Ademola Lookman’s transfer market value increases by €15 Million

0

The market worth of Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has increased significantly, and it is currently believed to be €55 million.
Ademola Lookman is now Nigeria’s second most valuable player, trailing only Victor Osimhen at €75 million, thanks to the €15 million boost, surpassing Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface, who is valued at €45 million.
Lookman’s exceptional performance earned him the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award, defeating strong competitors like Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, and Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra. Furthermore, Lookman came in at number 14 in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings.
The 27-year-old winger has solidified his place among Nigeria’s best football players with his ascent over the last two seasons. He was valued at €30 million at the end of 2023, but a stellar year saw his market value rise by an astounding €25 million, or 83.33%.

His price increased to €40 million by June 2024 following his outstanding performance in the UEFA Europa League final, where he scored a hat-trick in Atalanta’s 3-0 victory over Leverkusen to secure the team’s first European trophy.

The African Ballon d’Or was a fitting way for Lookman to end his stellar 2024, according to Transfermarkt’s Italy Area Manager Jatin Dietl. He has been in outstanding form, contributing significantly to Atalanta’s accomplishments and helping the team win its first international championship.

Major European teams like PSG, Arsenal, and Liverpool were interested in Lookman before he reached this peak and said they wanted to recruit him last summer. But as the season goes on, Atalanta may find it difficult to hold onto his skills.

Atalanta President Antonio Percassi has made it clear that the team intends to retain Lookman during the January transfer window, despite the increasing interest. He said, “Our plan is not to change anything in the January window,” in reference to the forward’s future.

For the Yuletide season, the government of President Bola Tinubu announced on Thursday that interstate transportation fares would be cut by 50%.
For Nigerians traveling to celebrate Christmas and New Year’s, the Federal Government decided to lower travel costs.

Olujimi Oyetomi, the Ministry of Transportation’s Director of Press and Public Relations, said this in a statement.

According to the statement, “Patronages will board buses to their destinations for only 50% of fares, as declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to commence the 2024 Yuletide road transportation.”

A larger plan to provide transportation palliatives for Nigerians enjoying Christmas and New Year’s Eve was announced by President Bola Tinubu.

Adeleye Adeoye, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, represented Senator Said Alkali, the Minister of Transportation, who presided over the signing event.

The Federal Government inked an MOU with important transportation stakeholders, such as God is Good Motors, the Association of Luxurious Bus Owners of Nigeria, the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, and the National Union of Road Transport Workers.

Passengers will only pay half the regular ticket when they depart from Abuja and Lagos (Oshodi) to various places throughout the nation under the arrangement.

Osun LG Election: OSSIEC Set to Hire 8,000 Adhoc Staff

0

In advance of the local government elections scheduled for February 22, 2025, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, or OSSIEC, has revealed plans to hire more than 8,000 ad hoc employees.

The action is a component of the commission’s endeavors to guarantee smooth elections across the state.

Members of the Osun State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government, headed by Olujimi Asagade, visited Osogbo on Thursday, where OSSIEC Chairman Hashim Abioye gave a speech.

He emphasized that the polling preparations were almost finished.

He gave stakeholders his word that the commission was prepared to hold free and fair elections.

He emphasized the Commission’s independence while pointing out that there was no outside intervention, especially from the state’s administrative branch and state governor Ademola Adeleke.

Additionally, he emphasized his dedication to upholding neutrality during the election process.

“I can assure you that we are completely prepared for the elections,” he remarked. In order to guarantee a more effective method, we are utilizing technology to hire ad hoc workers.

“A throng would have crowded our premises if we hadn’t taken that action. For the elections, we will require more than 8,000 ad hoc employees.

Abioye stated that the Commission’s facilities had been upgraded and that a functional portal had been set up for hiring and other preparation tasks.

“The commission has put technologies in place to monitor actions at polling places, even though the voting process won’t be entirely electronic.

Although the results won’t be sent electronically, we can keep an eye on events in each polling station thanks to the facilities we have on site. To do that, we have digital equipment,” he continued.

“I can tell you most sincerely that Governor Ademola Adeleke is not interfering with our duties,” Abioye said, restating OSSIEC’s independence. In order to foster trust, we are also including the Inter-Party Advisory Council into all of our endeavors.

“We are grateful to the House for providing us with a sound statute to work within. Other states are now using Osun’s local government election law as a model.

Asagade said that the Assembly was prepared to assist the commission in holding an election that would be acceptable to all parties involved and commended the OSSIEC Chairman for providing a solid basis for the commission.

Fani-Kayode Criticizes Badenoch: ‘Nigerian Police Guard Your Mum in Lagos’

Former Minister of Aviation, Fani-Kayode, has again lambasted the leader of the British Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, for her criticism of Nigeria.

It was remembered that Badenoch, a Nigerian born British citizen, has persistently insulted Nigeria and her institutions.

In a recent interview with a British journalist, she accused police officers back home of snatching her brother’s wristwatch and shoes in defence of the UK police.

Reacting to her statements against Nigeria, Vice President Kashim Shettima recently ordered her to remove ‘Kemi’ from her name if she was not proud of her Nigerian ancestry.

However, Fani-Kayode while answering to Badenoch in a tweet from his official X handle on Thursday, said the conservative party leader cannot claim for police protection for her mother in Lagos from the police she attacked

“She says she trusts the British police and claims that Nigerian policemen stole her brother’s watch and shoes.

“But she refuses to acknowledge the fact that the British police are amongst the most institutionally racist and corrupt in the world.

“That many black people, including Nigerians, have been framed, persecuted, tortured, illegally incarcerated, maliciously prosecuted and killed over the years including thousands of Nigerians who are butchered yearly on the streets of the UK in violent knife crimes.

“The British police turned a blind eye to all of these simply because most of the victims are black.

“Given her views about our policemen, one wonders why she insists on her mother having police protection in Lagos”, Fani-Kayode noted.

Gov Fubar: ‘We’ll use peace, artificial intelligence to defeat troublemakers’

Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara has promised to resolve disputes and defeat troublemakers by utilizing artificial intelligence and peace.

Regardless matter the degree of provocation, Fubara promised never to use force to settle disagreements.

He said this on Thursday at the official opening of Eze Oha Apara Palace in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, for Eze Worlu-Wodo, the Paramount Ruler of Ekinigbo, and Eze Oha Apara IV.

“As they have stated, I would not be interested if it were in other cases,” he remarked. No, no, no. That’s not how I play politics. Our chairman is from Rivers State, and anything we do is funded by state resources rather than my money.

“Try to keep your temper in check, regardless of how provoked you are. We don’t settle disputes by fighting. To get rid of troublemakers, you use peace, do it properly, and use artificial intelligence.

Rivers State’s political system has been a point of contention between Fubara and Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Due to lawmakers grouping themselves along allegiance lines, their rift has caused fractures inside the State House of Assembly.

The cold war between the governor and the minister continues in spite of President Bola Tinubu’s attempts at mediation.

Recruitment Scandal: Benue Assembly Suspends SUBEB Chairman

0

Dr. Grace Adagba, the chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, or SUBEB, has been asked by the Benue House of Assembly to immediately resign from her position.

During its plenary session on Thursday, the House decided to permit an inquiry into the board’s hiring process.

Peter Ipusu (APC, Katsina-Ala West), the Chief Whip, made the motion that led to the resolution.

Ipusu said that in order to allow for an examination into the issues surrounding the exercise, the House had previously passed a resolution ordering the board chairman to halt the current hiring of primary school teachers. But the order was disregarded.

He emphasized that the chairman issued a statement the day after the resolution was delivered, stating that different local governments had been given revised cut-off marks according to their performance on the Computer-Based Test, or CBT.

The Chief Whip added that other names were later shortlisted by the board for in-person screening.

In addition to being reactionary, he voiced worry that the SUBEB statement was demeaning to the Assembly’s honor and its resolutions.

The motion’s seconder, Alfred Berger (APC, Makurdi North), said the SUBEB chairman lacked the moral character to continue directing the board’s operations. Berger further emphasized that the process was decentralized and that the board’s Department of Quality Assurance solely oversaw it, noting that the law creating the board gave the Local Government Education Authorities, or LGEAs, the authority to hire instructors.

Majority Leader Saater Tiseer, meanwhile, urged his colleagues to listen to the chairman fairly.

As ordered, Tiseer arrived at the assembly by 10 am on the day she was supposed to appear before the House.

He urged his colleagues to behave in accordance with the Constitution and cautioned them against making decisions based on bias.

Anthony Agom (PDP, Okpokwu) seconded the counter-motion, which said the chairman ought to be given the opportunity to defend herself.

Speaker Hyacinth Dajo then gave John Hwande, the clerk, instructions to divide the House. Five members supported the counter-move, while 21 members supported the original motion.

Dajo stated that the chairman should step aside and hand over to the board’s permanent member 1 to allow the House to carry out its investigation.

He further constituted a seven-member committee to investigate the exercise and report to the House within seven days.

CUPP accuses Wike of plotting Lawmaker Ugochinyere’s arrest

The Coalition of United Political Parties, or CUPP, has expressed alarm over alleged plots by security agencies and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike to arrest Hon. Ugochinyere Michael Ikeagwuonu, a lawmaker representing Ideato Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

This was revealed by the Coalition in a statement released Thursday following an Abuja press conference.

Comrade Mark Adebayo, the coalition’s co-spokesman, and CUPP Secretary-General Peter Ameh both called the purported scheme a serious threat to democracy. They called it a “covert plot to discredit, discredit, and silence one of Nigeria’s most outspoken and unassailable opposition figures.”

CUPP further claimed that the pro-Wike group had been preparing fictitious witnesses to give false testimony against Ugochinyere in Abuja for more than six weeks, working with complicit security services.

In a forcefully worded statement, the Coalition declared, “This is a desperate, low-budget Nollywood production whose purpose has already failed.” “Ikenga’s God-given commitment to speaking truth to power cannot be silenced by intimidation, blackmail, or false allegations,” they said.

In an effort to oppose the purported scheme, the coalition also declared plans for nationwide demonstrations.

But as of the time this article was filed, neither Nigerian security agencies nor Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, had addressed the accusations made by CUPP.

According to reports, Ugochinyere has been critical of Wike, especially in relation to his involvement in the current crisis inside the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the opposition party.

Nigerian Woman detained in One of India’s Largest Drug Operations

In relation to a significant drug trafficking case, authorities in Bengaluru, India, have detained Roselime Oluchi Ikeoha, a 40-year-old Nigerian lady.

One of the biggest drug seizures in Bengaluru’s history occurred when the Central Crime Branch’s (CCB) Anti-Narcotics section found 12 kg of MDMA, a powerful synthetic narcotic, in her possession.

According to Police Commissioner B. Dayananda, who verified the arrest, the drugs found were worth about ₹24 crore. Ikeoha had been running a grocery store in the TC Palya neighborhood for the previous five years, investigators found, and it was supposedly a front for her drug distribution operations.

“This is among the largest drug seizures in Karnataka and Bengaluru.”

“A global MDMA crystal drug network was successfully eliminated by the CCB team’s Narcotics Control Wing.

“They found 12 kg of pure white and yellow MDMA, worth about ₹24 crore in total.” “Dayananda said.”

Dayananda added that CCB officers stormed Ikeoha’s home and took her into custody while acting on reliable intelligence. They also found 70 SIM cards during the raid, which sparked concerns about a larger criminal network.

Authorities claim that Ikeoha acknowledged during questioning that he had sold medicines at exorbitant prices in order to profit illegally.

According to reports, she also gave details on her suppliers and a possible link to a drug-dealing woman in Mumbai.

“An inquiry is currently in progress to determine Ikeoha’s suppliers and the involvement of a woman from Mumbai who is thought to be associated with the network.

The CCB Narcotics squad questioned her, obtained information, and confiscated 12 kg of cocaine following her arrest. We’re currently looking for the source.

He clarified, “Further investigations will concentrate on identifying the Mumbai woman, comprehending the reason behind the 70 SIM cards discovered in her possession, and figuring out where the drugs came from.”

Five years ago, Ikeoha entered India on a business visa, but she overstayed when her visa expired. She is the subject of police charges under the Foreigners Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Yul Edochie Abandons Presidential Ambition, Eyes Anambra Governorship

0

Yul Edochie, a Nigerian actor and past presidential candidate, has sparked internet debates over his political aspirations once more.
Edochie recently shared a picture of himself with President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, on his official Instagram account. He also endorsed Seyi Tinubu as a potential governor of Lagos State and stated his ambition to become the future governor of Anambra State.
On social media, Nigerians immediately took notice of the picture and its accompanying statement, which described their political goals.

Edochie has already run for president, but it seems that he is now refocusing on running for governor of Anambra, indicating his continued interest in Nigerian politics.
Recall that just a month ago, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Lagos State branch stated that the Bola Tinubu family should not be given the governorship position in the state.
This response comes in the wake of recent group campaigning and support for President Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, to be the next governor of Lagos State, replacing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

However, the PDP has stated that Lagos residents will oppose any efforts to force the president’s son to become the next to hold the highest political position in the state in 2027.

“Lagos will not serve him,” stated Hakeem Amode, the state PDP spokesperson, in a statement released in November.

When asked if the governorship should be a hereditary office, Amode responded that it is inappropriate for a son to take over his father’s role.

He stressed that if the Tinubu group adopted tactics similar to those previously used in Ondo and Edo states, they would face strong resistance.

***Commends Investment in Infrastructure, Security

The Renewed Hope Ambassadors Network (RHAN) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2025 budget proposal, describing it as a “bold and visionary document” that seeks to restore hope to Nigerians and guide the country towards sustainable growth and prosperity.

The group praised the president’s commitment to addressing the country’s economic challenges, particularly inflation, which has been a major concern for Nigerians.

According to Opialu Fabian, Secretary General of RHAN, the budget proposal aims to reduce inflation from 34.6% to 15% by the end of 2025.

Fabian also commended the significant allocation to defense and security, which stands at N4.91 trillion, noting that this demonstrates the government’s commitment to protecting the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians.

Furthermore, the group applauded the investment in infrastructure development, with an estimated N4.06 trillion earmarked for the sector. This, they noted, will facilitate the movement of goods and services, reduce costs, enhance productivity, and create jobs.

Other areas of the budget that RHAN commended include the allocation to education (N3.52 trillion) and healthcare (N2.48 trillion), as well as the focus on social welfare programs aimed at alleviating poverty and reducing inequality.

The group urged all Nigerians to rally behind the president’s vision for a better and brighter future, noting that it is everyone’s collective responsibility to ensure the success of the ambitious agenda outlined in the budget.

Fabian added: “We are very convinced that the 2025 budget is a bold and visionary document that seeks to restore hope to the Nigerian people, and guide the country towards a path of sustainable growth and prosperity.

“The allocation of resources to critical sectors such as defense, infrastructure, health, education, and social welfare reflects a comprehensive approach to governance that is both pragmatic and forward-thinking. Through these efforts, the Asiwaju’s led-administration is not only addressing the immediate needs of the population, but also laying the groundwork for a better and more prosperous future for all Nigerians.

“We, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors Network stand in full support of the President’s commitments, and we call on all Nigerians to rally behind this noble vision for a better and brighter future.

“We need to understand that it is our collective responsibility to ensure the success of this ambitious agenda through active participation in the economic and social programs outlined in the budget. Let us work together to ensure that the “Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace, and Rebuilding Prosperity” becomes a reality that will benefit not only this generation but also generations to come.

“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for great leadership insight in presenting this visionary budget to the National Assembly. We commend his courage, leadership prowess, and commitment to the Nigerian people that this budget represents.”
