The Nigeria Police Force’s Nasarawa State command has arrested John Gambo, a student at the Federal Polytechnic in Nasarawa, in relation to the stabbing death of a classmate.
The arrest was confirmed by SP Ramhan Nansel, the Command’s public relations officer, in a statement released on Sunday in the state capital of Lafia.
A neighborhood resident, Madam Mercy-Bassey, complained of a violent altercation between two of her tenants, which led to the arrest, according to Nansel.

When detectives arrived on the scene, they found Ibrahim Matthew, a part-time student of ND2 Computer Science, lying in a bloody pool.
The victim was sent to the General Hospital in Nasarawa town, according to the spokesperson, but he passed away from his wounds not long after.

The suspect was swiftly captured and allegedly confessed to using both an axe and a knife to attack the victim. The suspect is reportedly a National Diploma (ND) II student in the Department of Banking and Finance.

Shettima Jauro Mohammed, the Commissioner of Police, has ordered that the case be sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for additional investigation and legal action, according to the PPRO.

Meanwhile, it has been stated that ASP Shafi’u Usman Bawa, the Nigeria Police Force officer with AP/No 337979, committed himself.

The unfortunate tragedy occurred in Kontagora town, Niger State, on Saturday, February 8, 2025, as was understood.

A signal released by the police command and made available to reporters on Saturday night verified the tragic development.

ASP Bawa was said to have hanged himself from the ceiling to die.

The wireless communication disclosed that Usman Bawa, the deceased’s father, who lives in Kontagora’s Rigasa neighborhood, informed the police of the occurrence.
A medical expert verified the deceased’s death after his body was sent to the General Hospital in Kontagora after the report was received.

The bones were then given to the family so they could be buried according to Islamic law.

The police have said they would release further information when it becomes available, and they are now conducting an inquiry into the event.

Businesses in Sabon Wuse, in the Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State, are evaluating their losses after a gas truck explosion caused major damage to a large number of cars, stores, and food supplies.
The gas explosion was believed to have happened on Saturday at around 11 p.m. while a gas tanker was releasing its cargo at a nearby filling station.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) Director General, Abdullahi Baba-Arah, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, stating that while no one was killed, the damage was significant.
Eyewitnesses said the explosion sent shockwaves through the community, making many afraid, according to Channels Television.

Several stores and parked cars were consumed by the resulting fire, which quickly spread to a nearby gas station.

The event was described as horrific by Musa Aliyu, a Sabon Wuse local.

The flames of the fire were seen from all throughout the town because it was so powerful. People fled in terror from their houses. “The destruction is immense, but we are grateful to Allah that no one was hurt,” he said.

After a few hours, firefighters arrived at the scene, but by then, numerous valuables had been destroyed by the fire.

The gas explosion occurred in Sabon Wuse, Niger State’s Tafa Local Government Area.

Residents have now urged authorities to impose stricter safety regulations on gas and petrol stations in order to prevent such incidents in the future. This explosion serves as a reminder of the risks associated with handling flammable materials.

In a counterinsurgency operation in Zamfara State’s Zurmi Local Government Area, Nigerian Army troops have killed infamous bandit lord Kachalla Na Faranshi and several of his fighters.
Counter-insurgency specialist and security analyst Zagazola Makama revealed the successful raid, which was a component of Operation Fansan Yamma, on his X (formerly Twitter) page on Friday.
Intelligence sources that talked with Makama claim that Na Faranshi, who was born in Shirgi village in Maradi, Niger Republic, was a major player in organized crime and arms smuggling in northwest Nigeria.
“He was well-known for bringing illegal firearms into Nigeria from Mali and Niger and providing them to different armed groups that were active in the country’s northwest forests,” Makama disclosed.

The deceased terrorist leader was formerly an ally of another notorious terrorist, Bello Turji, and had close connections to militant groups in Mali, according to security officials. But he later split out to form his criminal organization.

In their fight against cross-border terrorism and banditry, Nigerian security authorities have achieved yet another major triumph with the killing of Na Faranshi.

The Nigerian Army, working with other security forces, has stepped up its efforts to target terrorist hideouts, especially in the forests of Sokoto, Katsina, and Zamfara states, which are home to criminal organizations.

Given the region’s history of armed conflict and mass abductions, the military’s continued dedication to reestablishing peace and security is demonstrated by the success of this operation.

The Gulma community, which is part of the Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, was attacked by alleged Lakurawa terrorists, resulting in one person being confirmed dead and six others being hospitalized.
Aliyu Sani Gulma, the chairman of Argungu Local Government, said reporters on Friday that the attack happened on Thursday night at approximately 11:00 PM when the villagers were asleep.
Six people were shot and one person was reportedly killed during the attack.

Gulma stated that the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kebbi is in the process of treating the injured people.

When the attackers realized that some people of the community had banded together to face them, Gulma added, they retreated into the forest.

He affirmed that he has reported the event to the appropriate security authorities and that military forces have been sent to the area to protect the inhabitants and their belongings.

When contacted, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, the Kebbi Police Command’s public relations officer, informed Daily Trust that the command had already sent out mobile police officers to the area.

The most recent assault was understood to occur just two months after Adamu Aliero, the senator for Kebbi Central, claimed that the Nigerian military had relocated terrorist organizations to the Niger Republic.

The development, according to Aliero, came about as a result of the actions of the Chief of Defense Staff, Abubakar Badaru, the Minister of Defense, and other important players.

“We made it clear to the minister that if we play with the Lakurawa terrorists, what happened to the North East could happen to the North West,” Aliero had stated. We can end this conflict in five days, and it would be disastrous if we let the North East repeat itself in the North West. Since the North West is home to a larger population and more agricultural land, livestock, rivers for effective irrigation, fisheries, and other resources, we need to protect the region.

Our international boundary is the limit of our forces’ movement. However, the rest must now be done by our current military partnership with the Nigerien military to defeat insurgency and banditry.
