Pastor Bolaji Idowu denies fraud allegations: ‘I’m not in real estate, my account is public

0

Pastor Bolaji Idowu, the lead pastor of Harvesters International Christian Center (HICC), has refuted claims that he was involved in a fraud involving ₦1.5 billion.

In response to the widely shared charges on social media, the pastor clarified his position and insisted on his innocence during his “Next Level Prayers” session on Wednesday.

Pastor Idowu said, “There has been a lot of news about me on social media over the last 24 hours.” “I just want to be clear about a few facts.”

He denied accusations that he was involved in fraudulent real estate transactions, claiming he has no commercial stake in real estate transactions.

“Aside from the estate my late parents left me, I don’t own any property in Nigeria,” he stated.

“I don’t deal in real estate purchases or sales.”

Additionally, Pastor Bolaji Idowu denied reports that he had received substantial deposits into his accounts, namely billions of naira.

Someone said that billions had been deposited into my account. Anyone can check my public account to see if I’ve ever received such sums. “I didn’t,” he said.

The preacher used a positive tone to thank his followers, praising those who had reached out with encouraging comments.

“I want to express my gratitude to everyone who showed such affection. “We have won,” he declared, adding that the issue had not deterred him.

Idowu also acknowledged the allegations’ public character and the attention they have received.

He said, “As you read it, I’m reading it too, like wow.”

Namibia makes history: Nandi-Ndaitwah elected as first female president

0

Following a contentious vote that the main opposition has already stated it does not recognize, Namibia’s ruling SWAPO party was proclaimed the victor on Tuesday of last week’s contested elections, bringing in the nation’s first female president.

According to the electoral authority, Vice-President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah received slightly more than 57% of the vote, with the main opposition Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) candidate coming in second with 25.5%.

The mineral-rich southern African nation, which has been run by the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO) since gaining independence from apartheid South Africa in 1990, is now led by Nandi-Ndaitwah, 72, who is the first woman to hold the position.
SWAPO’s 34-year hold on power was put to the question in the November 27 election, when younger voters who were more worried about inequality and unemployment than allegiance to parties from the liberation era gave some support to the IPC.

Due to long lines caused by technological and logistical issues, such as a lack of ballots, voting was postponed to November 30. After waiting for up to twelve hours on the first day of voting, some voters gave up.

The IPC stated that it would not accept the outcome and that this was a calculated attempt to irritate voters.

Panduleni Itula, 67, its presidential candidate, claimed last week that there were a “multitude of irregularities.”

On Saturday, the final day of the prolonged poll, he declared that the “IPC shall not recognize the outcome of that election.” Using the procedures set up in our democratic process, the party would “fight… to nullify the elections,” he declared.

Imms Nashinge, a spokesman for the IPC, stated that the party remained in this stance following the announcement of the SWAPO victory on Tuesday.

The followers of Itula’s party were urged last week to maintain composure while simultaneously “standing firm to ensure that we shall not be robbed nor denied our democratic right to choose our leaders.”

Additionally, a group of human rights attorneys from southern Africa who are election monitors claimed that the voting box delays were frequent and deliberate.

The lack of ballots and the overheating of the electronic tablets used for voter registration were among the issues the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) acknowledged occurred during the election’s planning.

It stated Tuesday that about 77 percent of the country’s over 1.5 million registered voters have cast ballots in the presidential election.

“My fellow Namibians, while elections are inherently competitive, democracy requires us to come together after the results are in. After the results were announced, ECN chairperson Elsie Nghikembua urged all Namibians to accept them in the spirit of harmony, diversity, understanding, and reconciliation.

In the concurrent national assembly election, SWAPO also won all 51 seats, while the IPC only won 20. Compared to its 63 seats in the previous legislature, SWAPO’s number was lower.

Given that other liberation-era movements in the area have lost support among young voters, such as the Botswana Democratic Party’s ouster from power last month after nearly 60 years, the election was viewed as a crucial test for SWAPO.

Despite being a major exporter of diamonds and uranium, commentators claim that few of Namibia’s approximately three million residents have profited from the country’s wealth in terms of better infrastructure and employment prospects.

According to the most recent official statistics from 2018, the unemployment rate for those aged 15 to 34 is expected to be 46%, about three times the national average.

One of the rare female leaders on the continent will be Nandi-Ndaitwah, a SWAPO mainstay who goes by her initials, NNN.

In February of this year, the conservative daughter of an Anglican minister was appointed vice president.

During the campaign, she frequently wore blue, red, and green—the colors of her party and the flag of the country—in an attempt to flaunt her years of experience. She is easily recognized by her gold-framed glasses.

NNN stated that she plans to “create jobs by attracting investments using economic diplomacy” as one of her election pledges.

Gunmen kill farmer, escalating tensions in contested Osun community

According to reports, gunmen on Tuesday killed Sikiru Onaolapo, a farmer from Olobu’s property in Ilobu, Osun State.

It was learned that the incident took place on his farm in the Oke Ekutu area, which is riven by conflicts between the Ifon-Orolu and Ilobu groups.

There have always been conflicts between the two communities that share a boundary in the Oke Ekutu area.

Land ownership disputes have added to the tensions, and the recent murder has further strained ties.
The state administration declared a curfew from dawn to sunset in October 2023 in response to the incident, which has generated fears of potential violence between the populations.

After the farmer passed away, his body was carried to the Olobu palace’s entrance, where a sizable crowd assembled.

The community’s grief and indignation were reflected in the solemn parade, as locals called for justice and action from the appropriate authorities.

Video footage showed distraught Ilobu villagers voicing their dread and fury.

They urged security services and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to act quickly to ease the tension and stop possible retaliation.

In response to the murder, Leke Ogunsola, the Otun Jagun of Ilobu, declared, “Sikiru Onaolapo is the victim.” He was from the Compound of Ilobu in Olobu. He was shot dead this morning when he went to his property in Oke Ekutu.

In response to the community’s calls for a de-escalation of tension, Ogunsola urged the state’s security forces to apprehend the murderer and conduct a comprehensive investigation to stop it from happening again.

“The Ilobu community demands that the security agents arrest the suspect and carry out a thorough investigation to unravel the issues surrounding the killing,” he continued.

When asked how he felt about the claims that an Ifon-Orolu native killed Sikiru Onaolapo, Jide Akinyooye, the secretary of the Ifon-Orolu Progressives Union’s board of trustees, denied the charge.

However, Akinyooye insisted on a comprehensive inquiry to determine the cause of the murder.

“An investigation into the occurrence should be conducted,” he stated, “but I can assure you that there isn’t someone in Ifon with that name.

We are aware that some individuals have been purchasing land in the buffer zones that the Osun State Government has already established, and that Olufon of Ifon was previously informed of this.

After that, our king issued a firm order for none of his subjects to approach the region that the administration had already designated as a buffer zone. Therefore, no Ifon native was responsible for this atrocity.

Defamation no longer a classified criminal law, release Farotimi Immediately – NUJ ex-president, Ogundipe

0

According to Comrade Lanre Ogundipe, a former president of the African Union of Journalists (AUJ) and Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), defamation is no longer a crime in Lagos State.

Such a problem can be handled without frightening the individual or parties concerned, according to Ogundipe.

He said this in response to the police detention of human rights campaigner Dele Farotimi.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Ogundipe stated that defamation was no longer a crime in Lagos as of 2011.

With this violation, I hereby demand that Mr. Farotimi be immediately and unconditionally released from police custody.

The Nigerian police’s invasion and detention of human rights activist Dele Farotimi on the basis of an unsubstantiated accusation of defamation is unfair and goes against the natural justice concept.

Defamation is no longer a classified criminal offense, and the matter can be settled without needlessly scaring the other party by breaking into his workplace and making him leave.

“Dele Farotimi’s fundamental rights have been violated by the police action, which is oppressive and a misuse of power.

“In Lagos State, defamation is no longer a crime. In Lagos, the law was decriminalized in 2011.

“In order to prevent Dele’s arrest, the police legal department did not fulfill its obligation to provide its operational agents with comprehensive advice regarding the state’s legal situation.

“With this violation, I hereby demand that Mr. Farotimi be released unconditionally from police custody without further delay,” he stated.

Dele Farotimi’s arrest: Police must not serve as tool for oppression – Idam

0

According to activist attorney Maduabuchi Idam, the use of police to resolve civil cases is archaic.

Idam responded to the arrest of human rights attorney Dele Farotimi by saying that Nigerians shouldn’t be subjected to harassment and oppression by the police.

After Tony Elumelu, the Chairman of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group, filed a defamation petition, members of the Nigeria Police Force from Zone 2 Command in Lagos picked up Farotimi.
Farotimi had voiced worries the day before the incident about purported threats against his life made by powerful individuals in Nigerian politics.

Idam responded by saying that anyone who feels wronged by a civil wrong should go to court to get their issue resolved.

“It is interesting to discover that the Nigeria Police is less busy even with the task of combating the myriad of security challenges wrestling with defenseless citizens of Nigeria,” Idam wrote in a statement he signed.

The fact that Mr. Dele Farotimi was arrested for allegedly libel, a clear civil wrong, instead proves that the Nigerian police are indifferent to the country’s security issues.

The Supreme Court has issued a warning against the practice of utilizing the police to persecute innocent persons over civil matters in a number of cases. Regretfully, the police have consistently disregarded every caution against getting involved in civil cases.

“Instead of getting involved in civil disputes or trying to use coercive powers to get involved in contractual disagreements, the Inspector General of Police should refocus the Police Force on fighting crimes and protecting people and property.”

“A person who alleges defamation must go to a court of law, not a police station, to seek redress.”

“Using the police to settle civil disputes is not only archaic, but it is also incompatible with civility.”

Customers of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) can report issues with cash withdrawals at automated teller machines (ATMs) or over the counter by contacting specific contacts.

The governor of the CBN, Olayemi Cardoso, encouraged bank customers to report any difficulties with withdrawals by calling the numbers provided on November 29.

Before the instruction, the financial authority had threatened to penalize banks if they did not prioritize cash disbursements through ATMs.

However, CBN offered specific lines to assist in resolving customers’ issues in a circular on Tuesday that was co-signed by its acting director of currency operations, Solaja Olayemi, and its acting director of branch operations, Isa-Olatinwo Aisha.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) stated, “Please refer to the various engagements and interventions from the CBN on the above subject aimed at addressing efficient and optimal currency circulation in the economy.”

“We would like to call your attention to the following guidelines and directions as part of these ongoing efforts:

“Deposit Money Banks (DMBs): The CBN will step up its monitoring responsibilities to enforce this instruction and guarantee compliance, and DMBs are instructed to ensure effective cash disbursement to customers over-the-counter (OTC) and through ATMs.

Despite his professional success, singer Timaya has disclosed why he has not been married.

In a recent interview with Naija FM, he said that he has never desired marriage, saying he has never been attracted to it.

But according to the artist, he didn’t rule out the potential of having second thoughts in the future.

“I’ve never been married, but that may change because marriage is “crazy,” right? I simply ask myself, “Will I be able to leave if I get married today?” Because I dislike stress, I was the one to leave every relationship I had in the past,” he stated.

Timaya clarified that he is hesitant to get married because he wants freedom and doesn’t like stress.

He emphasized the value of open communication in relationships and said he respects openness and truthfulness.

Since I don’t like to go to sleep worrying about things, let’s discuss any issues you may have with me before I die. “I don’t like anything that bothers me,” he continued.

Timaya said that his children frequently come to spend long periods of time with him and that he spends quality time with them.

Timaya emphasized that although they are not romantically involved, they have a respectful and familial relationship with their mothers.

Akpabio, Abbas, others advocate against religious violence

On Tuesday, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Senate President Godswill Akpabio issued a warning against murdering Nigerians for having different political and religious beliefs.

They made the plea during the National Peace Committee’s “High-Level Discourse on Religion & Democracy” event in Abuja.

General Abdulsalami Abubakar, a former head of state, serves as the chairman of the NPC, an effort aimed at promoting peace and national unity.

Speaking on behalf of former Edo Governor Adams Oshimohole, Akpabio emphasized that a country with a large population like Nigeria shouldn’t be perceived as still experiencing religious intolerance.

“As we come together, we acknowledge that religion has the capacity to be a tremendous force for good,” he remarked. It can bring us together and promote mutual respect and understanding between our many communities. We must appreciate our humanity and accept our diversity.

We all have the fundamental right to freely practice our religion, and it is our shared responsibility to defend that freedom by making sure that no one is harassed or marginalized because of their decision. However, we have to face the unpleasant truth. We have all too frequently witnessed the abuse of religion as a means of conflict and separation.

“Our democratic values and the tenets that bind our society together are in risk of being undermined by the threats of violence and bigotry. The anguish and suffering brought forth by religious conflicts worldwide cannot be disregarded. An eye for an eye simply serves to blind the entire world, as Mahatma Gandhi once stated.

Abbas expressed his belief when he pointed out that the politicization of religion is one of the main issues confronting Nigeria’s democracy.

Julius Ihonvbere, the Majority Leader of the 10th House of Representatives, represented the Speaker, who acknowledged that religion continues to play a significant role in Nigerian politics.

Being a multicultural country, we have a wide range of cultures and religions, including indigenous beliefs in addition to the major religions of Islam and Christianity. Our democratic processes face both opportunities and problems as a result of these differences. Throughout history, religion has been a major influence on the standards and values of our society.

It has, yet, also given rise to disputes and discord. The negative effects of religious influence on our democracy must be addressed. For electoral purposes, political leaders use religious beliefs. These facts put us in a difficult situation that we need to handle with caution.

We have seen in recent years how religious beliefs can affect political affiliations and election results. Politics and religion can cause division among our populace and frequently make government more difficult. As we work toward a more inclusive democracy, it is imperative that we acknowledge these dynamics,” he said.

Bishop Mathew Kukah, the Archbishop of the Sokoto Diocese, stated in his speech that the nation must have a moral base upon which to fight the social ills caused by religious strife.

In his view, it is immoral for someone to kill another person in the sake of defending their faith.

As an example, the preacher brought up the case of Deborah Yakubu, a 200-level female student at Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, who was lynched and set ablaze by a crowd on a charge of blasphemy.

“Nigerians are dying every day in the name of democracy and religion,” he remarked. There must be a problem. The military’s dismantling of the intellectual role is one of its legacy from the past 30 years. During that period, General Babangida accused academics of teaching things for which they were not compensated.

As a result, it became illegal to assist regular Nigerians in thinking. And that legacy hasn’t fully healed us yet. As a result, we see a diverse range of people occupying this political space. How is it possible for someone to murder another person on the grounds that “you have allegedly sinned against my religion”?

“Humans are dying. The Deborah case took place in Sokoto. Soon after, a Muslim experienced it once more. Afterwards, I began to hear people ask me, “So, it is not (restricted to) only you Christians?” That is the same twisted view of religion. The fact that Muslims are also experiencing this does not alter the situation.

However, Kukah repeatedly emphasized the necessity of laying out a plan to help religious leaders realize that it is their duty to instill a moral compass in politicians so that they may successfully fulfill their pledges.

He asserts that prayer is not necessary for basic necessities like clean water, decent roads, and power.

Gautier Mignot, the European Union’s Ambassador-Designate to Nigeria and ECOWAS, said the EU is unwavering in its commitment to advancing world peace.

Mignot added that freedom of thought, conscience, and religion were guaranteed under Article 10 of the EU Charter on Fundamental Rights.

Court Settles 19years Property Dispute, Dismisses Uche Okoli, Multi-Shelter’s Case

0

The Chief Judge of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Justice Hussein Baba Yusuf, has ordered Uche Okoli and his property firm, Multi-shelter Nigeria Limited to vacate a property located at Plot No. 713, Cadastral Zone B14, Duste District, Abuja, for one Dr. Ngozika Nwaneri.

The court also awarded the sum of N10m against Uche Okolj and his company as general damages for trespass and N1m as the cost of the action and another N162m and N28m to a Subscriber and 3rd Defendant/Counter Claimant, Mr. Henry Anuforo, as the cost he spent on building on part of Plot 713 Dutse, sold to him by Multi-Shelter.

Uche Okoli, his firm and 18 others had dragged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Dr Ngozika Nwaneri, a United States based surgeon and businessman before the court over the ownership of Plot 713, Cadastral Zone B14, Dutse District, Abuja.

Okoli is the 1st Claimant while his firm is the 2nd claimant. Dr Nwaneri on his part filed a counterclaim, through his counsel, Dr. Lilian Ojimma, which makes him the 2nd defendant and counter claimant in the suit.

In 2005, Dr Nwaneri engaged
Uche Okoli, the MD of Multi-Shelter Ltd, to acquire plots of land for him in Abuja, and in furtherance of the engagement, Okoli got and presented to Dr Nwaneri, papers in respect of three Plots of Land, one each in Katampe Extension District, Sector C District, and Asokoro IV District, all within Abuja, as the Plots he purchased for him. Dr Nwaneri subsequently engaged one Mr. Victor Muoneke, a legal practitioner, as his attorney to register his title to the three plots.

However, the search reports that Mr. Muoneke obtained from Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS) in his bid to register the 2nd Defendant’s title to the Plots revealed the titles to the various properties to be unauthentic, when confronted about the report, Uche Okoli explained that he purchased the Plots from one Aminu Ibrahim Gaya who worked with the Federal Capital Development Authority.

Uche Okoli and Gaya were arraigned by the EFCC in court but Okoli was later used as prosecution witness against Gaya after settling Dr. Nwaneri with Plot 713 Dutse. Gaya was however found not guilty as the court held that the charge against him could not be substantiated without the Prosecution tendering all the title documents to the three plots.

Meanwhile, the 1st Claimant had signed series of documents including a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) dated 12th February, 2013; and a Deed of Assignment and Power of Attorney, both of which he signed as director of the 2nd Claimant. The documents effectively transferred ownership of the property in dispute, plot 713 Dutse, to the 2nd Defendant as replacement for the three Plots above that AGIS found to be unauthentic.

After the conclusion of the trial of Gaya, Okoli turned around to claim that he was forced by the EFCC to sign the documents of the property in dispute in favour of Dr Nwaneri.

Uche Okoli approached the court through his lawyer, Ikechukwu Ezechukwu, SAN, to seek the following reliefs:
“A declaration that the act of the 1st Defendant (EFCC) by releasing to the 2nd Defendant, the 2nd Claimant’s originalCertificate of Occupancy with certificate No. la7ew+601z543fr-12912-10 deposited as Bond by the 1st Claimant to secure hos bail pending the final investigation and the Court Judgment in the matter before Hon. Justice 0.0. Goodluck, in Charge No. FCT/HC/CR/683/2013 between Federal Republic of Nigeria v Aminu Ibrahim Gaya for the alleged offence of forgery reported by the 2nd Defendant against the 1st Claimant is illegal, unlawful and unjustifiable. “

The claimants prayed the court for an order mandating/compelling the 1st and 2nd Defendants, to retum to the 1st Claimant the original Certificate of Occupancy of Plot 713 Dutse District.

They also prayed the court for an order nullifying/setting aside any Power of Attorney, Deed of Assignment and/or agreement purportedly signed by the 1st Claimant on behalf of the 2nd Claimant, arguing that such signing is unauthorised amd was obtained under duress.

After full trial of the case and listening to submissions of Counsel in the matter, the court dismissed the claimants’ case and described their action as fraudulent.

The Court was particularly vexed by the conduct of Uche Okoli and his lawyers who continued building and selling lands in the disputed property while the case was pending, and despite the subsistence of Order of injunction granted by the Court in November 2018. The Hon. Chief Judge also berated the conduct of the Claimants’ counsel who joined parties in the Suit and represented them in Court without their consent. The Court further questioned the character and integrity of a lawyer and 3rd Claimant in the case, Mr. Hope Onyekwere, who testified in Court on behalf of parties that neither knew him nor authorized his testimony on their behalf.

Hon. Justice Hussein Baba Yusuf commended the industry of lawyers in the case and held, ” I appreciate the industry of Counsel in the case and particularly, Dr. Lilian Ojimma, for how gallantly she held her fort against the community of parties and intrigues that she had to contend with in the case.”

“In conclusion, the respective cases of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd sets of Claimants fail and are dismissed, the 2nd as well as the 3rd defendant’s respective counterclaims succeeds in the term already set out above, and the counterclaim by the 4th -7th defendants are struck out.

“A declaration is hereby made that the 1st claimant who held himself out as a property agent, estate developer and consultant owe the 2nd Defendant/Counter Clamant a duty of care in purchasing the three Plots of Lands on behalf of the 2nd Defendant/Counter Claimant which duty was breached by the 1st Claimant’s failure and or refusal to carry out any due diligence whatsoever on the status of the Plots before pay ment for them.

“A Declaration is hereby made that the act of the 1st Claimant, who held himself out as a property agent, estate developer and consultant, in purchasing three Plots of land for the 2nd Defendant/Counter Claimant without carrying out any due diligence whatsoever is negligent and/or fraudulent and for which the claimants are liable for the loss resulting therefrom.

“A Declaration is hereby made that the 2nd Defendant Counter Claimant is entitled to resttution for the three Plots of land which the 1st Claimant/Defendant to the Counter claim purchased for the 2nd Defendant/Counter Claimant without carrying out any due diligence whatsoever and which plots were declared forged by the Land Registry (i.e. Abuja Geographic Information System).

“A declaration is hereby made that the agreement duly executed between the Claimants/Defendants to the Counter Claim and the 2nd Defendant/Counter Claimant in 2013, which transferred title of Plot No. 713, Cadastral Zone B14, Dutse District, Abuja with File No. MISC 89161 and Certificate of
Occupancy No. 1a7ew-48012-5a3fr-12912-10 to the 2nd Defendant/Counter Claimant is valid and binding on the parties and has duly transferred title to the 2bd Defendant/Counterclaimant with respect to the said Plot.

“An Order of Court is hereby made mandating the Claimants/Defendants to the Counter Claim to vacate, forthwith, the property known as Plot No. 713, Cadastral Zone B14, Duste District, Abuja with file No. MISC 89161 covered by Certificate of Occupancy No. la7ew-4801z-Sa3fr-12912-10, which has been duly transferred to the 2nd Defendant/Counter Claimant as replacement for the three Plots purchased for him without due diligence.

“An order of Perpetual injunction is herehy made restarining the Claimants/Defendants to the Counter clain Whether by themselves, thelr agents, assigns or anybody claming any right howsoever known through them from entering, futher entering, occupying, building of continuing with building operations, trespassing or further trespassing or howsoever dealing or tampering with the property known as Plot No. 713, Cadastral Zone B14, Dutse District, Abuja with file No. MISC 89161 covered by Certificate of Occupancy No. la7cw-4801z-Sa3fr-12912-10, Dutse District, Abaja belonging to the 2nd Defendant/Counter Claimant.”

Breaking: Reps Direct President Tinubu to Lift Freeze on NSIPA Accounts
