Femi Branch Explains Why Desmond Elliot’s Good Deeds in His Constituency Go Unnoticed

0

Nollywood actor, Femi Branch, has opined that his colleague, Desmond Elliot’s good deeds in his constituency go unnoticed due to poor publicity and position in the political ladder.
Naija News reports that Elliot, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has repeatedly faced backlash on social media over his statements and actions as a politician.

Elliot sparked outrage on social media in February after distributing perfumes to his constituents during the Surulere I by-election.

In 2020, the thespian also faced criticism for supporting social media regulation, despite previously denying any involvement in pushing for it.

In an interview with Nollywood on Radio, Branch commended Demond Elliot’s performance as a politician, insisting he deserves recognition for his efforts.

According to Femi, Elliot’s efforts and good deeds are probably overshadowed by his political superiors, as credit for his work often goes to those above him.

He said, “I want to praise Desmond Elliot because he has been the actor who has been consistent with politics.

“I think the problem Desmond has had over the time is probably poor PR because I know a lot of things that he is doing in the constituency.

“There is also the possibility that his case is the case of being under a boss on the political ladder. So when you do something, they don’t give you credit for it. Rather, they give it to the boss. I would tell you that Desmond is doing very well.”

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), informed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that it was too late for him to acquire the integrity and character he had been born without.
During his eight years as Vice President, he claimed that President Olusegun Obasanjo knew him better than anyone else.
Wike said this through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, according to reports.

In response to a statement from the Atiku Media Office, Olayinka said that the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) committee that chose its vice presidential candidate for the 2023 election was rejected because of character.
Obasanjo attested to this in his book My Watch, and Wike’s media aide claimed that Atiku is one Nigerian who is never present among the group of individuals of integrity and character.

Wike’s lackluster character and integrity rating was one of the reasons he initially turned down Atiku’s offer to be his running partner, according to Olayinka, before he was persuaded. This was demonstrated by Atiku, who told everyone that the committee would be bidding on him but still rejected the choice made by the committee the party established to choose his running partner.

“Now that his falsehoods about choosing his running partner based on the committee report that ranked Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the former governor of Delta State, as the top candidate were exposed, he is preaching about honesty and character, which he lacks.

The fact that Atiku is discussing character is ironic given that his boss called him a “blatant and shameless liar.”

“For the record, Obasanjo stated in his book, My Watch, that “what I did not know, which came out glaringly later, was his parental background, which was somewhat shadowy, his propensity to corruption, his tendency to disloyalty, his inability to say and stick to the truth all the time, a propensity for poor judgment, his belief and reliance on marabouts, his lack of transparency, his trust in money to buy his way out on all issues, and his readiness to sacrifice morality, integrity, propriety, truth, and national interest for self and selfish purpose.”

As of right now, Atiku hasn’t refuted his boss’s remarks about him.

Wike does not pretend or conceal his positions on subjects, in contrast to Atiku. When he tweets about important topics, he doesn’t always quickly remove it. He didn’t lie about where he would stand in the 2023 election, and he won’t lie about where he will stand in 2027.

“As he gets older, Atiku should start being trustworthy and truthful because being president shouldn’t be about desperate measures.”

According to Wike’s media aide, Atiku is one Nigerian who is never present among the group of honorable and moral guys. Obasanjo confirmed this in his book My Watch.

According to Olayinka, Wike first turned down Atiku’s invitation to be his running partner because of his unimpressive character and integrity score before he was persuaded. Atiku demonstrated this when he disapproved of the committee the party established to choose his running mate, despite informing everyone that the committee would be bidding on him.

He is now preaching about character and integrity, which he lacks, after his claims that he chose his running partner based on the committee report that ranked Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the former governor of Delta State, as the top candidate were exposed.

It’s funny that the person discussing character is the same Atiku who his boss called a “blatant and shameless liar.”

I’m Going After Ezekwesili – Senator Nwaebonyi

Former Minister Obiageli Ezekwesili will be reported to the Igbo traditional leadership by Senate Deputy Chief Whip Onyekachi Nwaebonyi.
The Senate Committee on Ethics, which was established to consider the sexual harassment claim made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, reportedly saw a confrontation between Senator Onyekachi and former Education Minister Ezekwesili.

Onyekachi claimed in an interview with AIT on Monday that Ezekwesili had called him a thug. According to the senator from Ebonyi North, he has supported women’s rights and empowerment because he respects them.

“As a person, I can’t talk to my wife like that in public,” he stated. I can’t have that conversation with my driver in public. I will never be able to speak to a woman in that manner again. Never in my life have I done it. Women are respected by me. I am among those who have been advocating for women’s rights and benefits.

As a lawyer, I have won numerous cases for women who were not allowed to inherit their father’s assets because their father did not have any male children. I’ve won a lot of pro bono cases. There are facts. You will see these if you visit Ebonyi State. I am one of the South East leaders involved in a program that builds homes for widows and sponsors their children’s education. I’ve got more than 300 of them. All of these are meant to convey my love, respect, and esteem for women.

However, for a woman to publicly order me to stop talking and label me a hooligan, a red-cap chief in Igbo land who has left their imprint, made a contribution, and run for office, is unacceptable. Someone who has never been elected to a ward councilor has came to my office, told me to stop talking, and called me a hooligan, despite the fact that I have a vote of more than 500 people to be in the Senate. This is not acceptable. And because it never happened, I’m going to bring that up with the traditional Igbo leadership.

Dele Momodu to Tinubu: ‘We’re Facing Worse Than Dictatorship, Save Democracy

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman and veteran Nigerian journalist Dele Momodu has claimed that the country is currently experiencing a worse situation than the dictatorship that President Bola Tinubu oversaw.
Momodu reportedly said this while criticizing Tinubu for imposing a state of emergency in Rivers State, calling it anti-democratic.

In light of the political crisis in the oil-rich state, Tinubu suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months on March 18, 2025. This action sparked criticism from a number of political elites.

During an appearance on The Morning Brief on Channels Television, Dele Momodu begged President Tinubu to spare Nigerian democracy.

Some individuals are lying to Tinubu, Momodu said, and he should be careful.

It is quite unfortunate, in my opinion,” he remarked. President Tinubu and I have a very close relationship. We were in exile together, and he bravely battled for our democracy, even if I haven’t been in the same party as him and all that. As a result, many of us who were co-comrades at the time feel truly ashamed that we have a leader who supports democracy in government, but what we are seeing is worse than a dictatorship.

“I beg you, President Bola Tinubu, to preserve Nigerian democracy.” He will hear this from everyone who cares for him. Although I haven’t asked him for anything, we adore him for his contributions to the back of the room, which is what’s wasting away.

“I’m publicly stating to millions of Nigerians that President Tinubu should not tolerate deception; people are misleading him.

“Just do his job,” he said. The only way to ensure a second chance is to perform your job well. No one needs to be intimidated by you.

“Odumeje Criticizes Nigerians for Allowing Tinubu to Worsen Economic Hardship”

0

Controversial Nigerian prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanemere, also called Odumeje, has called President Bola Tinubu’s administration the “worst” in the country’s history.
At the church auditorium on Friday, the clergyman spoke to his congregation and accused Nigerians of being complacent in spite of the hardship caused by Tinubu’s economic policies.

He bemoaned the fact that Tinubu’s friends and family are benefiting from the wealth intended for Nigerians.

The clergyman wailed that Tinubu had nothing to offer Nigerians and promised that, with God’s blessing, he would run for president in 2027.

“When the government has nothing to offer this country, they are boasting,” Odumeje said. The worst government Nigeria has ever had is the one led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“I’m disappointed in all of us Nigerians for letting this individual cause us pain and worsening our financial situation. The money that belongs to everyone is being enjoyed by him and his family, while we remain silent on social media.

Despite being a fellow human being, Tinubu has nothing to offer. One life is all we have. Because of this, I promise to use my power and come out for the 2027 presidential election. When I finish seeking God’s will and run for president, no one will be able to fill the position.

SDP Chairman: Tinubu’s Team Doesn’t Comprehend Nigeria’s Real Issues

Shehu Gabam, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has expressed disapproval of President Bola Tinubu’s management style, claiming that the administration is having trouble because it lacks a capable and cohesive workforce.
In an interview with Vanguard, Gabam claimed that leadership is a team effort and that the government’s inability to have a competent staff is impeding its capacity to deal with the nation’s urgent problems.
Instead of depending only on one person’s wisdom, Gabam believes that government should be founded on the knowledge and experience of the entire group.

The president doesn’t have a team. Individualism has no place in government. It has nothing to do with monopolizing wisdom and information. The division of labor in governance is a result of this.
“The president needs a team that is aware of Nigeria’s unique characteristics. We are going in the right direction and in the wrong direction, and there is history and an archive,” Gabam said.

He emphasized that Tinubu’s cabinet would be better able to address the suffering of regular Nigerians if it were completely aware of the situation on the ground.

Citing a widely shared event involving a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Gabam criticized the government for failing to recognize the hardships of its people.

“You can imagine the youth corps member whose case turned into controversy if the cabinet is up to date with Nigerian reality and what Nigerians are facing,” he remarked. On the television, she was crying.

It went viral: “She can’t afford to buy a crate of eggs.” Someone was threatening her. Is that a democracy? Is that right to free speech protected by our constitution? Is she in danger from our organization, NYSC, and the National Youth Service Corps? Are they aware of her struggles?

Shehu Gabam Gabam also emphasized the terrible condition of Nigeria’s healthcare system, complaining that many people cannot afford medical care, in his statement, “Millions of People Are Dying in Silence.”

Millions of people are passing away without a word. Visit the medical facilities. Please take a moment to visit the hospitals. People are unable to pay their bills. They are passing away due to illnesses. Nobody is paying any attention.

“If you take someone who needs care to the hospital, the procedure for admitting him will cause him to pass away before being admitted to the hospital,” Gabam said.

He pointed out that these problems are signs of a more serious governance breakdown that could be avoided if the president had the right personnel in place to counsel him and carry out policies.

Akpabio Names Ganduje, Barau, Lado as Tinubu’s Strategic Men in Kano for 2027

In the general elections of 2027, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has voiced hope that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will be able to retake Kano State.
Akpabio reportedly said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would win if well-known party leaders led the effort, including Senator Basheer Lado, Senator Barau Jibrin, the Deputy Senate President, and Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the APC.
Akpabio highlighted the APC’s strong position for the next elections in a statement released on Thursday, stating, “We are confident that with Senator Barau, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and your strategic self, Kano is already in the kitty of APC, ahead of 2027.”
Additionally, Akpabio addressed recent accusations that Senator Lado, while serving as President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Senate matters, leaked confidential information between the Senate and the government.

He vehemently refuted these claims, calling Lado’s performance “excellent.”

We have not had any leaks of confidential communications between the Senate and the Presidency since Senator Lado took over as Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on National Assembly (Senate Matters),” Akpabio said.

“We haven’t experienced any leaks at all. That is referred to as the right to know in governance. National security is obviously harmed when government business is conducted through information leaks on social media and newspaper pages.

Akpabio continued by expressing gratitude to Lado for enabling seamless communication between the legislative and executive branches, further praising his role in strengthening the unity between the two houses of government.

Akpabio continued, “Your overall performance in office over the past eight months is unprecedented and is strengthening and rewarding the synergy between the legislature and executive for the benefit of all.”

In his reply, Senator Lado stated

acknowledgment of Akpabio’s leadership and the vital role the Senate President plays in carrying out the President’s agenda.

The House of Representatives’ recent decision to set age restrictions for Nigerian president and governor positions has been sharply criticized by the PDP, the Social Democratic Party, and the Coalition of United Political Parties.
People above 60 should not be allowed to run for the nation’s governorship or presidency, according to the measure, which passed its second reading on Thursday. Because they are all older than 60, leaders like President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, will not be eligible to run for president in 2027 if the measure is adopted and signed into law.
The PDP attacked the bill as a misaligned priority, claiming that MPs were ignoring more important issues in favor of pointless pursuits. Nigeria’s primary governance issues—corruption, incapacity, and a lack of patriotism—are not age-related, the party stressed.
The MPs were criticized by Timothy Osadolor, the deputy national youth leader for the PDP, who referred to them as “the most irresponsible in Nigeria History.”

Speaking, he maintained that the corruption and ineptitude afflicting the nation are the real problems, not aging.

“Our current issue is not one of age or birthdate,” he said. We are dealing with a lack of capacity and incompetence. The issue we are facing is corruption.

In addition, Osadolor mentioned additional nations with effective leaders over 60, like Singapore and India.

He went on to say, “Age is not a factor,” stressing that increasing age offers wisdom and shouldn’t be a hindrance to leadership. He also attacked the MPs for ignoring the true problems affecting Nigeria in favor of concentrating on trivial matters.

The idea that age determines leadership quality was also denied by Mark Adebayo, the National Publicity Secretary for the CUPP.

He emphasized that Nigeria’s governance is plagued by corruption, ineptitude, and a lack of patriotism.

He cited Singapore’s former leader, Lee Kuan Yew, and U.S. President Joe Biden, who is in his late 70s, to emphasize that leadership skills are not limited by age.

“It’s about personality, competence, education, exposure, and patriotism,” Adebayo stated, contending that a leader’s efficacy is determined by these attributes rather than age.

While acknowledging that age might have an impact on governance, SDP National Publicity Secretary Rufus Aiyenigba emphasized that experience, values, and competence are all important factors in leadership.

In order to assess presidential candidates’ emotional and intellectual prowess, he suggested requiring them to participate in live debates.

“The quality a person is bringing is what matters,” Aiyenigba said, implying that public discussions will enable voters to evaluate candidates’ qualifications and vision.

In her closing remarks, Aiyenigba emphasized the importance of a well-rounded leadership style that incorporates both youthful vigor and expertise.

He maintained that rather than merely needing people who fit predetermined age limits, the position of governance requires people who have been tried and tested.

Parts of the Onitsha Main Market in Anambra State, Nigeria, have been destroyed by a fire outbreak.

According to reports, the fire began at one of the buildings at around 6:20 am and has already spread to an adjacent structure.

As of the time of this report, the cause of the fire has not been determined.

Nonetheless, locals, onlookers, and firefighters were observed on the ground attempting to recover some items and property from the structure.

In a brief statement on Friday, Chukwudi Chiketa, the head of the Anambra State Fire Service’s Media and Publicity Unit, verified the occurrence.

As firemen attempt to put out the fire, Chiketa asked locals and the general public to maintain their composure.
