Nigerians from all walks of life have urged the federal government to preserve the memory of the democratic icon who held the country’s freest, most credible, and most equitable presidential election on June 12, 1993, as funeral ceremonies for the late Professor Humphrey Nwosu, the former chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), began.

Ezekwesili and Senator Nwaebonyi reportedly argued at Tuesday’s Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges hearing over Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s claim of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Ezekwesili, the former minister of education, has the authority to hold public servants accountable, according to Nweke.

“I completely condemn and am horrified by the derogatory language used by Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi against Oby Ezekwesili during a public hearing on the sexual harassment allegation made against Senator Godswill Akpabio by Natasha Akpoti.” Oby Ezekwesili has the same right to hold public authorities responsible as any other Nigerian. Because Oboyinlo Enenche Peter, a relative of Pastor Paul Enenche, is accused of violating his release terms in an ongoing criminal defamation case, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has asked the Federal Capital Territory’s Magistrate’s Court in Abuja to withdraw his bail.
In the Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, Oboyinlo Enenche Peter, Abraham Daniel, and other allegedly at-large individuals are on trial for allegedly disparaging the reputations of Pastor Paul Enenche, the General Overseer of Dunamis International Gospel Center, and Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
IGP Egbetokun charged Peter with violating the terms of his release in a Motion on Notice filed with the court on March 17 by his lawyer, Francis Gabriel Esq., of the Nigeria Police Force’s Legal Prosecution Section.
Egbetokun, the police chief, is requesting a court order to remand Peter in the Nigeria Correctional Service’s custody until the end of his trial due to this alleged infraction.

It was recognized that the application was submitted in compliance with the inherent jurisdiction of the court, Section 4 of the Police Act, Section 35 (f, 44 (2) K. 251(d) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and several sections of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015.

The allegation of a breach of bail terms serves as the foundation for the application.

Notably, this comes after the defendants in the case, Peter Enenche and Abraham Daniel, a former pastor at Dunamis, petitioned Chief Emmanuel A. Iyanna, the presiding magistrate, accusing him of misconduct and flagrant disrespect for the law.

“The First Defendant, after being granted bail by this Honourable Court, went and made several publications on Facebook, WhatsApp, and other social media platforms defaming the Character of the General Overseer of the Dunamis International Gospel Centre and consequently was found to be committing the same offence for which he is standing trial before this Honourable Court,” the applicant stated as one of the six grounds for the application.

“With the intention of making fun of this Court in the eyes of the public, the first defendant also published a piece that touched on the subject matter of the criminal trial that is currently taking place before this Honorable Court without this Court’s consent.

“That the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015 gives this Honorable Court the authority to cancel the first defendant’s bail if it is discovered that the defendant is committing another crime while out on bail.”

“That the Respondents will succeed in their plans to shorten the justice of this case unless this Honorable Court steps in and grants this application.”

Oboyinlo Enenche Peter, Mr. Abraham Daniel, and Others At Large are the first through third defendants/respondents in the lawsuit, while the Inspector General of Police is the complainant/applicant.

“AN order of this Honorable Court revoking the bail of the 1st Defendant, Oboyinlo Enenche Peter for violating the Condition of his bail,” is one of the three reliefs the applicant requested.

An order that remands the first defendant to the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Service until the case’s trial is over.

“And any additional orders that this Honorable Court may think appropriate to issue under the facts of this case.”

Stressing the value of strong leadership in promoting sustainable progress in the region, the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make sure that qualified and experienced people are chosen to head the recently formed South-South Development Commission.

“This one action has increased our people’s trust in the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting equitable regional development throughout the nation, especially to address the unique social, environmental, and developmental challenges that our region faces.”

“In order to ensure that this body plays its complementary role to the efforts of our Governors in delivering sustainable development to the region—which continues to contribute greatly to the sustenance of the Nigerian national economy for decades—PANDEF is hopeful that Mr. President will carefully select competent and tested hands with cognate skills and experience when establishing this new Commission.

“PANDEF restates that other unresolved issues will be given priority, particularly environmental cleanup from the detrimental effects of oil and gas extraction and the severe lack of basic infrastructure, which pose an existential threat to the South-South.

Nigerians have been exhorted by House of Representatives member Hon. Inombek Abiante to resist all forms of persecution, irrespective of personal prejudices. At a meeting between the FCT Traditional Council and the House of Representatives Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters in Abuja on Monday, he made this request.

His colleague, Hon. Jonathan Gwefwi, denounced the relocation of the FCT’s original residents under the pretext of resettlement, which spurred Abiante to make the call. The FCT’s residents had nowhere else to call home, and Gwefwi called the situation “painful.”

Abiante observed that the indigenous people have not benefited from several resettlement projects. Under the direction of HRH Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa, Chairman of the FCT Traditional Council, he tasked traditional leaders with protecting their citizens from tyranny.

The senator also called out the government’s repressive treatment of the Niger Delta’s residents, pointing to the recent declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State. He made it clear that keeping quiet about injustice would only make things worse.
