follow.

The resolution to suspend the Senator read,
“Senator Dino Melaye’s conduct has brought embarrassment and disrepute to the party and his continued membership is no longer tenable.

“Therefore, the Ward party exco hereby suspends Dino Melaye from the Peoples Democratic party, effective and immediately.

“The suspension is in line with provisions of Article 59 (1) of the PDP constitution which empowers the Ward party excos to take disciplinary actions against erring members.”

CBN orders payment providers to track all PoS transactions

0

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), on behalf of all Payment Service Providers, has directed them to route all Point of Sale (PoS) transactions—whether at physical or virtual merchant and agent locations—through a Payment Terminal Service Aggregator that has been approved by the CBN.

Additionally, CBN set a 30-day deadline for service providers to adhere to the updated routing specifications for Point of Sale transactions.

All PoS transactions from merchant and agent locations must now be routed through any PTSA licensed by the CBN, according to a circular issued by the central bank and signed by Oladimeji Yisa Taiwo on behalf of the CBN’s Payments System Management Department on Thursday.

In response to concerns regarding the centralization of these transactions under a single body, this action attempts to decentralize PoS transaction routing and enhance the monitoring of electronic transactions throughout Nigeria.

“In August 2011, the Central Bank of Nigeria awarded Nigeria Interbank Settlement System Plc a Payment Terminal Service Aggregator license with the goal of tracking electronic transactions in the country. To this end, the CBN hereby instructs acquirers to use any CBN-licensed Payment Terminal Service Aggregator for all transactions from PoS terminals at merchant and agent locations, regardless of whether the terminals are electronic or physical.

In the circular, it was stated that “PTSAs are required to send PoS transactions to only processors certified by the relevant Payment Scheme, nominated by the Acquirer, and licensed by the CBN.”
This happened after the time for PoS agents to legally register their firms with the Corporate Affairs Commission expired on September 5th.

The CAC recently declared that it has started taking severe measures, including closing down PoS enterprises that neglected to register, despite the mandate being contested in court.

The CBN’s intentions to forbid trading in cryptocurrencies or virtual money are coupled with the order on PoS company registration, which was issued in the wake of numerous fraud occurrences utilizing PoS terminals.

Opposition fears violence as PDP shuns peace accord

0

The Peoples Democratic Party’s decision on Thursday not to sign the peace accord ahead of the Edo State governorship election September 21 has sparked reactions and concern in the state, ahead of the poll, The According reports.

Of the 17 political parties contesting the poll, 16 signed the treaty, with the ruling PDP the only party which declined to be part of the agreement.

This comes as  INEC begins the distribution of Permanent Voter Card today. The three-day exercise ends on Sunday, according to the electoral body.

The state PDP chairman, Anthony Aziegbemi, and its governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, were present at the peace accord signing but stoutly declined to follow suit.

Aziegbemi hinged their action on the alleged arrest of 10 PDP members currently detained by the police in Abuja.

He said, “We are here to register our protest before the peace committee and to say that the PDP will not sign a peace accord when 10 of our members have been arrested and detained by the Police in Abuja.”

His disapproval comes in the wake of a denial by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who announced at a stakeholders’ meeting on Wednesday that he was not aware of the development.

INEC concern

However, The Chief Press Secretary to the Independent National Electoral Committee chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, in an interview with The According expressed worry that the PDP shunned the accord, which he said was geared towards ensuring a peaceful, free and fair governorship election in Edo State.

He said, “It is unfortunate that the PDP decided not to sign the accord. But they can still do so. We appeal to them to have a change of heart and sign the accord, which is geared towards ensuring a peaceful, free and fair governorship election in Edo State.

“We don’t have any fear as a commission because first, we know that Edo people are peace-loving. Secondly, security agencies have assured us (INEC) that they will not allow any form of violence. However, we are concerned that the PDP is not in the fold as far as the peace accord is concerned,” Oyekanmi added.

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, hinted on Wednesday that the PDP might not sign the Peace Accord, expressing concern that the police, under the influence of the APC, had arrested no fewer than 10 PDP chieftains perceived as strong political opponents, including the serving Chairman, Esan West Local Government Area, Collins Aigbogun, who was arrested and taken to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Remarkably, the APC had also threatened to pull out of the accord.

The state APC chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, who stated this at a press conference on Thursday morning, said the inability of the police to arrest members of other parties responsible for attack on their members, informed the decision.

In a statement, Tenebe said, “It has become imperative for our party, the All Progressives Congress to tell Nigerians why we are not predisposed to be a signatory to Peace Accord.

First, two months ago, the then Edo State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, told Nigerians that the command had the names of those who murdered Inspector Onuh Akor at the Benin airport. Inspector Akor was shot by members of Edo State Security Network when they unleashed mayhem on APC supporters, who were at the airport to receive the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, who was with the APC governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo while returning from Abuja.

“It is saddening to note that for more than two months since this ugly incident took place, the police are still unable to arrest and prosecute those that have been identified to be involved in the callout and unprovoked attack, as Governor Obaseki, who professed and proclaimed that he is the Chief Security Officer of the state, has warehoused these callous and notable hoodlums in Government House.”

Remarkably, few hours to the peace pact, the state chapter of the APC had also threatened to pull out.

The state APC chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, who stated this at a press conference on Thursday morning, said the inability of the police to arrest members of other parties responsible for attacks on their members informed the decision.

However, the APC, after signing the accord, said the PDP’s refusal to sign confirmed the APC’s position that the party had plans to derail the election.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie, said, “Our concern has been confirmed. Any political party that does not sign the peace accord, what this portends is that that party does not mean well for the state.

“If the PDP, the ruling party in the state, which has the Chief Security Officer and the leader of the party, refused to sign, it means they have plans to derail the process of the election.

“We are happy that all that happened in the presence of the police, who have the apparatus to checkmate their excesses. We challenge the police to be above board and be alive to their duties, that is to ensure that the election is conducted peacefully even though there are signals that the PDP is trying to suffocate the people who are determined to vote them out of government.

“We are not deterred by their action, we have told our people to be peace-loving, play according to the rules and we are campaigning till the last day authorised by the law. We are ready to ensure that a peaceful environment is created for the peaceful conduct of the election on September 21. The PDP are not the owners of the state and I am sure the police are ready to take care of any infraction on Election Day.

The Public Relations Officer of the Labour Party, Sam Uruopa, said his party was also worried over the issue because the refusal to sign the accord could put the state in panic mood “due to the violence that the APC and PDP have visited on themselves.”

Uruopa said, “So, if any of them is refusing to sign the peace accord, it goes to show that there is more violence in the offing. They visited violence on us during the House of Assembly and local government elections in the state and that should no longer be tolerated.

“We have it on good authority that they have mobilised thugs and armed men in places they are not popular. They are also aware that the people are not with them.

“We are also worried because we hear that uniforms have been procured to give to their thugs to pretend as security operatives. For them to refuse to sign the peace accord shows that they are up to something sinister.”

PDP give conditions

The state PDP chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, in a protest letter to the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said the state REC, Prof. Anugbum Onuoha, should be redeployed –  saying he is the cousin of the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike – along with the state Commissioner of Police Nemo Edwin-Iwo, ahead of the September 21 governorship election.

He added, “The said Edo REC also served as a Commissioner and Special Adviser for Lands, Survey and Housing to Minister of FCT, Mr Wike, during his tenure as Rivers State Governor

“With the antecedents between these two, we are not comfortable that the Edo REC will conduct himself creditably before, during and after the election.

“We are therefore requesting the redeployment of the Edo REC as we are not confident that he will be fair, just and equitable in the conduct of the election because of his close relationship with Mr Wike. “Also, we would like to bring to your notice that the recruitment of the Supervising Presiding Officers for the forthcoming election may have been compromised.  We have it on good authority that in the recruitment process for the SPOs, non-commissioned staff members with fake Ministry, Department and Agencies (MDAs) identity cards were given special consideration above actual INEC and MDA staff members.”

In another letter to the Chairman, Peace and Reconciliation Committee, General Abdulsalam Abubakar (retd), Aziegbemi said their party members were either arrested or harassed, which did not present a level playing ground for the election.

He called for the immediate and unconditional release/production of all persons currently in unlawful custody or all the persons, if alleged to have committed any crime, should be immediately brought before a court of competent jurisdiction in compliance with constitutional processes.

He added, “We also call for the immediate redeployment of the current Edo State Commissioner of Police (Nemo Edwin-Iwo), the current Resident Electoral Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission and their replacement with persons who can exhibit fairness and balance in the performance of their functions and who do not have any links to the contending parties or vested interests in the process.

“(We also call for) the immediate recall of any external Police Team/Squad from Abuja or any other location in Nigeria currently marauding in Edo State, illegally arresting perceived political opponents and creating undue tension in the state, an undertaking and commitment by the Nigeria Police and INEC to operate a level playing field without allowing themselves to become a private army at the behest of one of the contending parties.

“We wish to state that our party and our candidates have the utmost confidence in the goodwill and peace-loving nature of the Edo people and we are willing to submit ourselves to their democratic choice under a free, fair and untainted process.”

Also, at a conference in Abuja shortly after the PDP National Working Committee meeting on Thursday, the PDP acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, vowed that party members would defend their votes with blood and explained that they did not sign the National Peace Committee’s accord due to concerns about the APC-led administration.

Damagum urged IGP Egbetokun and INEC chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu to ensure a smooth election in Edo State.

He added that their demands aimed to ensure a credible governorship election in Edo State and prevent a situation similar to the 2023 Adamawa State election, where REC and INEC officials faced life-threatening violence from an angry electorate.

“So, as regards the signing of the peace accord, nobody is shirking responsibility; rather, we are pointing out to Nigerians that there is something suspicious under this APC-led administration, with police being paid with taxpayers’ money.”

On if the party would participate in the election, Damagum added, “We are going to participate. We will come out, and we will defend our votes with our blood.

“Let them be very, very clear about that. We could not sign or be part of it because we gave a condition, and it is their responsibility to ensure that these conditions are met. If they arbitrarily arrest members of only one particular party, then that means there is something you do not know. So, what peace are we signing for?”

Damagum stressed that, for the elections to be free and fair, the IGP must uphold his responsibilities to the Nigerian people, adhere to the constitution and ensure peace and security in Edo State and across the nation.

He stated, “The IGP should immediately redeploy the Edo State Commissioner of Police CP Nemo Edwin-Iwo so as to guarantee confidence, peace and security during the Edo State governorship election. The IGP should immediately release all members of the PDP being detained by the Police.

“The IGP should desist from interfering in the activities of Edo State Security Corps, a body lawfully established under the law.

“The PDP demands that the INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, immediately redeploy the Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (Dr. Anugbum Onuoha from the state, especially now that people are already agitated against this obnoxious appointment.”

Damagum added, “Furthermore, the APC is attempting to infiltrate and compromise INEC by reportedly influencing the appointment of a known APC apologist and supporter, Dr Anugbum Onuoha, who is notorious for his partisan association with APC leaders, as the Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner.

“The appointment of this overtly partisan individual as Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner is completely unacceptable as he is susceptible to bias and manipulations by the APC and therefore not in a position to guarantee a transparent, free, fair and credible governorship election in Edo State.”

Abdulsalami olive branch

National Peace Committee boss Abdulsalami Abubakar, a former Head of State, noted that Governor Godwin Obaseki had on Wednesday raised the issues of police bias and set out conditions to be met by the police before PDP could sign the Peace Accord.

He said, “I expected Dr Aziegbemi to have stated that before the committee and political parties rather than his outright refusal to sign the accord. The PDP still have the opportunity of signing the peace accord by coming to Abuja to do so,” he added.

War of words

Meanwhile, the APC on Thursday said its governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, was halfway through to victory following the PDP and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo’s refusal to sign the peace accord.

The National Publicity Director of the ruling APC, Bala Ibrahim, in a phone chat with our correspondent, said he found the action of the PDP, which is presently in control of the state administration, condescending.

“Going by the submission, if there is a peace plan and someone comes to say he won’t commit himself in writing to the arrangement, one needs not to be a soothsayer to know that person is anti-peace. This is so, particularly when you look at the fact that the party is under the control of the party in rebellion,” Ibrahim said.

“I don’t see any reason the PDP should refuse to sign the peace accord. It is an indication the party knows it is going to lose the election and I use this opportunity to congratulate the APC and our peaceful candidate, Senator Okpebholo, in advance.”

However, Damagum asserted that Okpebholo stood no chance in the election and accused the APC of employing violence, manipulation, and police operatives to allegedly harass and detain innocent PDP members and supporters in Edo State.

He stated, “You will recall that the PDP had earlier raised the alarm on the reported activities of a terror squad going by the name, IGP response team, which, on the instruction of APC leaders are hounding, arresting and torturing members and supporters of the PDP especially those who recently decamped from the APC to the PDP.

“Reports reaching our party is that the said APC-controlled torture squad arresting and detaining our members is allegedly operating with the knowledge of the Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Nemo Edwin-Iwo.

“As I address you today (Thursday), no fewer than 16 of our members and supporters have been arrested in Edo State on trumped-up charges with some of them whisked to Abuja where they are detained and tortured. In the same vein no fewer than 15 others have been marked for arrest by the police on trumped-up charges.

“The intention of the APC in this sinister plot is to terrify the people of Edo State, prevent them from coming out to vote and seize the opportunity to manipulate and rig the election, a plot which is being firmly resisted by the people.”

INEC meets transporters

Following the recent surge in fuel prices, INEC is set to meet with transport unions on Friday (today)  in Benin City, the Edo State capital, to discuss logistics for the upcoming election, The According learnt.

Concerns had been raised about the availability and cost of transportation for the timely distribution of election materials such as ballot boxes, voting machines and other sensitive materials while INEC members of staff and security personnel, might face transportation issues.

Transport unions, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers and the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria, provide vehicles for INEC during elections.

Amid growing concern on whether the unions would be able to offer the same level of service, given the increased operational costs, INEC said it had fixed the meeting for today.

The meeting, which is scheduled to take place in Benin City, is part of INEC’s broader efforts to ensure the smooth conduct of the election by addressing potential logistical challenges.

INEC’s Chief Press Secretary, Rotimi Oyekanmi, confirmed the meeting on Thursday.

“We are meeting with the transport unions in Edo on Friday (today).”

Police arrest fake Inspector, killers of Rivers CDC chair neutralised

0

The Rivers State Police Command has said its men have arrested a fake Inspector who leads an armed robbery gang and neutralised four fleeing suspects involved in the January 2024 murder of a Community Development Committee Chairman of Mgboshimini in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

The police said the fake Inspector identified as Fred Monday armed with an AK-47 rifle was arrested by men of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit who responded to a report of a criminal operation at about 11:45 pm on August 9, 2024, in Luegbo Community in Khana Local Government Area of the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, disclosed this while parading the fake Inspector, other suspects and the recovered military gear to newsmen at a media briefing in the command’s headquarters in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

Disu, however, said when the operatives arrived at the supposed scene, they discovered that it was an initiation ceremony by students while the fake Inspector provided cover for them.

He stated, “On arriving at the scene, the police met with an ongoing gruesome cult initiation process. Five suspects, later found to be students of the Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic, were arrested.

“The students, Mduni Clement, Prosper Wonyingipreye, Kunle Joseph, Eken Evans and Isaiah Elisha, confessed to being members of the Vikings confraternity. They have been charged in court and are presently in a correctional centre.

“While carrying out the arrest of the five cultists, the police encountered a man with them, fully dressed in police camouflage and donning the rank of an Inspector of Police.

“He was armed with an AK-47 rifle, 10 magazines and 29 rounds of live ammunition. He was taken into custody and after interrogations, his identity was revealed as Fred Monday, a 31-year-old from Wiyakara Community in Khana LGA of Rivers State and resident at the F-man Close, Eneka Link Road, Port Harcourt.”

Disu added, “He confessed to being an Impostor who bought the rifle in 2021 for N850,000 from an accomplice, Goodluck aka Boy-J.

“He also bought 10 magazines, 31 rounds of ammunition, and two hand grenades from the same accomplice. He disclosed to the police how he and other gang members would disguise themselves as policemen to escort criminals to operate in different states, including Akwa Ibom, Edo, Delta and Rivers states.

“Fred Monday is a confessed member of the Iceland cult group and has been carrying out numerous crimes using the cover of being a policeman to terrorise his victims.

“He is also an armed robber who operated as a Keke (tricycle) rider during the day, scanning the area for possible victims to attack under the cover of night,” adding that operatives were hunting other fleeing gang members.

He said exhibits recovered from the suspect were one AK-47 rifle

10 magazines, 29 rounds of live ammunition.

In another development, the state police boss disclosed that operatives arrested four suspects linked to a notorious cultist, Daddy Chukwu, who was traced to his hideout in Delta State and killed early this year by the police after they shot and killed a community leader, Chief Ndidi Livingstone, in the presence of his family.

Disu said, “Recall the assassination of the then Community Development Committee Chairman of Mgbuoshimini, Chief Ndidi Livingstone on January 13, 2024, in front of his church, the Peculiar Faith Ministries, Rumueme.

“The cold-blooded murder which was carried out in broad daylight was captured in a viral video that sparked outrage. I directed a team of operatives of the FID-Intelligence Response Team and the Rivers State Command on a nationwide manhunt for the killers.”

He further said following investigations, other members of the gang were identified in a video by a special team.

“The unrelenting manhunt for the perpetrators seen shooting and murdering the deceased in the viral video has now led to the arrest of the three other persons directly responsible for the assassination and six more persons belonging to their criminal network.”

Disu however said while the four arrested suspects led operatives to one of the camps to recover arms and ammunition, other gang members opened fire on them and as those arrested tried to escape they were gunned down.

He said, “During the investigation, four of the suspects, John Lucas, ‘m’, Nnamdi Emmanuel, m ‘, Ogolo Promise, ‘m’ and Adebayo Adebayo, ‘m’, led operatives to one of their camps at Pipeline, Aluu village for the recovery of their cache of weapons. While approaching the camp, they came under heavy gunfire by hoodlums suspected to be fellow gang members.

“The suspects attempted to escape in the ensuing ambush but were caught in the crossfire. The hoodlums were eventually overpowered, and the suspects were rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

“The doctor confirmed them dead, and they were deposited in the UPTH morgue for autopsy,” saying that efforts were still on to apprehend more suspects connected to the late Chukwu criminal network and possibly recover more arms ammunition.
