Nigerian workers have received assurances from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that their efforts will not go unappreciated.
According to reports, PDP praised Nigerian workers for their perseverance in the face of economic hardship brought on the All Progressives Congress (APC) policies in a Workers Day message posted on its đť•Ź feed by party spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba.
As issues facing employees at work, PDP emphasized soaring inflation, growing living expenses, dwindling purchasing power, and unchecked insecurity.

“We proudly salute the resilience, dedication, and indomitable spirit of Nigerian workers, the heartbeat of our nation’s progress,” it said on Workers’ Day 2025.

Abuja Lawyers Protest, Insist on Fubara’s Return Amid Emergency Rule Tensions

In Abuja, a group of attorneys representing Lawyers in Defense of Democracy have started a protest, calling for the reinstatement of democratic administration in Rivers State and the recall of Governor Siminalayi Fubara from his suspension.

This comes as the group has urged the US and the rest of the world to put pressure on President Bola Tinubu to reverse his decision to suspend Governor Fubara and the House of Assembly of Rivers State.

The country director of Lawyers in Defence of Democracy, Barr. Uchechukwu Udeh, emphasized that President Tinubu’s proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers State “is unconstitutional and undermines democracy.”

The group encouraged US President Donald Trump to step in and exert pressure on the Nigerian government to reinstate democracy in Rivers State in a letter to the president.

They maintained that Governor Fubara’s and the state assembly’s suspensions are blatant attempts to subvert constitutional order.

Due process was not followed, the organization said, and President Tinubu’s action was obviously hurried.

Additionally, the attorneys denounced the National Assembly’s ratification of the President’s decision as an anomaly in democracy.

The organization therefore called on President Tinubu to change his mind and permit Governor Fubara to carry on serving as the state’s lawfully elected governor.

We are at a crossroads, a grim moment of reckoning where constitutional order is being tested most shamelessly in a period where democracy is supposed to rule supremely and provide benefits to the public.

“By suspending a democratically elected governor, deputy governor, and whole State House of Assembly on the pretext of emergency rule, the President of Nigeria, who vowed to enforce the Constitution, has taken an unprecedented and illegal move.

What kind of emergency? The letter said, “Nigerians and Rivers people did not see or feel any such emergency.”

We maintain that no statute, constitutional clause, or established convention grants the president the authority to unilaterally disband the institutions of a state government that has been elected.

The only time this could have occurred was during the military junta era, but a military dictatorship is not currently in control of us.

“The president ought to have given the different state organs the opportunity to settle the disputes. It is unworthy that Osun State’s local government administration problem, which occurred until recently, did not result in a state of emergency proclamation.

“A constitutional democracy with a presidential system of government now governs the nation.

Since democracy is a learning process and the judiciary has proven its ability to resolve conflicts, the Lawyers in Defence of Democracy argued that President Tinubu shouldn’t have made the judgment. FINISH.

According to reports, the popular Terminus Market in Jos caught fire on Tuesday, resulting in the loss of millions of dollars in products and property.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Governor Mutfwang pledged the traders of his administration’s support in a statement issued on Wednesday.

He highlighted the importance of all inhabitants avoiding actions that jeopardize the state’s peace and unity.

It went as follows: “Fire outbreak in Jos, the Plateau State capital, has destroyed some parts of the popular Jos commercial Terminus market.” I was deeply saddened to learn of the fire outbreak that happened on Tuesday, April 29th, 2025, damaging parts of the Terminus Market in Jos North and causing the loss of millions of dollars in merchandise.

Ezebunwo Ichemati, the ousted Chairman of the Port Harcourt Local Government Area, has refuted rumors that Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara, who was suspended, bowed before his predecessor, former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, to ask for forgiveness.
According to the claims, which were obtained, Fubara and Wike met in Abuja as part of a larger reconciliation attempt to end the ongoing political unrest in Rivers State.
Two All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and a former Southwest governor reportedly facilitated the meeting.

Fubara reportedly knelt during the meeting and begged Wike’s pardon, requesting assistance in restoring him to his position as governor.

However, Ichemati stated in a statement on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, that although Fubara was in a good mood and dedicated to Rivers’ development and peace, he would not do it while kneeling.
Ichemati emphasized that the reports were made up to deceive the public and urged people to ignore the falsehoods.

“One who did not prostrate themselves to plead or lobby for the position of governor cannot also do the same to stay as one,” he stated.

Since no one party bears sole responsibility during a conflict, it is unnecessary for a certain group’s propaganda to beg.

In order for there to be genuine reconciliation, both sides must engage in dialogue, compromise, and not beg.

“Even if you are mumu, don’t believe every lie you are told, even if it makes you feel good or boosts your camp’s pride. Rather, ignore the lies of begging.”

For Rivers State to grow, there must be peace. Despite his apparent humility, Governor Siminalayi Fubara is in a very good mood and is fervently dedicated to the peaceful development of Rivers State.

According to Sadda, President Tinubu cannot be overthrown by an alliance between Atiku and Obi. Atiku and Obi are unknown to Katsina voters, she asserted. The Federal High Court of Abuja’s Justice Inyang Ekwo has mandated that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) free Aisha Achimugu, a socialite and entrepreneur who has been imprisoned, within twenty-four hours.
In addition to issuing the order on Wednesday, the judge mandated that all parties return to court on May 2, 2025, to provide an update on the order’s progress.
The EFCC is presently investigating Achimugu for alleged offenses that include ownership of property suspected of having been obtained illegally, money laundering, corruption, obtaining money through false pretenses, and criminal conspiracy.

She had previously been released on administrative bail by the commission, but the EFCC claimed she had broken the terms of her bail, leading to her being proclaimed wanted.
In relation to the current investigation, Justice Ekwo had ordered Achimugu to surrender to the EFCC on Monday. She was also told that the agency needed to bring her before the court on Wednesday, April 30, to give an update.

The court has now mandated her immediate release within a 24-hour deadline after she appeared and the EFCC detained her.

Appeal Court Rules Against Professor Ogban in Akpabio Election Fraud Case

The conviction and three-year jail sentence of Professor Peter Ogban for manipulating the 2019 Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial election results in favor of Senator Godswill Akpabio have been maintained by the Court of Appeal in Calabar, Cross River State.
The High Court in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, had already declared Ogban guilty of election misconduct. The appeal court upheld this decision in its verdict on Wednesday.
Because of Ogban’s academic reputation and the public’s confidence in him during the election process, the court took a strong stand against his misbehavior and emphasized how severe his acts were.

For the senatorial election, Professor Ogban, a professor of soil physics at the University of Calabar, was return officer. He was charged by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after it was discovered that he had falsified official records to support Godswill Akpabio, who was then the minister of Niger Delta affairs.
For fabricating results to boost Akpabio’s support for his opponent, Christopher Ekpenyong of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ogban was found guilty.

Akpabio has refuted any role in the electoral irregularities.

In Akwa Ibom, Barrister Mike Igini, the former INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, oversaw the investigation and legal action that resulted in Ogban’s conviction.

Because of his efforts, Ogban and Professor Ignatius Uduk, two academics, were prosecuted for their participation in declaring manipulated election results. Now, the Court of Appeal’s decision upholds one of those historic convictions.

Parallel to this, a Uyo State High Court in February condemned Professor Ignatius Uduk of the University of Uyo to three years in prison for perjury and announcing phony results in the 2019 general elections. For the Essien Udim State Constituency vote, Uduk was the returning officer.

Along with the jail term, the court also assessed a 100,000 naira fine.

The case of Uduk marked the second significant conviction for electoral misconduct of a professor from Nigeria. Following several missed court appearances, a warrant for his arrest was issued in November 2020, and he was first arraigned in December 2020.

The trial was beset by numerous delays, including a dramatic moment when Uduk fainted in court during cross-examination, and he entered a not guilty plea to the three counts of the INEC-brought allegation.

At one point during the trial, Uduk accused the presiding judge of being biased and asked him to step aside. We approved that request.

The state’s chief judge transferred the case, but it was later sent back to the original judge for further proceedings.

E-Money, a Lagos socialite and music executive, was purportedly freed from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) custody.
According to reports, E-Money was detained by the EFCC on charges of defacing foreign currencies and misusing the Naira currency.

Commission sources claim that E-Money was arrested Monday evening at his home in Lagos’ Omole neighborhood.

The arrest comes after claims that the socialite violated the Foreign Exchange Act by reportedly participating in the unlawful practice of showering US dollars.

The launching of E-Money was announced by famous bartender Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana ChiefPriest, in an Instagram post on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, Nigerian musician Kingsley Okonkwo, better known by his stage name Kcee, has said that he became financially successful before his younger brother, Emeka Okonkwo, better known by his stage name E-Money.

The musician claims that his millionaire businessman, who was once his manager, is now wealthier than he is.

Kcee revealed this when she recently appeared on the Tea With Tay podcast. He claimed to have been one of the sponsors of E-Money’s nuptials.

According to reports, Tunji-Ojo repeated the need for peace to propel industrialization and economic progress in a statement signed Tuesday night by Magdalene Ajani, the ministry’s permanent secretary, and praised workers for their sacrifice and hard work.
Nigeria’s glory and the respect it enjoys in international society are largely due to the efforts of its workers, he said.

Tunji-Ojo therefore encouraged employees to adopt a culture of creativity and efficiency.
The minister wished workers a joyous occasion and stressed to Nigerians that the current government of President Bola Tinubu is dedicated to the Renewed Hope Agenda he pledged.
