TRUMP ARRIVES UK, FIRES SHOT AT MAYOR OF LONDON

US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have arrived in the UK for a three-day state visit.

Air Force One landed at Stansted Airport at around 09:00 BST (04:00 ET).

Mr Trump will meet members of the Royal Family, and is expected to discuss climate change and Chinese technology firm Huawei during talks with outgoing Prime Minister Theresa May.

Minutes before touching down, Mr Trump criticised Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, with whom he has clashed in the past.

He tweeted that Mr Khan – who had earlier said the UK should “not roll out the red carpet” for Mr Trump – was a “stone cold loser”, but the president added he was looking forward to his visit.

Protests are planned in several UK cities during the visit, including London, Manchester, Belfast, and Birmingham.

Mr Trump was greeted by US Ambassador to the UK Woody Johnson and Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt.

Tory leadership candidate Mr Hunt, who has spoken about the importance of the UK’s relationship with the US, said Mr Trump mentioned to him “some of his very strong views about the Mayor of London” which he had also tweeted.

Mr Trump’s tweet accused Mr Khan of doing a “terrible job” as mayor, adding: “[He] has been foolishly “nasty” to the visiting president of the United States, by far the most important ally of the United Kingdom. He is a stone cold loser who should focus on crime in London, not me.”

A spokesman for Mr Khan said “childish insults” should be beneath the US president, adding: “Sadiq is representing the progressive values of London and our country, warning that Donald Trump is the most egregious example of a growing far-right threat around the globe.”

Although Mr Trump has spoken of his admiration for Mrs May, there is expected to be differences of opinion during their talks, which begin on Tuesday.

The Niger State Police Command has arrested one Nasiru Musa, 30, of Salka village in the Magama Local Government Area of the state for allegedly strangling his seven months old daughter.

Musa was apprehended by police operatives attached to the Nasko Division following a tip-off.

It was learnt that the suspect on May 20, 2019, took his deceased child to an uncompleted building, where he allegedly strangled the infant while her mother was asleep.

Northern City News gathered on Sunday that the crime was exposed when the mother of the child woke from her slumber and could not find her child and raised the alarm, prompting neighbours to report the matter to the police after an earlier search yielded no result.

Police investigation led to Musa’s arrest. It was learnt that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation.

It was gathered that the suspect, who impregnated the mother of his late daughter out of wedlock, was preparing for their wedding before the incident.

In an interview with our correspondent, the suspect said “I gave birth to my daughter out of wedlock and we (the mother and him) are preparing for our wedding before this happened. I cannot explain why I took her life; people will not believe me; it is like somebody hypnotised me I find it very difficult to explain.

“How am I going to explain to my fiancé what transpired? I know that is the end of (preparations for) the marriage; she will never forgive me and my friends will desert me.”

Asked if he had plans to use the deceased for rituals, Musa said, “God forbid. Magama people don’t use their children for rituals and that is why I cannot explain how I killed my own daughter.”

The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries on Monday slammed an indefinite suspension on the ‘Pastor’ of its branch in Life Camp area of Abuja, David Onyekachukwu, over an indecent relationship with a 16-year-old girl.

The church, however, said Onyekachukwu is “not an ordained Pastor” and has been arrested by the police.

The MFM premised the indefinite suspension on its investigation which established that the ‘Pastor’ raped the girl and consequently resulted in pregnancy.

The suspect was arrested by operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons.
Onyekachuku, 48, who hails from Nsukka in Enugu State, had met the victim, a Junior Secondary School 2 pupil in the Karmo area sometime in 2018 and started making love advances to her.

NAPTIP had in a statement on Sunday by the Head of its Press and Public Relations, Stella Nezan, said the pastor, after his arrest and during interrogation, confessed to have sexually abused the girl two times and blamed the act on the “work of the devil.”A statement by the spokesperson of MFM, Collins Edomaruse, said the indefinite suspension was “in line with the rules and regulations of MFM which forbid such acts and frown at them.”The statement quoted the Regional Overseer of MFM in Gwarimpa Region,  Pastor Niyi Babalola as confirming the suspension.

Babalola said, “He (Onyekachukwu) is not an ordained pastor in Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries. He is just a member/worker in that Life Camp branch and he has been suspended from the branch immediately.

“The church can not stop the law from taking its course as doing so will amount to condoning evil and being an accessory after the fact. After investigation, we confirm that the raping and impregnating of the girl is true and the matter is currently being handled by the Police.

Controversial actress Tonto Dikeh has revealed how drug abuse negatively affected her life.

In a recent interview on BBC Pidgin, the actress revealed that she had once battled with hard drugs and that it brought about some setbacks in her life.

She also said she wants to use her foundation to help in the rehabilitation of drug addicts so that they can live a drug-free life.

“I recently went into drug rehabilitation because it’s something that has set me back a lot in life and I’ve not really talked about it in public.

“So, given the fact that I am who I am today and I’m clean, I want to take the ‘Say No To Drugs’ back to the streets through the Tonto Dike Foundation,” she said.

Age falsification: Accuser of Ag. CJN to pay N10M

A certain Mr Tochi Michael who alleged that the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Mohammed, falsified his age, will have to pay N10million in the next three weeks.

This is according to the injunctions of a Federal High Court which sat in Jabi area of Abuja.

The plaintiff, Mr Tochi Michael alleged that the acting CJN, Justice Tanko Mohammed reduced his age by three years.

Mr Michael alleged that the acting CJN was born on December 31, 1950, and has instead been using December 31, 1953, as his date of birth.

However, the court dismissed the suit alleging that the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) falsified his age.

Justice Danlami Senchi while dismissing the suit on Friday said the plaintiff does not have a locus standi to file such a suit as he has not shown how the allegations of falsification of age will cause him any personal injury over and above the general public of Nigerians.

The court also held that the plaintiff did not disclose how he came about the fact that the acting CJN falsified his age as there is no document or evidence before the court to prove that the acting CJN falsified his age.

The trial judge Justice Danlami Senchi said the suit in its entity was meant to scandalize, destroy and malign the acting CJN.

Besides dismissing the suit and awarding a cost of N10million against the plaintiff which must be paid within the next three weeks, the trial judge, Justice Danlami Senchi, also ordered that the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court begin disciplinary actions against the plaintiff’s counsel, Melkizadeck Zaro for unprofessional conduct.

Justice Senchi said such act is capable of bringing the judiciary to disrepute and cannot be allowed to go unpunished.

A municipal building in Virginia Beach, Va., was turned into a scene of carnage on Friday afternoon after a longtime public utilities employee began firing indiscriminately at his co-workers with a handgun, the authorities said, killing a dozen people and injuring several others before dying after an extended shootout with the police.

It had been nearing closing time in an office offering some of the most mundane functions of city government, such as paying water bills and applying for building permits, when the employee began stalking through several floors firing at his colleagues, the authorities said.

The loud bursts of gunfire sent workers scrambling and barricading their office doors.

Zand Bakhtiari, 28, who works on the first floor of the city building where the shooting happened, looked out his window about 4 p.m. and saw people screaming and running. “I thought they were running to the scene of a bad car accident,” he said in a telephone interview late Friday.

At that point, he had not heard any gunfire. But right after that, his boss, who had just left, called in an order to shelter in place: There was an active shooter. Mr. Bakhtiari and others in his office shut the door and got down.

He then heard 50 to 60 gunshots. “It was a lot of shots,” he said. Five or 10 minutes later, a police SWAT team came and led them out.

The identities of the victims were not immediately released nor was the motive of the attack. One of those injured was a police officer, who was saved by his bulletproof vest, said Chief James A. Cervera of the Virginia Beach Police Department, who said at an evening news conference that the scene could “best be described as a war zone.”

Bodies were found on all three floors of the building, the chief said. One of the deceased was discovered outside in a car.

He called the shooting a “devastating incident” that “none of us want to be here talking about,” adding that it was “going to change the lives of a number of families in our city.”

Chief Cervera said the gunman, whom he declined to name, was carrying a .45-caliber handgun, with several extended magazines. He had a suppressor on the weapon to muffle the sound, the chief said. The gunman was wounded after an exchange of fire with the police, who later issued first aid on him. But he succumbed to his injuries.

In a mixture of English and Swahili he said:

Quote Message: If you continue to disrespect my wife I will kick you out of my ministry, I don’t care who you are!

Quote Message: I swear I will excommunicate you from this church… This time I will show you my power. If you don’t respect her, leave my church and go start your own. You are stupid and rubbish!”

It is not clear how his wife was disrespected.

This is not the first time Pastor Ng’ang’a has caused controversy.

In March, he was charged for allegedly threatening a journalist who had reported on the lack of transparency in the way that pastors deal with money.

He has not commented on the charges.

Sudan has withdrawn the work permits for members of staff working for Qatari broadcaster Al Jazeera and it has shut down its Khartoum office, the station said.

No reason was given for the decision, Al Jazeera added.

The station has regularly broadcast footage of demonstrations in Sudan.

The closure comes after the head of Sudan’s Transitional Military Council (TMC), Abdelfattah al-Burhan, traveled to Saudi Arabia on Thursday for a summit.

In 2017, Egypt, the UAE and Saudi Arabia broke off diplomatic ties with Qatar, accusing it of terrorism, which it denies.

Sudan has been run by the TMC since long-time President Omar al-Bashir was toppled last month, but it has struggled to return the country to normality.

Protesters, emboldened by Mr Bashir’s downfall, have continued to stage a huge sit-in outside military headquarters in the capital, demanding full civilian government.

On Thursday, a spokesman for the military council said in a televised statement that the protest encampment represented “a danger to the revolution”.

A group of teenagers has built an aeroplane in South Africa.

The 20 teenagers, from various backgrounds and across South Africa, plan to travel in their four-seater aircraft from Cape Town to Cairo in June.

They plan to cover over 10,000 km (6,213 miles) flying through Namibia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia and Eritrea before they reach Egypt.

The operation is part of a programme called U-Dream Global, an aviation outreach initiative that aims to inspire young South Africans.

Agnes Seemela, one of the teenagers building and flying the aircraft, spoke to the BBC’s Newsday about the experience. She was involved in building the wings of the plane and the horizontal and vertical stabilizer.

“I’m like a kid in a candy store. The plane takes off on the 15th June in Cape Town.”

Like most teenagers, Agnes had no previous experience in aviation.

“I learnt it all during this amazing journey,” she told Newsday.
