Senate Fires Back at Tunde Bakare Over Comments on National Assembly

0

Pastor Tunde Bakare, the founder of Citadel Global Community Church, has received a warning from the Senate for his remarks regarding the 10th National Assembly.

The current National Assembly, according to Bakare, is a “rubber stamp.”

The Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs Chairman, Yemi Adaramodu, responded to the remarks by saying, “Pastor Bakare, a cleric and political figure in his own right, has previously contributed to national discourse in ways that have stimulated reflection and debate.”

Tunde Bakare’s recent remarks are now harshly critical, contemptuous, and devoid of supporting proof.

As a past presidential and vice presidential candidate, we believe that Pastor Bakare’s criticism of the national Assembly is biased and politically motivated, especially in light of his election aspirations.

When evaluating the perspective through which his remarks are delivered, it is impossible to ignore his status as a well-known political person, even though he is still a revered priest.

The context of his remarks is influenced by his role as a political leader; they are not merely expressions of his personal opinions but also have important political ramifications.

Pastor Bakare’s public remarks should demonstrate his grasp of constitutional limits as a lawyer, cleric, and politician.

Respecting judicial independence and the rule of law is a top priority for the National Assembly.

shall therefore abstain from making remarks or participating in debates and matters that are already before the appropriate court in order to preserve judicial integrity.

Although some may see friction between the executives and the assembly, the national assembly highlights that true supervision entails more than just tension.

The real test of institutional maturity is found in results-driven procedures and principled engagements rather than performative animosity.

In fact, there are other documented cases in which the National Assembly has actively differed with the Executive, such as over particular clauses in the presidential proclamation regarding the state of emergency in Rivers State, to which Pastor Bakare referred.

“These instances demonstrate our dedication to constitutionalism and our loyalty to the Nigerian people, not only to appear good.

The government has never presented any unconstitutional program to the 10th National Assembly, unlike the infamous but unthinkable Third Term agenda, whose rejection the pastor used as a yardstick for performance.

“It is not only unjust but also detrimental to our collective democratic journey to disparage the entire institution on the basis of individual grievances, ideological disagreements, or as staging ahead of potential future political alignments.”

It’s crucial to remember that Pastor Bakare may have previously pointed out some National Assembly sessions with harsh criticism, some of which he now extols.

In keeping with its constitutional obligations, the Senate is hopeful that Pastor Bakare would eventually recognize the 10th National Assembly’s efforts to serve the Nigerian people.

We think that a careful assessment of our performance, taking into account the difficulties of the present, would demonstrate our dedication to the interests of the country.

“The Senate is willing to engage in positive dialogue with all Nigerians, including Pastor Bakare.

We are adamant that constructive discourse, not polarizing language, is necessary to promote national growth and good government.

“We also urge public leaders, especially those who hold a lot of sway in the civic and religious arenas, to temper their criticisms with truthfulness and a sense of duty to the country. Even though our democracy is not flawless, it survives on constructive criticism that leads to improvement rather than divisive remarks that sow discontent.

2027 Election: Adebayo Cautions Atiku, El-Rufai Against Exploiting SDP for Personal Battles with Tinubu

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai, and other opposition leaders have been informed by Prince Adewole Adebayo, the 2023 Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, that they are not permitted to use the party to fight President Bola Tinubu personally in the run-up to the general elections in 2027.

Adebayo informed them that SDP is not a getaway vehicle for a robbery or plot on Monday night at his wife Queen Lillian Adebayo’s 50th birthday celebration in Abuj.

But he insisted that he was still a contender for the presidency in 2027.

El-Rufai, who recently defected from the APC to the SDP, and Atiku, the PDP’s 2023 presidential contender, were said to be leading the coalition.

Atiku had declared the formation of an opposition coalition, stating that its goal is to overthrow Tinubu by 2027.

“My party is aware that I’m a candidate for the 2027 election, of course. We are paying attention to the coalition. We don’t want to be used as a getaway vehicle for an unplanned robbery or conspiracy. That isn’t accessible,” Adebayo stated.

“The SDP is available if the coalition is for the Nigerian people. However, if it is merely a crime hot spot for disgruntled Tinubu supporters, then ought to return to him and settle their disputes there. He then on, “Don’t come to SDP to borrow us for a fight we aren’t involved in.”

Ayekooto Akindele, a leader of the All Progressives Congress, has stated that Atiku and El-Rufai will lose to Tinubu in 2027 even if they join up with terrorists like Abubakar Shekau and Bello Turji.

When it rotates back to the North in the near future, Akindele stated that Atiku and El-Rufai should never be permitted near power.

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed sorrow over Pope Francis’ passing.
Jonathan reportedly characterized the late pope of the Catholic Church and diocese of Rome as a peacemaker.
Jonathan noted in his Tuesday condolence tribute that Pope Francis, who will be buried on Saturday, dedicated his life to religion and service.

“My sincere sympathies are extended to the Nigerian Catholic Church and the global Christian community on the loss of His Holiness Pope Francis, the leader of the Catholic Church.

Pope Francis was a religious figure who had an influence on many aspects of human life outside of the pulpit. He was a global champion for equality, justice, and peace. A day after delivering his Easter sermon, Pope Francis passed away, demonstrating his unwavering devotion to both service and faith. Despite his difficult times, he never wavered from his faith or his mission to spread love, justice, and peace throughout the world.

“May we all be inspired by his life of faith, devotion, and service to God as we consider the void left by his departure,” he said.

Maxwell Zubu, an inspector with the Rivers State Police Command, is said to have shot himself on Tuesday in Port Harcourt’s Eagle Island neighborhood.
According to reports, Zubu, who was working as a security detail for a previous chairman of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, committed himself for unknown reasons.

In an interview with Punch, Iringe-Koko promised that a comprehensive inquiry was being conducted to identify the immediate and underlying causes of Zubu’s death.

Victor Osimhen Should Join Manchester United — Louis Saha

The Red Devils’ team would benefit greatly from Victor Osimhen’s arrival.
United has had a dismal season in spite of their aspirations and large summer investment in key players.
Forwards Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee are part of their offensive squad, but they have had trouble scoring goals on a regular basis.

United’s current dismal 14th-place position in the league rankings is the result, and this has only increased the strain on both the players and the administration.

Along with their league difficulties, the Red Devils haven’t shown much improvement this season in the Carabao Cup or the Emirates FA Cup.

Saha highlighted his conviction that Victor Osimhen would be the ideal addition to the team if he were to join this summer, acknowledging the necessity for a significant striker to reenergize the attack.

In a Mega Dice interview, Saha declared, “I am a huge fan of Victor Osimhen.” Both the character and the quality necessary to achieve at the greatest level are present in him. He won the league title in Italy, had tremendous success in France, and has played exceptionally well in Turkey, despite the fact that it was probably not a transfer he had planned to make.

In just 34 appearances in all competitions this season, Osimhen has scored an incredible 29 goals and given five assists, further demonstrating his skill.

According to Saha, “He has scored goals at every level of competition, has priceless Champions League experience, and has the personality and charisma that could significantly help United’s current players.” In my opinion, he would be a game-changer for the team and greatly improve our offensive skills.

Tinubu, Fubara Reportedly Hold Secret Meeting

0

Conflicts in the oil-rich nation of Nigeria After weeks of political unrest and demonstrations, Rivers State might be coming to an end as President Bola Tinubu and Governor Siminalayi Fubara engaged in tactful diplomacy that could change the region’s leadership.
Two of President Tinubu’s advisers told The Africa Report that the president had a secret meeting last week with Governor Fubara, who was suspended on March 18, 2025.
According to reports, Governor Fubara, who has been keen to return to power since the president proclaimed a state of emergency in Rivers State, organized the meeting, which was held in London soon after Tinubu returned from Paris.

“It’s true. Last week, the president and Governor Fubara met in private. Fubara has pledged to make some concessions. His ban would likely be removed before the six-month limit, according to ongoing negotiations, a presidential adviser told The Africa Report, speaking on condition of anonymity.

In an attempt to curry favor with the president, Fubara is also allegedly ready to joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which might improve the APC’s chances in Rivers State. “The president’s chances of winning Rivers State are significantly higher if Fubara joins the APC,” the aide said.

However, Nyesom Wike, Fubara’s estranged political godfather and the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, was reportedly not present for the meeting because he feels uneasy about the behind-the-scenes conversations. To address the state’s ongoing crisis, however, Tinubu is anticipated to arrange a meeting between lawmakers from Rivers State, Fubara, and Wike.

On March 18, President Tinubu suspended Fubara in response to the burst of two oil pipelines, which sparked the political unrest in Rivers State. Security sources attributed the explosion to a conflict between 27 Wike-aligned state politicians and Fubara. Under the influence of Wike, these parliamentarians attempted to remove the governor from office on grounds of purported constitutional violations, including charges pertaining to the bombing of the state parliament building.

In order to stop more instability, President Tinubu’s administration chose to impose a state of emergency in Rivers State, since oil money accounts for almost 60% of Nigeria’s government income and 90% of its foreign exchange. Ibok-Ete Ibas, the former head of the navy, was given full governorship authority when Tinubu designated him as Rivers State’s only administrator.

The media, the opposition, organized labor, and the Nigerian Bar Association were among those who criticized the proclamation. Before the 2027 election, prominent opposition leader and former vice president Atiku Abubakar referred to the action as a “power grab.” Despite having previously denounced a similar move by President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2005, Tinubu defended his decision, claiming that he had the constitutional authority to proclaim a state of emergency. The Nigerian parliament later approved the proclamation.
